Bruno Boys Fantasy Football - Offseason Notes

Bruno Boys Caviglia: Hello, and welcome to the Bruno Boys first installment of the "Offseason Roundtable." Throughout the offseason, Chris Ziza and I will be giving our opinions on the happenings around the NFL and what you can make of it from a fantasy football perspective. With drafts less than 5 months away this valuable information can help you prepare for the upcoming 2008 season.

Bruno Boys Ziza: Thats right Cavigs, it's never to early to start researching for the upcoming fantasy football season. It's a year round job if you want to take home your leagues championship trophy. Now let's get on with the show!
-------------------
1. What impact will WR Randy Moss resigning with the New England Patriots have on his and QB Tom Brady's value? Do you expect a similar year of production from both players in 2008?

Bruno Boys Ziza: I think this helps Moss more than Brady, as I see the Patriots trying to go at least a little more into the direction of a solid running game this year. Moss remains with a team that has a solid QB that will be looking for him deep a few times a game, allowing him to remain on top of his game if he chooses to do so. As for Brady, this allows him to keep his homerun hitter, but I still see the Patriots using running back Laurence Maroney more, which all but should at least affect his fantasy football stats to some degree.

Bruno Boys Caviglia: Patriots fans better praise Randy Moss for "wanting to win" and not chasing the money, because in my opinion New England's front office stiffed him financially. Regardless, when it comes to fantasy football, Moss should be able to have another stellar season in Foxboro. He might not eclipse the 23 touchdowns he had in 2007, but 1,400-1,500 receiving yards and 15+ touchdowns is likely. As for Tom Brady, the weapons surround him to continue his production, but to think he can repeat the 50 touchdown pass performance he had last season is a strech. Still, I believe Brady's 2008 totals will hover around 4,000+ passing yards and 35-40 touchdown passes, which make him worthy of an late first or early second round selection.

My boy is gone!

I'm excited for Mike Turner. He is a back in this league that could have been starting since his rookie year. He finally got his big payday that he has been waiting for. He will be a good fit in the ATL. He's a strong power every-down back with the speed to take it the distance. His only downfall is that the Falcons play the Chargers this year and we are going to break his facemask.

Thank You Warrick Dunn!

The writing was on the wall...but I didn't want to read what had been written. On Sunday, with the Atlanta Falcons' signing of Michael Turner, it became painstakingly evident. On Monday, it became official -- next season Warrick Dunn will not be in a Falcons' uniform.

Michael Turner is a Falcon!

Arguably the best back-up runner in the NFL, Michael Turner, is set to sign a six year deal with the Atlanta Falcons.

Turner has been the back-up for LaDainian Tomlinson the past four seasons, but is expected to be the starting back for the first time in his career.

"It was really the whole organization and what they're trying to do," Turner told The Associated Press on Sunday when asked what influenced his decision. "Everybody is fresh with a clean slate and trying to build things back up. ... I did not come into the visit expecting to sign so soon. I didn't know what to expect."

This acquisition by the Falcons could signal the end of Warrick Dunns' tenure in Atlanta, which would save the team about $3 million in salary cap room.

The deal with Turner and Atlanta is believed to be for $34.5 million, with approximately $15 million guaranteed.

Turner had 228 carries for 1,257 yards and six touchdowns in four seasons with San Diego. He also had three of the longest 11 carries in team history - 83, 74 and 73 yards.

He has averaged 5.5 yards per carry in his career.

Hello Michael Turner, goodbye Warrick Dunn

The Atlanta Falcons signed Michael Turner to a 6-year, $34.5 million deal today. The move makes Jerious Norwood the logical backup and most likely puts Warrick Dunn on unemployment. It also significantly decreases the chances that Atlanta will draft Darren McFadden, who now may fall to the Oakland Raiders at #4. Gulp. Atlanta could be looking to bring in Matt Ryan with the 3rd overall pick. The Falcons seem doomed to walk the Earth with a below average receiving corps, but if the second of those two moves take place, they'll have sured up their QB and RB position for the next half decade. Nice start to the post Bobby Petrino era.

Titans shoping for a running back.

Titans are expected to make offers to Marion Barber former Dallas Cowboy Pro Bowl running back and Michael Turner former Rams back up running back.
Jeff Fisher feels that it is going to be harder to get a hold of Turner because Barber is expected to have a first round tender on him by Thursday. Sources close to Coach Fisher have said he is more then willing to pay a first round pick for a sure thing.
