Singletary considers Bly over Brown for cornerback spot

If history has taught us anything, it's that when Singletary said he is considering making a change, it usually means the change is made.

Bly has been a starter throughout his career. He's been the team's third defensive back the entire season. Brown is coming off a shaky performance against the Packers and he's nursing a knee contusion.

Bly said he's ready to start, and Brown said he'll do whatever's best for the team.

If Bly starts, he'll see a...

Folks were wondering when we'd get another great pearl from Mike Singletary and today we got one. Coach Singletary was talking about the need for a team to think like a champion and be able to overcome adversity. He indicated he didn't feel the team had enough guys who were there yet in that mentality. That was followed by this:

That headline could very easily include a whole lot of cursing. This game was SO incredibly frustrating. The 49ers offense was absolutely abysmal for about three-quarters of the game. Then, when the team had fallen far behind, the offense opened up and suddenly was moving the ball with ease. This led to another big game from Vernon Davis, M...

Triple-threat Gore faces big challenge against Packers

* * *

During our talk, Gore said it makes no difference to him whether he runs from the I-formation, the shotgun or the Wildcat. (Last week against the Bears, he gained 25 yards after sweeping around the right side on a direct snap.)

Gore said he likes that the defense is spread out a little more in the shotgun. "You can see the defense better," he said.

Offensive coordinator Jimmy Raye talked about the challenges of facing the Packers defense on Sunday. He said the Pack...

49ers-Bears Part II

Hold by Mark Roman on the return. The 49ers start at the 20.

49ers Drive: Two runs and a very questionable slip screen to Crabtree on third down. Do that play when you need 3 yards, not 10. Delanie Walker with personal foul puts the ball at midfield after the punt. The 49ers might lose this game...

The Titans/Niners play-by-play

Fooch's Note: As those who have read these posts can attest, smileyman has putting together an extremely impressive rundown of the 49ers play-by-play each of the last few weeks. I think it's only fair to move these to the front page as he posts them. Given the length, I've moved it almost entirely after the jump.
Here is this week's play-by-play. Screen shots are taken from the NFL's Game Rewind, so some of them are a little blurry. I'll have comments ...

Safety Michael Lewis left the game in the fourth quarter with a quad strain. And backup running back Glen Coffee sustained a concussion in the fourth quarter. Those appear to be the players who might not be able to rebound for Thursday's game against the Bears.

The rest of the injury report looks like this:

TE Delanie Walker (left knee sprain), G David Baas (right shoulder stinger), CB Tarell Brown left ribs contusion), TE Vernon Davis (left shoulder contusion), RB Frank G...

Digit system speeds Crabtree's learning

But the idea behind the digit system is pretty straight forward. For instance, offensive coordinator Jimmy Raye this week made reference to Crabtree knowing what he's supposed to do on a play called "525 F-Post." Heck, even I know that Crabtree runs a "comeback" route on that play. I have no idea on which side he lines up, if anybody goes in motion, the depth of his route or any of that. But I know the X runs a 5 (comeback), the Y runs a 2 (slant), the Z runs a...

Fooch's Note: As small a comment as this was in the Chronicle article, it's obviously worth moving to the front page for discussion. To save space I moved most of the FanPost after the jump. For those wondering, Coffee returned 2 kicks for 25 total yards at Alabama in 2005, but does not appear to have any other kick return experience. Hmmmm......
Not sure if this is posted anywhere else but it says that Glen Coffee will be the kickoff return man. I don't rem...

York offers to meet with Crabtree, Parker in person

After all, the 49ers did not seem to offend their six previous first-round draft picks over the past four years. The 49ers have also been proactive about signing young players - including Shawntae Spencer, Michael Robinson, Frank Gore, Delanie Walker, Parys Haralson and Joe Staley - to lucrative contract extensions.

Take this as a good sign that York is putting pressure on Crabtree's camp to talk. After all, negotiations and dialogue have been non-existent for most of the 50 days...
