The Seattle Seahawks better watch out or they just might be the NFL's version of the Atlanta Braves. The team is the four-time defending champions of the NFC West and has been to the playoffs five consecutive years, but that hasn't translated into a lot of playoff success...

NFL INSIDER: Deadline Looms for Cowboys Deal

When he vacationed in Orlando last summer, agent Kennard McGuire brokered a long-term deal with Detroit for its franchise player, Cory Redding. McGuire hopes the same can happen for another client this week, Cowboys' franchise player Ken Hamlin, although a deadline is approaching. The Cowboys and McGuire have until 3 p.m. Tuesday to reach an agreement on a long-term deal or else the Pro Bowl safety can only play for the one-year tender offer of $4.396 million. Since putting the franchise tag on Hamlin in March, the Cowboys were able to finalize multiyear deals for fellow Pro Bowlers Flozell Adams, Terence Newman, Terrell Owens and Marion Barber, among others. Even as they vacationed, Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones and McGuire kept negotiating on a multi-year deal last week, but the talks figure to take on more urgency. With more than $8 million in salary-cap room, money has not been the issue, however, the structure of the contract has because of changes in the collective bargaining agreement coming next year.

Tatupu Pleads Guilty to Drunk Driving

Hawks LB Lofa Tatupu today plead guilty to drunken driving and was sentenced to a day in jail and will pay fines totaling up to $1,255. "Lofa fully accepted responsibility by pleading guilty as charged.
Three Seahawks Make the Top 50 Players List

CBS Sportsline's Pete Prisco is out with his annual Top 50 NFL Players list, and three Seahawks are on the list, starting with #16 tackle Walter Jones. Also on the list is Lofa Tatupu and Marcus Trufant. Here is the breakdown on the three:
16. Walter Jones, T, Seattle Seahawks: Jones is a rock on the left side of the Seattle line. He is a great pass protector who has improved as a run blocker.
40. Lofa Tatupu, LB, Seattle Seahawks: He's a fierce tackler in the middle of that Seattle defense. He's not big at 6-feet tall, but he plays big. You can tell he loves the game.
47. Marcus Trufant, CB, Seattle Seahawks: He led all NFC corners with seven interceptions. He also got credit for 22 passes defensed. He has emerged as a top-tier corner.

Tatupu enters DUI plea, NFL needs to punish too

Seattle Seahawks Lofa Tatupu had a court appearance today over his May DUI arrest. A little background on the situation for those that don't know. On May 10th, Tatupu failed three field sobriety tests and then blew two breath tests that registered a .155 and .158. The legal limit is a .08 so Tatupu was clearly over intoxicated. Surprisingly, Tatupu's lawyer entered a not guilty plea for the linebacker today.

Can I Get A Double McVodka........I Mean Big Mac

Lofa Tatupu is the latest football star to join the off-season dumb-dumb list. Getting wheeled while in the McDonald's drive-threw after having more than a couple cocktails. He just wanted to get some McGreasy food while enjoying his summer. Grimus, AKA Mike Holmgren, must have passed along his wisdom of chowing down on some McDanks when the drunk munchies kick in.

Thank God I Charged My Phone

I brought my charger with me because I knew the phone would be blowing up. It has been buzzing non stop. I have gotten 90 text messages and I don't know how many calls. The best call was from Marvin Lewis of course, but I was really excited to get calls from Carson Palmer and John Thornton. They are the two leaders of the team and for them to call means an awful lot to me. I will be flying into Cincinnati tomorrow morning. I didn't realize it was so far away from Florida.

Matt Leinart called and left an awesome message. We were roommates when I first came to USC. It was great hearing his voice. Lofa (Tatupu) called just before the pick. I couldn't believe it - I told him 'Lofa I'm waiting for a team to call.' It was great talking to him though. He just wanted to wish me well. Reggie Bush sent a text so did Thomas Williams and Terrell Thomas. It's been great hearing from all my friends and teammates.

Hawks LB doesn't see a need for helmet receiver

The NFL's latest venture into on-field technology has done something to Lofa Tatupu that few opposing offenses have been able to accomplish -- surprise the Seahawks' middle linebacker.

At their annual owners meeting, which concluded Wednesday, the league approved the use of a communication device for defensive players -- similar to what the quarterbacks have been using in their helmets the past few seasons.

Tatupu is the logical choice to be the one defensive player for the Seahawks with a receiver in his helmet because he makes the calls, which until now have been relayed from the sideline with hand signals.

The decision not only caught Tatupu by surprise, it's a good thing they didn't give him a say -- because it passed by only one vote, 25-7 (rule changes require 75 percent approval by owners).

"Personally, I don't like it," he said. "I just don't deem it necessary."

The Seahawks voted against the measure, one of seven teams to do so Tuesday.
