Chiefs vs. Broncos Pre Game Gab

12 straight losses, a offense that can't get going and a defense that is falling apart. Not the most opportune time to be playing the hottest team in the NFL but that is exactly the task ahead of the Chiefs as they try to get back on track against the Broncos Sunday at Arrowhead.
Quarterback Jay Cutler is off to one of the best starts in the league with 8 touchdowns to go with only 2 interceptions and the Broncos as a team are averaging 38 points per game. The one weakness that has been exposed on the undefeated Broncos is a defense that has trouble getting stops and got bailed out by some bad officiating calls.
Herm Edwards has made the decision this week to go with QB Damon Huard as the starter, Herm stated he needed "someone to protect the football". Safe to say that may spell the end to the Tyler Thigpen experiment barring a injury a??..which is always a possibility with Huard. QB Brodie Croyle looks to be a t least another week away and may come back after the Chiefs bye week on October 19th. Huard has been in this position before it's his bread and butter, it's what he has done and excelled at in this league since year player serving as Dan Marino's backup.
Keys to the game

1. Brandon Flowers and Brandon Carr vs. the Broncos triplets: This one may be a lost cause, while both Flowers and Carr have both played well for being new to the NFL they maybe simply overmatched here. When the Chiefs played the Patriots who have Randy Moss and Wes Welker, Patrick Surtain was healthy and Tom Brady was not. Brandon Marshall has been on a roll since serving his one game suspension and went for 18 catches and 166 yards against a very good Chargers cornerback tandem.
If the Chiefs roll their coverage to double team Marshall rookie receiver Eddie Royal has proven he is also a force to be reckoned with and can burn a defense, Royal did light a pair of Pro Bowl corners up in Oakland to the tune of 9 catches for 146 yards. Broncos QB Jay Cutler is having his breakout season with these two receivers and the Chiefs will be hard pressed to stop them.

2.Keep Larry Johnson rolling: It is very simple with the style of football the Chiefs play if you can run the football and control the clock you can win the game. Last week Johnson had his first 100 yard game of the season and seems to have broken out of his slump. The main objective for the Chiefs and more specifically Chan Gailey against the Broncos is to find more running plays the Chiefs can execute. Last week Johnson did get his yards, but a majority of the successful ones were tosses to the right side. You cannot run the same play consistently two weeks in a row in the NFL and expect it to work coaches study film and defenses adapt. The Chiefs have a winning record when Larry Johnson goes for over a hundred yards , the Broncos one weak link has been their defense. Larry Johnson has not had this favorable of a matchup all season and he needs to capitalize and carry the Chiefs to victory.

3.Protect Damon Huard: The Chiefs morale just simply cannot take another loss especially at home in front of their fans. That is why Damon Huard is back in the lineup he may not be the QB of the future
But he gives the Chiefs the best chance to win and the young players around him the best chance to develop. Huard can be very effective when given time in the pocket to find holes in the defense. One thing Huard cannot do is make plays on the run and scramble around. If he starts to take hit some hits Huard could aggravate one of his numerous injuries and thrust Tyler Thigpen back into the lineup. Denver's defense is soft and if Huard is given time he is a intelligent enough QB to the pick their defense apart.
Injury report:
QB:Brodie Croyle- Shoulder, out
CB: Pat Surtain- Shoulder, out
LB: Donnie Edwards- Ankle, out
KR: B.J. Sams - Hamstring, questionable

Broncos Report
DT: John Shaw- Groin, out
RB: Ryan Torian- Elbow, out
WR: Darrell Jackson- Calf, questionable
DT: Dewayne Robertson- Knee, questionable
Weather report
One could not ask for better game weather kickoff at Arrow head will be 75 degrees and sunny with a six mile per hour southern breeze.

Final Score: Chiefs 28 Broncos 24
I know the Broncos have superior talent and are the hottest team in the NFL and the Chiefs are spiraling
but the Broncos are a young team and may not know how to handle their new found success. The Chiefs are as desperate as it gets and a desperate team can be a scary one. The Chiefs will throw every thing they have at the Broncos on Sunday they have no other choice. Look for the Chiefs to try to throw a lot of blitz packages at Jay Cutler to try and get in his face and rattle him a little bit. If the Chiefs can't slow down the Broncos arial attack the Chiefs will have no hope but if the Broncos over look the Chiefs they could be reminded that on any given Sunday any body can beat anybody

Broncos V. Raiders Preview

As Broncos fans, we've waited long enough for this day. I expect the Broncos to come out of Oakland with a mark in the win column. Final score: 28-13. Let's break down the game from both teams' perspectives.
Offense
Broncos - Jay Cutler has a clean slate so to speak. He preformed well in the preseason

Boss Bailey, Keary Colbert - 2 players with good rookie seasons and nothing since. Niko Koutouvides - career backup and special teams player is going to start at middle linebacker this year? Do we even have to mention Darrell Jackson or Dewayne Robertson?
Broncos Ready For Big Day

I could not be more excited for the Broncos to start camp. It's almost like when you tell a 4 year-old that his/her birthday is in three days. The child knows that the big event is coming, but the balloons, cake, and presents feel so far away. Let's hope that the Broncos balloons (rookies that could float away), cake (Jay Cutler's sweet arm), and presents (new addition free agents) come ready to give fans something to cheer about.
The Broncos organization is getting ready for the big event. They've been cleaning the house over the summer by releasing people such as Todd Sauerbrun, Javon Walker and Travis Henry. They've gotten rid of perceived "junk" that had been in storage such as Mike Bell. They also packed away the "good china" in players such as Ian Gold and Jason Elam. Then they brought in the new goods. Ryan Clady and Eddie Royal are already inserted into the starting lineup. Ryan Torain could play a key roll in the running attack depending on how he performs in camp. Other preparations include signing veteran free agents (Darrell Jakson, Dewayne Robertson, Samie Parker, Michael Pittman, etc.) that could make all the difference this season.
Factor in a healthy QB, motivated RB Selvin Young, and Brandon Marshall waiting to put a huge stamp on the NFL, and you have all the makings of a successful party. I mean season.

AFC West Run Down

San Diego Chargers: A year after making it to the AFC championship the Chargers kept their nucleus together for the most part which is hard to do in today's game. The only departures of note were FB Lorenzo Neal and CB Drayton Florence. They were both replaced with younger more athletic versions of them in CB Antoine Cason out of Arizona and FB Jacob Lester out of LSU. So one should only expect the Chargers to be more successful this season with another year with their new coaching staff. Possibly the most talented team in the NFL. The AFC west crown is merely a formality of playing the schedule for the Chargers. This could be the division clinched the earliest clearly the class of the west.

Season prediction: 12-4

Denver Broncos: Mike Shanahan lately has adopted the Carl Peterson philosophy of acquiring stop gap win now free agents but he has not been as successful as Carl was at that game. His only deviation from the blue print has been his attempt to develop Quarterback Jay Cutler. This season the Broncos have brought in DT Dewayne Robertson former # 6 pick in the 2003 NFL Draft. Also brought in was receiver Darrell Jackson from Seattle who will be 30 before the season is over and Champ's brother boss from the Lions to be their OLB. Also Shanahan acquired two players from the Chiefs. Receiver Sammie " No Hands" Parker and Casey Wiegman. Does signing any of the Chiefs cast aways make sense for any team?

Season Prediction: 7-9

Oakland Raiders: This off season the Raiders may have been the most aggressive team in free agency . Signing big name free agents to big time contracts. Acquiring receiver Javon Walker from the Broncos and speedy CB DeAngelo Hall from the Falcons. Also getting the best running back in the nation in Darren McFadden. It all matters not this team is in shambles from top to bottom. From a head coach in Lane Kiffin with no real authority who was asked by owner Al Davis to sign a resignation paper but refused. And the defensive coordinator Rob Ryan was asked to leave by the head coach only to be brought back by Al Davis. The Raiders have an absurd amount of talent but this situation is not conducive to winning.

Season Prediction: 5-11

Dewayne Robertson traded to Denver

The New York Jets traded defensive lineman Dewayne Robertson to the Denver Broncos for an undisclosed draft pick or picks, ESPN.com's Bill Williamson reported Thursday.
The Jets had agreed to send Robertson to Cincinnati on the first weekend of the NFL trading period for fourth- and fifth-round picks, but because of a knee issue he didn't pass the Bengals' physical.
The Broncos were close to trading for him in mid-March but talks stalled when the team suddenly fired general manager Ted Sundquist on March 12. Sundquist was the point man in the talks with the Jets.
Robertson's contract will have to be restructured and the Broncos have been in on- and off-again talks with his agent, Hadley Engelhard, for several weeks. Robertson is due a $3 million bonus in June and has salary cap number of about $11 million for this season. Thus, Denver would have to redo the deal to make it fiscally worthwhile, especially with the Broncos in a cost-conscious mode this offseason.
Robertson, 26, was the No. 4 overall draft pick in the 2003 draft out of Kentucky. He had 57 tackles for the Jets last season.

Update on Dewayne Robertson

It is true that New York Jets defensive tackle Dewayne Robertson visited the Eagles for a series of medical examinations, but, according to a league source, the visit took place nearly a month ago and it is "a long shot" that he will be dealt to Philadelphia.
Robertson, the fourth overall pick in the 2003 draft, is on the trading block and, like Eagles cornerback Lito Sheppard, is likely to be dealt before or during Saturday's NFL draft. Robertson, 6-foot-1 and 317 pounds, has been a five-year starter for the Jets, but he has not lived up to the expectations of a fourth overall draft pick. He has 141/2 career sacks.
A trade is "a long shot but not dead," the league source said. - Bob Brookover

Eagles may acquire veteran defensive tackle Dewayne Robertson

The Eagles are rumored to acquire another player, and for once its not a receiver. The New York Jets are frantically looking for a team to take defensive tackle Dewayne Robertson off their hands before they have to dole out a 3 million dollar signing bonus, and it appears that the Eagles might be the team that the Jets ending up dealing with. The Eagles would likely have to offer up a few mid-round draft picks, something they have plenty of, but as an article on ProFootballTalk.com speculates, there is still an issue with Robertson's contract. It's not likely that the Birds would want to take on a contract of that size, and Robertson isn't likely to want to re-structure his contract. Other teams that were once interested in Robertson include the Bengals and Broncos.

Robertson, who recently visited with the Eagles, is a five year veteran who put up a career-high 4 sacks last season. He is especially good at stopping the run, something the Eagles were better at last season but are always looking to improve. The price of a few mid-round picks seems reasonable enough for a guy that would add a lot to the Eagles defensive line rotation (a combination of Robertson, Brodrick Bunkley and Mike Patterson would be lethal), we'll just have to see if they feel he will be worth it contractually. Robertson does have some health issues, but he would be a great high risk/high reward pick-up for the Eagles.

The Eagles recently hosted Jets DT Dewayne Robertson

PHILADELPHIA â€" With the NFL Draft around the corner, Eagles coach Andy Reid is still seeking options to continue building his team.

Jets defensive tackle Dewayne Robertson, a No. 4 overall pick in 2003, visited the NovaCare Complex recently to meet with the Eagles and take a physical, according to two league sources.

The Eagles can't comment on Robertson, who is still property of the Jets but became trade bait when New York switched to a 3-4 defensive alignment this off-season and signed Kris Jenkins to play nose tackle.

Robertson, listed by the Jets' Web site as 6-foot-1, 317 pounds, was also in conversations with at least four other teams, said one source, who couldn't confirm if the Eagles had made an offer to the Jets. The Eagles have 11 picks in the draft, which starts next Saturday, and could pick up more if they deal cornerback Lito Sheppard. The Denver Broncos are also reportedly seeking the sixth-year Jet's services.

It's unknown how Robertson would feel about competing for a starting job in Philadelphia. The Eagles already have two young first-round picks at defensive tackle in fourth-year left tackle Mike Patterson and third-year right tackle Brodrick Bunkley. A source also said Robertson's contract would have to be restructured.
Robertson, who signed a seven-year, $54 million rookie contract, is slated to make $6.8 million in 2008, with a $3 million roster bonus due in June and is reportedly costing the Jets $12 million against the cap.

In 2003, Robertson became the first Jets rookie defensive lineman to start every game since Marty Lyons in 1970. He has started 60 regular-season games and three playoff games. The former University of Kentucky standout has 14.5 career sacks and has never made a Pro Bowl.
