Sign of the Times: Repressive Redskins

by Kevin BlackistoneFiled under: NFLBarack Obama and his family probably didn't meet the longtime neighbor of their new crib at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. William "Doubting" Thomas was in the hospital by the time the Obamas moved in Jan. 20. He died three days later from pulmonary disease. He was just 61.But Thomas lived by day across the street from the White House -- 1601 Pennsylvania Avenue, or Lafayette Square -- under a makeshift shell of umbrellas and tarps. He decorated hi...

Eagles Draft Discussion: What will the Eagles do at left tackle and running back?

Here is my in-depth analysis on what the Eagles approach may be at adding a left tackle. They could trade for Bills LT Jason Peters or trade up for a guy like Michael Oher. What I found more interesting is the Eagles options at RB. The Eagles have about a half-dozen options at RB. I used to be a Knowshon Moreno fanatic and I'd also be happy with Beanie Wells, but the Eagles can find a diamond-in-the-rough RB in the 2nd or 3rd round. I love Texas A&M's Mike Goodson! He is very much like Brian Westbrook and I say the Eagles should jump on him as early as the 2nd round assuming those first two picks of theirs net Michael Oher and Brandon Pettigrew. You have to see this higlight video at the end of the article.
Another Eagle moves on: Tra Thomas signs with the Jaguars

While it certainly won't have the impact of the departure of Brian
Dawkins, the Eagles have lost another veteran leader today. Tra Thomas,
who had been an Eagle since 1998, signed a three year contract with the
Jacksonville Jaguars. Thomas went to Florida State and is a native of
Florida so the move will be a homecoming for him. The writing had been on the wall for a while on this one..... Click for more on Thomas and the Eagles plans for the offensive line.....

Free Agency is looming: What will the Eagles do?

With the start of free agency just 36 hours away, we are all trying to anticipate what kind of moves the Eagles will make. The Eagles are $30 million under the cap, so there's plenty of room to make big moves. Here are six free agents that the Eagles should court. This article explores the free agent rankings by position.

Although I'm personally pulling for Houshmandzadeh, who we may risk losing to the Giants, I think the Eagles top priority is the offensive line, so pursuing Ravens G/C Jason Brown may be the Eagles first move.

Read on for more...
Eagles to bring back Dawkins, Thomas

After their free agent possibilities took a major hit yesterday, it was nice to get some good news on the Eagles front today. According to Andy Reid,
the Eagles are closing in on re-signing veterans Brian Dawkins and
William Thomas. Reid believes that deals will happen for both "in the
next few days". Both players are unrestricted free agents. After
learning that Jordan Gross, the best available free agent offensive
lineman, signed a long-term deal with the Panthers.... Click ...

Bad news for the Eagles: Gross signed, Peppers tagged, Boldin willing to stay in Arizona

With free agency just over a week away, Eagles fans have been
salivating at the idea of signing some of the top available talent. The
Birds need help along the offensive line and at wide receiver so rumors
have been running rampant over which free agents the team is targeting.
Unfortunately for the Eagles, three players believed to be on the radar
have now been taken off. The Carolina Panthers had a pair of
free agents, tackle Jordan Gross and defensive end Julius Peppers, and
it didn't l...

Winston Justice is on the block!

DNL just reported Eagles T Winston Justice is on the trading block! Keep the phone lines clear, they could be ringing off the hook! Haha No this is not the joke of the day, but it really should be. The team is in talks with Tra Thomas so one of our holes may be filled...at least for a season.
Eagles won't use franchise tag, are shopping Justice

With free agency just around the corner, the Eagles are making their
final adjustments as they prepare to, hopefully, solidify their offense
this offseason. One move the Eagles won't make is they won't use
their franchise tag on any of their possible free agents. This move was
expected since the Birds don't really have anyone that they would want
to retain for the high price of a franchised player..... Another player likely on his way out of town is offensive lineman Winston ...

Heckert: Eagles to target offensive line, not wideouts

While all the rumors about Anquan Boldin and T.J. Houshmandzadeh coming to the Eagles are intriguing, they're only rumors unless the Birds actually do something about it. Ever since the Eagles had the T.O. experience, they have been hesitant to go out and acquire a big name free agent wide receiver. It appears that will be the case again this offseason, at least according to GM Tom Heckert. Heckert sat down for an interview with Fox 29 and laid out the Eagles plans for the offseason. He s...

Bernie Mac and Other Thoughts

Just a quick note before sharing some football thoughts...

I was very saddened to hear about the death of Bernie Mac. I was a big fan of his comedy and acting and felt a closeness as a fellow Chicago native. What a tragedy for him to have died so young. Now some football ...

I'm really excited about the upcoming season. Personally, I feel great and I know that some of our veteran leaders have returned to health. Coach Reid's "Over 30 Club," where he lets those players who are 30+ have every third day off at training camp, has helped me and I'm pretty sure that you'd get the same response if you ask Brian Dawkins, Tra Thomas, Jon Runyan and a few other guys.

Also, having two under-30 performers - L.J. Smith and Lito Sheppard - return to the field this season after battling injuries last year will help us tremendously. Add to that the improvement shown by young players such as Stewart Bradley, Chris Gocong, and Brent Celek, and the depth of the team becomes a strength.

I have no idea how the final roster will shake out but our offensive line is strong and the combination of Brian Westbrook, Correll Buckhalter and Lorenzo Booker will help us balance the offense. Our wide receiving corps has taken a lot of criticism but Reggie Brown has had a strong camp and Kevin Curtis has a full season in this offense - with 75 catches and 1,000 yards - under his belt. What we need to do is figure out a way to keep everyone involved and exploit their specific strengths by creating mismatches.

This week in New England will be a final tuneup for many of the starters. In years past we didn't play much if at all in the final preseason game. We need to start the season strong and carry that through the rest of the season. I'm looking forward to Sunday, September 7 vs. the St. Louis Rams!
