Titans News And Notes

Tennessee Titans offensive tackle David Stewart underwent arthroscopic knee surgery on Thursday and is expected to miss at least two preseason games, according to Jim Wyatt of the Tennessean; Stewart suffered the injury in the team's preseason opener against the St. Louis Rams last Saturday and missed practices earlier this week. The MRI taken revealed a cartilage tear. Daniel Loper is expected to replace Stewart in the lineup for tonight's home game against the Oakland Raiders. Stewart started every game last season; he signed a 6-year, $38.9 million contract extension last June. In other Titans news…

Placekicker Rob Bironas hasn't seen a football since suffering a groin injury the first week of training camp; however, that may soon change as her may start kicking a football next week. Bironas replied when asked how long it might take to get into a groove once he returns,

"That's kind of like asking what our record is going to be like at the end of the season. I'll know exactly when I get back out there. … I wasn't expecting this, coming into camp in good shape. But it's one of those things you have to deal with."

Outside linebacker David Thornton is currently out with a sore shoulder, so it appears that Stephen Tulloch will get the start against the Raiders; according to Titans head coach Jeff Fisher,

"David's a little sore … and the situation right now in Week Two of the preseason is if we have a starter who's ailing at all, it makes sense to play a younger guy. Tully's the next one off the bench and he's had a great camp."

Wide receiver Roydell Williams (ankle), cornerback Nick Harper (concussion), tight end Dwayne Blakley (groin) and linebacker Jorge Cordova (ankle) did not practice Thursday and will not play against the Raiders.

Big Country out for two weeks

One of the Titans' biggest strengths is their young offensive tackle duo of Michael Roos and David Stewart. Both were assured to be in Nashville for the forseeable future as a result of the contract extensions they signed during the offseason.

For the next couple of weeks, the Titans will be missing the presence of one-half of their set of bookend offensive tackles.

Titans Position Analysis: OT

Tackle is without a doubt a position of strength for the Tennessee Titans.

Unlike the Albert Haynesworth contract situation, long term deals were struck with bookend tackles Michael Roos and David Stewart, enabling both players to be Titans for the foreseeable future.

Titans 6-10? Sporting News thinks so

For a team that finished 10-6 last year with a playoff birth, the Titans seem to consistently get the short end of the stick when it comes to prognosticators.

According to Sporting News, the Titans will finish with a lowly 6-10 record in 2008.

Titans agree to terms with G Jake Scott

I like the news that the Titans have agreed to terms with Jake Scott. He's one of the guys I mentioned favorably in my offseason positional review of the guards.

Scott should make a good replacement for Jacob Bell at left guard. It's also good to see the Colts lose another player...

Tennessee Titans in free agency

Like every other team in the league, the Titans have a sizable number of players who will be effected. Those not tagged, resigned or tendered will become free agents, so Mike Reinfeldt, Jeff Fisher and the Titans' staff have some decisions to make.

If I was the one making the decisions, this is how I'd look at it...
