Broncos Ready For Big Day

I could not be more excited for the Broncos to start camp. It's almost like when you tell a 4 year-old that his/her birthday is in three days. The child knows that the big event is coming, but the balloons, cake, and presents feel so far away. Let's hope that the Broncos balloons (rookies that could float away), cake (Jay Cutler's sweet arm), and presents (new addition free agents) come ready to give fans something to cheer about. The Broncos organization is getting ready for the big event. They've been cleaning the house over the summer by releasing people such as Todd Sauerbrun, Javon Walker and Travis Henry. They've gotten rid of perceived "junk" that had been in storage such as Mike Bell. They also packed away the "good china" in players such as Ian Gold and Jason Elam. Then they brought in the new goods. Ryan Clady and Eddie Royal are already inserted into the starting lineup. Ryan Torain could play a key roll in the running attack depending on how he performs in camp. Other preparations include signing veteran free agents (Darrell Jakson, Dewayne Robertson, Samie Parker, Michael Pittman, etc.) that could make all the difference this season. Factor in a healthy QB, motivated RB Selvin Young, and Brandon Marshall waiting to put a huge stamp on the NFL, and you have all the makings of a successful party. I mean season.

- Don't call Jay Cutler a gunslinger. He knows where he's throwing the ball unlike Ben Rothlisberger in his rookie year (Rocky Mountain News). - Oldie but goodie, John Lynch, is ready to compete for a starting job on defense (Denver Post). Hmmm, Brett Favre could learn something from him. - Dad thinks that Boss Bailey will play harder now that he's playing alongside brother Champ. Boss agrees with pops (Denver Post). Let's hope that's the case when he goes up against Tony Gonzalez and Antonio Gates. - With Jason Elam and Todd Sauerbrun gone, the Broncos look to a new group of young kickers (Yahoo Sports). There is no doubt that an important field goal will be missed this season, and we will wonder if Elam would have made it. My guess is that he would have, but let's see what the new guys can do. - I like to give the stagehand credit. The guy behind the curtains making everything run smoothly. That's why you should take a look at the bio of long snapper, Mike Leach (Bronco Talk). - According to ESPN, Elvis Dumervil will be one of four players to bust out in 08? (ESPN The Magazine).

Perhaps NFL coaches have not read the 'Complete Guide to Special Teams.' We all know coaches for the most part aren't geniuses, so I will give them the benefit of the doubt and assume that they skimmed the foreword by Frank Beamer but must have skipped the techniques, drills and training.

Someone tell Todd Saurbrun not to open his mouth before any games every again. This week before their game against the Bears, the Broncos kicker was quoted saying "We're not going to kick away from [Devin Hester], we respect him and he's the best but we have guys our our coverage teams that are paid to make big tackles."
