PFW: Could DL McDonald Be Fighting for a Roster Spot?

From: Pro Football Weekly
Word is Niners DL Ray McDonald, one of the team's two third-round picks in the 2007 draft, slipped down the depth chart behind free-agent Walter Curry in the team's most recent OTAs and could find himself in a heated battle with Curry, Joe Cohen, Melvin Oliver, Atiyyah Ellison and ex-Eagle LaJuan Ramsey for the final two spots on the roster. We hear the Niners like the potential of Ramsey, a late bloomer who didn't start playing football until his junior year in high school.

Eagles make a number of roster moves

Following OTA's, the Eagles roster is finally starting to take shape. The Eagles cut nine players and signed one, trimming their roster from 88 players to 80. The one player signed was defensive tackle Kimo von Oelhoffen, who has played 15 years in the NFL, including last season with the Birds. von Oelhoffen is old, but he will be a serviceable part and a veteran presence who will help. Hopefully he doesn't play too much because if the team is forced to use him a lot they likely are in a dire situation.

Here are the nine players cut:

LB Gary Butler

DT Jeremy Clark

CB Tanard Davis

WR Terrell Golden

QB Casey Hansen

DE Xzavie Jackson

DT LaJuan Ramsey

DE A.J. Schable

LB Markell Staffieri

Clark, Davis, Jackson and Ramsey all were either on the roster or the practice squad last season while the rest of the cuts were rookie free agents. Ramsey is the most surprising of the group, but with the re-signing of von Oelhoffen and the drafting of Trevor Laws there is no room for him.

Eagles Defensive Line Analysis

Grading the defensive line and evaluating the players and their progress in JJ's system. The only thing I dont agree with is Ramsey and Reagor being here. I think they are long-shots for making the team in my honest opinion.

Preseason Eagles DT's

Sam Rayburn and Darwin Walker are gone, Montae Reagor and Ian Scott are in, or are they? Reagor has the nod to play in the Steelers preseason game but the question is will he bounce back from the car accident that led him to miss the colts Super Bowl run. Meanwhile I haven't heard much of anything about X bears DT Ian Scott and LaJuan Ramsey is still sidelined with a high ankle sprain. While Mike Patterson and Brodrick Bunkley are listed as the 1st team starters, Jim Johnson is known for depth at the defensive line giving him the ability to rotate the entire front 4. So who is going to make the cut here? Or will JJ have to sacrifice his 4 man rotational style again?
