This year, the stakes are just a bit higher. My beloved boys are in first place in the AL West, but the Angels...

NHL Labor Peace Expected to Last. Players to Extend Labor Agreement

As part of the latest collective-bargaining agreement with the NHL, the players have the right to opt out of the current CBA, or vote to extend it. For fans of the NHL, it appears labor peace will be remain in place as the NHLPA will vote in favor the extension. As reported by Liz Mullen of the SportsBusiness Journal: Sources said an announcement of the players? decision may be made the week of the NHL All-Star Game, set for Jan. 25 in Montreal. NHLPA spokesman Jonathan Weatherdon said in an e-mail that players would vote on the issue in mid- to late January. As part of the labor agreement, players have the option to terminate the agreement by Sept. 9 or agree to an extension for two more seasons. The agreement can also be extended for one more season, after the 2010-11 season. As further reported by Mullen, ?The players are not required to tell the league of their plans until mid-May 2009, but NHLPA Executive Director Paul Kelly has said he plans to inform the league of the union?s decision in January.??
NFC Title Game in Glendale Sells Out in 6 min.

Fans in the Phoenix area believe in them now. Just two weeks after needing two 24 hour extensions to sellout their first home playoff game in 61 years against the Falcons, the Arizona Cardinals are one win away from a Super Bowl, and tickets went fast. According to the Cardinals, this Sunday?s NFC Championship game, to be played at University of Phoenix Stadium, sold out in 6 min. And, to add fuel to the bandwagon affair, according to the AZ Republic, the sellout came with the Cards adding an additional 5,500 seats to the mix, bumping capacity from 64,500 to 70,000. Was it a case of reality setting in? Was it beating Carolina? Was it the notion that the Arizona Cardinals ? yes, the Cardinals ? could be headed to the Super Bowl? Whatever the reason, no extensions needed this time.?
