2009 Draftee Report Card, Part Three: Outfielders and Catchers

The Diamondbacks entered the 2009 draft with 4 extra draft picks in the first round and the 1/2 sandwich round, and came out of the draft with 37 out of 55 picks signed. Kieth Law ranked the D-backs as having the best draft in 2009, and other reviews of the Diamondbacks' draft have been positive as well. With so many quality players signed, this draft certainly has the potential to be best draft the Diamondbacks have had in their short history, and the team had a nice balanc...

Rosenthal, Morosi On Betancourt, Doumit, Jackson

A look at the latest from Ken Rosenthal and Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports...

The Cubs and Giants were interested in reliever Rafael Betancourt before the Rockies offered arbitration to him yesterday. The Phillies were named as another suitor. The writers are not sure whether the Cubs and Giants maintain interest now that Betancourt will cost a draft pick (assuming the Type A free agent turns down the Rockies' offer). The Giants would have to surrender their #24 pick, the C...

After a couple of weeks off, we get to the final part of the 2009 season review, while we look at the Diamondbacks' performance on the base-paths. This doesn't just cover the straight stolen-base, though this is the most immediately obvious component of base-running. The...

Welcome Back Conor Jackson

Despite falling off the radar due to a bad case of valley fever, we haven't swayed in our love for Conor Jackson. The Arizona Diamondbacks first baseman/outfielder, who missed the last five months of what turned out to be a really crappy season for his team, has been tearing it up in the Dominican Republic.Jackson returned to the states Monday night after hitting .425 with two home runs, 16 RBIs and nine stolen bases in 23 games for Leones del Escogido. That's great news since valley f...

When I think of the bizarre circumstances that have befuddled Conor Jackson’s life and baseball career in 2009 this famous Monthy Python clip comes to mind:

What has happened to the man that was once the future face of the franchise? 2008 was Conor Jackson’s finest season. He showed a degree of plate discipline that no [...]

Conor Jackson maybe available

Maybe if this was last off-season this would be an exciting idea, but this year it would be more of a cross your fingers and hope for the best. It would mean bringing in another injury risk player but in the Mets financial situation, these might be the only types of moves the Mets can make and at least age isn't a factor.Conor Jackson was one of the rising stars in the league; a good defender at 1B/LF, solid batting average, decent power and on OPS over .800 but at age 27 y/o instead buil...

Having been out since May, with a combination of valley fever and pneumonia, Conor Jackson will start a rehab assignment on Tuesday with Class-A Visalia. The plan is 7-10 days there, probably DHing for the first couple of games, and after a spell there, he'll move up to Triple-A Reno. The plan i...

Arizona Diamondbacks' 1B Conor Jackson was taken to the hospital during tonight's game verse the Cincinnati Reds. He was pinch-hit for by Chris Burke in the 5th inning and at the time it didn't seem to be an injury. There had been rumors in press row about a stomach illness had been bothering him over the past few days. Jackson went to the hospital after the game because he was still having trouble breathing.
