HHR Is Trenton

On Lalor Street, not far from the Mercer County Waterfront Park, the home of the Yankee's AA affiliate, the Trenton Thunder, I saw the following glossy, new billboard:

I had to laugh.

What are you saying, Troy?

You rank 327 out of 335 New Jersey high schools?

You're the 14th overall Most Dangerous City IN THE COUNTRY? 4th among cities with a population between 75,000 TO 99,999?

You're home to the violent feuding between the Sex Money Murder and the Gangster Killer Bloods factions of Bloods.

Obviously, the organization for which Vincent lends his name and image aim to combat these unfavorable distinctions.

But keep it real, Troy. Sure you grew up in Trenton's public school system, but then you went to high school at Pennsbury in PA. You then hightailed it out to the confines of Wisconsin for college - which you chose not to finish.

For over a decade, your name is always associated with charitable endeavors in the city, but what has ever come from them? Sure your heart is in the right place, but the city continues to fall deeper and deeper into despair.

No disrespect, but it may be time to give up on the philanthropy. Besides, there's a new do-gooder in town.

The Rivalry That Is The Philadelphia Eagles vs. The Dallas Cowboys: Through My Eyes

Tonight marks the Philadelphia Eagles final visit to Texas Stadium (barring a playoff match up), the site of many great battles between the Birds and the 'Boys. With both team's sights locked on Tampa in February, this early season battle will add another chapter to one of the NFL's most bitter rivalries.

What is your most memorable Eagles/Cowboys game?

For two weeks every year, Eagles fans go by two words - Dallas week.

It's week two of the NFL season and here we are, an early pinnacle to the 2008 season, and a huge showdown between the two NFC East foes.

Dallas week is here already. Eagles fans hate the Cowboys (a.k.a. Cowgirls) and Cowboy fans hate the Eagles.

There have been many memorable games between the two teams, and this week could bring us another one.

As we approach the Monday night rivalry game, let's take a look back at the most menorable games between the Eagles and Cowboys:

The 4th and 1 game. The year was 1995, game was tied at 17 and the Cowboys had the ball at their own 29 with 4th and inches. The Cowboys ran Emmitt Smith and the Eagles stopped him behind the line. The crowd was going so crazy that it took a minute to realize the play had been blown dead due to the 2 minute warning. The Cowboys ran the same play again. I'll never forget the Merrill Reese call. "The give is to Smith and they stop him again!" Eagles won on a late field goal.

The Eagles win, the Eagles win, the Eagles win. The game was in Dallas in 1996. The Cowboys were driving and at the Eagles 3-year line. A Troy Aikman pass was intercepted by James Willis, who ran out to the 10-yard line and then laterals the ball to Troy Vincent. Vincent crossed the field and ran it back for a touchdown. Reese shouted, "The Eagles win, the Eagles win, the Eagles win."

The Michael Irvin injury game in 1999. Philadelphia fans got a bad rap on this one. They cheered Michael Irvin's career ending injury.

The pickle juice game. To help with the heat, Eagles players drank pickle juice prior to the opening game of the 2000 season. The Eagles shocked the Cowboys with an onside kick to start the game and never looked back, winning 41-14.

The McNabb scramble game in 2004. For 14.1 seconds, Donovan McNabb scrambled, avoiding one Dallas defender after another. He then hit Freddie Mitchell for a 60-yard bomb. The Ealgles won 49-21 in front of a Monday night national audience.

The game Owens got hurt in 2004. Then with the Eagles, Terrell Owens at the Eagles were flying high. There was no doubt the Eagles were going to make it to the Super Bowl. That is, until Owens was dragged down by Roy Williams and his horsecollar tackle (a move that was later banned). Eagles fans hopes were dashed. The Eagles did make it to the Super Bowl without Owens, and he returned for the big game and played phenominal. Of coarse, things fell apart for Owens and the team after that.

Owens first game vs the Eagles as a Cowboy in 2006. Emotions were running very high for this game. Eagles fans chanted OD, OD, OD, OD for an overdose Owens had leading up to the game. Owens was shut down. The Eagles led 31-24 late in the game but the Cowboys drove down the field to the 6-yard line. Bledsoe dropped back and fired a pass that was intercepted and returned for a TD by Lito Sheppard. It was a remarkable game.

Christmas day 2006. With first place on the line and the Eagles in Dallas, Philadelphia came out and dominated the Cowboys behind Jeff Garcia on their way to first place.

What is your favorite memory? Hopefully the Eagles will make a new one this Monday night.

Will Vincent Replace Upshaw?

He always thought he could do a better job (though even a 5 year old could have of late) but he will he get his chance? It used to be an almost certainty that Troy would take over and now there is a void to be filled. Gotta say that it would be great to see one of our own running that show.

Lito IS Staying, Im Feelin Nostalgic!!! LETS GET THIS SEASON GOING!!!

Listening to Andy Reid at his press conference, it sounds like Lito Sheppard is staying. THANK THE FOOTBALL GODS!!!! I didnt want to see Lito Sheppard be traded. Yeah i know most of you think the Eagles need another huge ego on the team to catch the ball, but if we need to address that still (which i feel has been done with the addition of Desean Jackson, AND NO IM NOT SAYING HE IS A #1 WR, i think Desean Jackson is another Brian Westbrook, but in the form of Steve Smith of the Panthers) instead of trading Lito, we got an extra #1 in 09 to use instead.
So, im feeling very good about this season. Being an eagles fan for all my 27 years, i just cant wait. This team on paper is a special team, and thats as far as im going. Im not predicting a super bowl, which i would love, and who wouldnt in Philly? But the one thing thats got me excited is we have the rebirth of the mosst feared secondary in the NFL. Eagle Fans, remember when we had Troy Vincent, Bobby Taylor, Al Harris, and of course a younger Brian Dawkins in the back? That was a major part of those NFC Championship years. Brian Dawkins is my favorite eagle, and i loved that team! Now we have Asante Samuel, Lito Sheppard, Sheldon Brown, and still, the X Factor, Mr Brian Dawkins. All im saying, T.O. GET YOUR POPCORN READY BABY!!!! Something is telling me also, in my heart, knowing my boy Dawk, having this around him, well make him better, and he is going to retire having the best year of his career. Imagine the entire starting NFC Pro Bowl Secondary wearing Eagle Green in Honolulu this year? Im so excited! Were in for great things this year.

Im sure i will hear some of you haters and negative people... but cmon... THIS IS OUR CHANCE TO GET REVENGE ON T.O.!!!!!!! and im un-retiring my Troy Vincent Jersey!

Vincent to become union's No. 2

Troy Vincent, former president of the NFL Players Association, expects to be named assistant executive director of the union at a meeting of the union's executives and team player representatives this week in Maui, according to two sources.

Vincent, who said last month in Phoenix that he is officially done as a player, can no longer serve as the player rep. Instead, he'll replace Doug Allen as No. 2 in command of the union. Allen served under NFLPA executive director Gene Upshaw for more than a decade. He left the job after the 2006 season to become national executive director of the Screen Actors Guild and the post had been vacant since.

Vincent, 36, played 15 seasons with the Miami Dolphins, Philadelphia Eagles, Buffalo Bills and Washington Redskins. He was originally drafted as a cornerback with the No. 7 overall pick in the 1992 draft by Miami after playing college football at Wisconsin.

He finished his career with 47 interceptions, including three returned for touchdowns, and was named to five Pro Bowls. He had spent the past four years as the union's president until his term ran out this month.

Tennessee Titans center Kevin Mawae will replace Vincent as president.

What should the Eagles do this upcoming NFL draft?

After this past season, it is clear to me that the Eagles need to do some tweaking to their roster, and it starts with the draft. Great teams build from within and then supplement that with smart free agent pick ups i.e. Troy Vincent, Jon Runyan, Hugh Douglas. The Eagles used to be the golden standard not too long ago with their philosophy of drafting well and making good decisions on how much to spend on certain free agents. Flat out the Eagles need a better strong safety, a successor to Brian Dawkins, overall just more depth in the secondary. All of the Eagles corners are short, and while I think Brown and Sheppard are great when healthy, and Hanson looks like a find, they could use a taller corner in the mold of a guy like Cromartie. We all know how that Will James experiment worked out. Different name, different team, same overhyped piece of garbage. I don't think theres as much of a need for wide receivers as other people do, not that I don't think it needs to be upgraded. I'm not interested in a rookie receiver, too risky and too much of a bust factor with early picks. If the Eagles go for a receiver it should be 3rd round and later or go get a Chad Johnson(anyone who buys that hes not going anywhere is foolish). We could use a better guard than Todd Herremans, he needs to replaced. I don't know if hes just not good at guard but that was a sore spot on the line. Defensive line could always use some depth, since Ramsey, Howard, and Kearse were ineffective at best. Juqua Thomas is much better as a situational rusher, though I believe Abiamiri will be the starter this year with his overall game improving. All things considered I don't think the Eagles are desperate at any position. They should be back to being contenders as long as they stay relatively healthy. Once again our hopes as fans will rest squarely on Mcnabb and Westbrook. Also it'd be nice if Dawkins and Sheppard could play a full season haha. Until next time, GO EAGLES!

Fail of the Redskins

This is why I read rotoworld.com religiously. Gregg Rosenthal, in a column that on the surface is about which fantasy football waiver wire pick-ups are to be considered this week, does a better job of summing up the suckage of the Redskins management in recent times than any talking head or magazine writer:

"Choosing the worst Washington personnel move of the last six months is difficult. There are so many options. The Redskins' decision to make Adam Archuleta the highest paid safety in the history of the NFL before benching him for Troy Vincent is near the top. Giving Brandon Lloyd a $10 million signing bonus for less than two catches a week is a candidate. It's hard to overlook the decision to give Andre Carter $30 million over six seasons to be a league average defensive end at best.

"My personal favorite was Washington's move to send at least two mid-round draft picks (a 2007 third and a 2008 fourth) for the privilege to own T.J. Duckett for one season. It's possible the Redskins will have to swap first-round picks with Denver depending on playing time incentives. For that big a price, Washington has received 37 total yards from their third running back in nine games. Joe Gibbs, Dan Snyder, and Vinny Cerrato have mortgaged their future by treating draft picks like trips on Snyder's private jets. The Redskins are built to win now or else, but are 3-6 and going nowhere. Hope is getting more elusive by the day, so they are giving their fan base a young quarterback to watch.

"Former Auburn quarterback Jason Campbell, another player who Washington traded multiple high picks for, better be exceptional. If Campbell isn't the answer, I suspect Joe Gibbs will stop searching. He's too old for another rebuilding project."

Simply a rock solid take, as always, from the best free site on the internet.
