2009 Review: Ryan Langerhans

What can you really say about Ryan Langerhans? We gave up in reality someone that was a perminal AAAA player, had no position and brought along a suspect bat for someone who was an defensive specialist playing any outfield position bringing along amazing glove with range and the downside of a below average bat.
While he stepped into a rough situation where Endy [...]

Rays at Mariners, Game One Notes

So that was pretty awesome. That wasn’t really one of the least likely wins of the year, but it certainly seemed like it. Ryan Langerhans, a lefty, facing a really good left handed reliever, with a 1-2 count. That just doesn’t seem like a normal time for a home run to occur. It happened though, [...]

Langerhans’s hans not quite lang enough

The only thing that’s made Baltimore watch-able this season has been their offense and their clutchiness with men in scoring position. But no one had to worry about that Monday, as Nick Markakis managed the Orioles’ only hit, an opposite field dink that landed about three feet in front of Ryan Langerhans.
If Ryan’s hans had been a little langer, we’d be talking about a perfect game for Seattle’s Jarrod Washburn.
Jarrod Washburn to'e up the O's Monday.
The M’s lefty needed only 129 minutes, 110 pitches and 28 batters to dispatch the Orioles at Safeco last night. I guess when one team only sends 28 guys to the plate, the game tends to move along a little quicker. But two hours and...

Ryan Langerhans era begins for Seattle Mariners tonight

Just got upstairs from the clubhouse, where the lineups have been posted and Ryan Langerhans is indeed starting in left field for the Mariners against C.C. Sabathia and the New York Yankees tonight. That's not a huge surprise, since it's already been stated that Langerhans will get the bulk of playing time when there's a righthanded pitcher on the mound.
The Yankees lineup will not be as potent as the one the past two nights.

Did Mariners Get Trade Idea from Fans?

For much of the universe, a trade involving two marginal minor leaguers -- Mariners 27-year-old infield prospect Michael Morse and Nationals journeyman outfielder Ryan Langerhans -- registered hardly a blip on the news wire. A bad team and a mediocre team swapping bit pieces a few weeks before the All-Star break? Who cares?

Well, at least a few Mariners fans cared about this exact trade, and they managed to care about it a few days before it happened. Dave Cameron from USS Mariner, for examp...

Ryan Langerhans: The Bad

Contact. In the Majors, Langerhans has run a career contact rate of 74.0%, which is below the league average. He hangs out in the high 70s in AAA. It's not that Langerhans has a really long swing or anything - it's that he just misses the ball a lot. He makes contact with pitches out of the zone like Russell Branyan and he makes contact with pitches in the zone like Wlad. The only thing keeping his overall contact rate a little higher is that he doesn't chase as many balls. ...

Mariners - Acquired Langerhans

Seattle Mariners - Acquired OF Ryan Langerhans from the Washington Nationals for UT Mike Morse.

I both love and hate challenge trades. Without the imbalances in position, contract, or short and long-term goals, I get the benefit of generally being able to declare a winner. This is more fun to write than a wishy-washy entry about how both teams did OK and got what they needed. The downside, of course, is that there aren't a lot of outs if I'm wrong.

In this case, I give the win to th...

Have you looked at Ryan Langerhans, currently in the Nats' organization? Jack_Zduriencik: Good suggestion.Well, lo and behold, 4 days later, the Mariners did just that...acquiring Langerhans from the Nationals for Mike Morse.Maybe we're on to a new trend here in baseball.
