Yoink

I'd love to get all up on my high horse about this undeniably douchy move by Thad Matta…
When Cameron Wright got off the phone with Ohio State men's basketball coach Thad Matta on Tuesday night, the junior guard from Benedictine knew he was not going to fulfill his dream of playing basketball for the Buckeyes. …
While recruits in football and basketball backing out of non-binding oral commitments isn't unusual, this wasn't a case of a kid changing his mind. Ever since OSU...

Hello: Evan Smotrycz

Someone tattoo this man extensively.
Massachusetts small(-ish) forward Evan Smotrycz has committed to Michigan, annoying both that guy from the mailbag yesterday and bloggers who have to spell "Smotrycz" for four years. In this, we are united. UMHoops has your googlestalking profile; this is what leapt out at me:
While Smotrycz finished with 18 points & 10 rebounds, how he got those numbers were even more impressive. He knocked down a one-dribble step-back three-pointe...

Season Finale

3/21/2009 – Michigan 63, Oklahoma 73 – 21-14, 9-9 Big Ten

The narrative of Michigan's basketball season was one of gritty, gutty, Eckstein-like overachievement, what with walk-ons at point guard and a 6'4" freshman at power forward and mismatched pieces in many places. It's not like this was a secret. I've typed "walk-ons at point guard" and "6'4" freshman power forward" probably a dozen times over the past couple months, often...

NCAA Second Round: Michigan vs. Oklahoma Post Game

Michigan fought until the end but Blake Griffin and Oklahoma were just too much. Michigan hung tough in the first half despite Manny Harris picking up his second foul early and sitting for the last fifteen minutes. Michigan was able to stay close mostly thanks to an unlikely hero, Anthony Wright. Wright had 12 points [...]

Oklahoma Wins; Season Over

Michigan succumbed to the Sooners, but for some reason I’m not mad. It wasn’t our year yet. Our two best players had foul trouble for most of the game, leading to lots of playing time for Walkons, Canadians, and Anthony Wright.
Speaking of whom, dude killed it tonight. Even if he reverts to Anthony Wright 2007-08 [...]

Michigan-Maryland Postgame

A few quick thoughts on last night's game:Man, Anthony Wright just sucks. I've thought that all along, but I decided to try to trust those who know a little more basketball than I do. Unless Wright goes on a ridiculous tear sometime soon, I shall not be dissuaded.Early in the second half, I ...

Protest Beard

I feel like this could catch on. The "livestrong bracelet" for 2008. Except this is actually for an important cause people care about. Two New York teams have made devastating personnel moves. This and and especially this.

First on the Knicks. Take a gander at their draft history. It makes me want to gnaw the scalp off of every child Brangelina adopts. The untrained eye might fail to see the putrid attempt at foreign scouting this team has done. Maciej Lampe? Slavko Vranes? Oh don't forget about this bag o'douche. Referred to in French as "le dunk de morte" it translates to "tell me how my balls taste, Frederick." Now, the Knicks once again tried their hands at plucking players over international waters and all I really wanted was Eric Gordon. But, you know, Danillo had "a great two day workout" which should obviously supplant the season by one of the best players in college this year.

A week before that, the Giants waived Jared Lorenzen, aka J-Load, Pillsbury Throwboy, Hefty Lefty, etc. Sure the Giants were rivaling the quarterback fetish of Gruden in Tampa with Eli, Lorenzen, Anthony Wright, David Carr, and Andr? Woodson on the roster, but why the guy who came out 13lbs 3 oz (I shart you not). Yes, it would have been catastrophic if Eli's injury after week 3 actually was serious and the 285lb southpaw was handed the reigns to Big Blue. But I feel that giving David Carr the backup spot is like giving Nick Hogan the keys to your John Deere. It may not seem like a big deal, but somehow you know something really bad could happen.

As I eluded to in the beginning, I am trying to start a worthwhile cause to demonstrate just analogous the roster moves by these teams feels. Well, it kinda feels like this. But now I introduce Protest Beard.

Now first, you may be asking... Hype, what qualifies as a beard? I feel that a beard is in fact a "beard" when you could put on K-Swiss and a sweatshirt from some East Coast vacation spot enscribed on it and pass for homeless. I don't expect Protest Beard to catch on, but then again, did Reagan really expect the wall to fall down that quick? So for the next week, month, or year... put down the Mach 5 and the tea-oil based face lotion. Accept the fact that girls won't talk to you. And grow a Protest Beard. Bye Jared.
The basketball camp came and went without the blessed event -- a commit from CA PG Darius Morris -- beleaguered Michigan basketball fans have been pining for. The articles on the premium sites($) remain extremely positive, however, and Morris plans to decide within a month or two. Keep an eye out to see if he takes any more visits. If he doesn't, he will commit.
Meanwhile, freshmen are on campus and working out. The camp was open to the public, so respected internets poster MHoops1 took ...

Is the Ravens Offense Getting Better or Worse?

I picked this up from the Baltimore Ravens' fan site, www.extremeravens.com. Columnist Ken Force writes about the dominating defense being back, but that the offense seemed to look exponentially worse against the Raiders in week 2 than they did in week 1 against the Buccaneers.

I'm not worried in the least. The Raiders, as bad as they are, have a good defense that works hard and has been upto the challenge, especially against the Ravens. Steve McNair is not Elvis Grbac, Kyle Boller, or Anthony Wright. He's a former NFL MVP and a proven veteran who has weapons.

The one person I am worried for is Jamal Lewis. He just doesn't look like the same back at all anymore. Mike Anderson's waiting in the wings, guys. And let's not forget Musa Smith. He's vastly improving week after week.

Baltimore and Cincinnati for the AFC North, down to the wire.
