Zorn explains his thinking on FG attempt

Coach Jim Zorn has come under fire for so many things this season, it's sometimes hard to keep track of who's upset with him and about what. During the long delay in the final seconds of the first half in Sunday's 7-6 loss to the Dallas Cowboys, I received a lot of email from fans who hoped Zorn would take a shot into the end zone when play resumed. The Redskins were leading, 3-0, and Zorn, with no timeouts remaining, played it safe after the break, attempting a 39-yard field goal...

Missed kicks leave Suisham with 'awful' feeling

Washington Redskins kicker Shaun Suisham entered Sunday's game against the Dallas Cowboys a perfect 12-for-12 on field-goal attempts this year. But after the Redskins' difficult 7-6 loss, Suisham spent time answering questions about his first two misses -- either of which could have won the game for the Redskins. "I feel awful," Suisham said. "The guys worked so hard today. You got a tight game like that, and you miss a couple field goals, it's very frustrating and ...

Redskins kicker explains first-half miss

Shaun Suisham, who played six games with the Cowboys over the 2005 and 2006 seasons, missed a 39-yard field goal with 21 seconds left in the first half.

His attempt followed a long replay delay as officials overturned the ruling that Redskins quarterback Jason Campbell had stepped out of bounds at Dallas' 25. The reversal moved the ball to the 20. But even though he was five yards closer, Suisham missed left.

Asked if it was tough to kick after the delay, Suisham said: ``It was differe...

Redskins @ Cowboys - Fourth Quarter Thoughts

I'm already hearing from people who want to pin the whole loss on Shaun Suisham, which is a pretty solid capsule for the life of an NFL kicker. Suisham came into the game a perfect 12-12 on the season, and continued his hot streak in the second quarter from 45 yards out. Then he missed from 39 after the end-of-the-half debacle, hit from 31 in the third, and -- the big one, to a lot of people -- missed from 50 in the fourth. And just like that, 12-12 turns into 14-16 -- and, more importan...

Redskins lose by a point

The Dallas Cowboys struggled on offense all day - and were at risk of being shut out for the first time in the history of the storied rivalry. But Tony Romo & Co. came up with a late score to sneak by the Redskins 7-6 Sunday at Cowboys Stadium. Washington kicker Shaun Suisham was perfect on field-goal attempts entering Sunday's game, but his misses in Dallas proved costly. Suisham missed a 50-yard field goal attempt with 7 minutes, 6 seconds remaining in the game. The kick, which sail...

Shaun Suisham keeps the Cowboys in the game

Shaun Suisham entered Sunday having not missed a field goal attempt all year.

He's missed two today, including a 50-yarder with 7:06 to play that keeps the Cowboys in the game. He missed from 31 yards to close out the first half after that replay fiasco probably iced him, although he did kick some into the net during the break.

Even taking over at their 40 yard line it makes you wonder if the Cowboys can do anything on this drive.

Redskins pulling away, 6-0

I kid, but Shaun Suisham just hit a 31-yard field goal to make it 6-0 Washington.

The big play was a 36-yard catch-and-run by Malcolm Kelly afterhe got away from Mike Jenkins. The Redskins helped the Cowboys out with a minus run (Igor Olshansky) and a false start penalty.

But with how things are going this might be an insurmountable lead.

Shaun Suisham Was Happy For Mike Sellers (And Hunter Smith Too)

We'll get to the part where kicker Shaun Suisham WAS happy in a bit, but this story starts elsewhere: Suisham had read on some obscure blog somewhere that Hunter Smith had no intention of throwing him the ball on the touchdown play that ultimately went to Mike Sellers, and he was not pleased."I talked to Hunter about that, because I wasn't happy," Suisham told me today, trying very hard to look stern and serious. "I left him a voicemail. My wife told me it was on the w...

Place kicker Shaun Suisham made field goals of 30 and 35 yards and he is 12 for 12 on the season. Could he go perfect for the whole season? "I'm not focused on that," Suisham said. "I'm just happy I could contribute, happy that we won." There was, though, one part of Suisham's game that was less than perfect. Normally reliable on kickoffs, he kicked two out of bounds on Sunday, twice giving the Broncos the ball at the Redskins' 40. "The first one was a...

The Redskins had a chance to tie the score late in the third quarter but lost the ball on downs instead. The Broncos entered the fourth quarter clinging to a narrow 17-14 advantage. Coach Jim Zorn will face plenty of questions over his decision to go for it on fourth-and-one from Denver's 28-yard line. It would've been a 45-yard field goal attempt for kicker Shaun Suisham, who's 10-for-10 on field goal tries this year. Instead Zorn kept his offense on the field.
We'll start with the good news because there's not much of it, and it shouldn't take too long: The Redskins scored points in the second quarter - a 48-yard field off the foot of Shaun Suisham (who's quietly having a good year). But they still trailed the Falcons 24-3 at the break. The bad news is they've lost their starting running back and temporarily lost quarterback Jason Campbell. Campbell was sacked five times in the first half and on the fifth, he didn't get up. ...

In a relieved, loose Redskins postgame locker room, a whole lot of the players were going out of their way to congratulate Shaun Suisham -- a guy who didn't score a touchdown and had a stat line that was below league average in every major statistical category for the position. Of course, that was because he performed admirably even when the position in question wasn't one that he usually plays. Or practices for. When Suisham was asked the last time he practiced a punt, he stopped, th...
