Painful loss for the 49ers

Safety Michael Lewis left the game in the fourth quarter with a quad strain. And backup running back Glen Coffee sustained a concussion in the fourth quarter. Those appear to be the players who might not be able to rebound for Thursday's game against the Bears.

The rest of the injury report looks like this:

TE Delanie Walker (left knee sprain), G David Baas (right shoulder stinger), CB Tarell Brown left ribs contusion), TE Vernon Davis (left shoulder contusion), RB Frank G...

Golden Nuggets: Should be a good one..

Morning everyone. Well, it's gameday. Today the Titans come to San Francisco to lose... I mean play the 49eers in what should be a slaughter... I mean good game. Still, I'm excited, though kind of in a hurry considering I have to rise very early so I can make the two and a half hour drive to SF and get there early enough to pull out the BBQ, table, ice chest and of course the laptop for parking-lot tracking of the other games. So I'll make my introduction rather sort. Oddly en...

Digit system speeds Crabtree's learning

But the idea behind the digit system is pretty straight forward. For instance, offensive coordinator Jimmy Raye this week made reference to Crabtree knowing what he's supposed to do on a play called "525 F-Post." Heck, even I know that Crabtree runs a "comeback" route on that play. I have no idea on which side he lines up, if anybody goes in motion, the depth of his route or any of that. But I know the X runs a 5 (comeback), the Y runs a 2 (slant), the Z runs a...

49ers hand kick return duties to RB Glen Coffee

Fooch's Note: As small a comment as this was in the Chronicle article, it's obviously worth moving to the front page for discussion. To save space I moved most of the FanPost after the jump. For those wondering, Coffee returned 2 kicks for 25 total yards at Alabama in 2005, but does not appear to have any other kick return experience. Hmmmm......
Not sure if this is posted anywhere else but it says that Glen Coffee will be the kickoff return man. I don't rem...

York offers to meet with Crabtree, Parker in person

After all, the 49ers did not seem to offend their six previous first-round draft picks over the past four years. The 49ers have also been proactive about signing young players - including Shawntae Spencer, Michael Robinson, Frank Gore, Delanie Walker, Parys Haralson and Joe Staley - to lucrative contract extensions.

Take this as a good sign that York is putting pressure on Crabtree's camp to talk. After all, negotiations and dialogue have been non-existent for most of the 50 days...

Golden Nuggets: And Walker Said...

Good morning everyone, James here with your Nuggets for the day. Had some internet issues yesterday, hopefully in the future I'll be able to get an email to one of the other front-pagers here and they can cover for me. That aside, I'm here today and I should have plenty of links to put up for you, though I'll try and keep the repitition down. Don't shriek at me if you've read something already, as I haven't been around for a day or so. So, I haven't been follow...

2009 Roster Projections: Tight End/Special teams wrap up

I realize we've had a lot of discussion about the tight ends lately. We've compared Bear and the Duke. We've discussed the fashion interests of Vernon Davis. Before we get into my first 53-man roster projection, we might as well wrap up the tight end discussion today....or at least enough for our purposes at this point. In case you missed them, we've already addressed linebacker, safeties, wide receivers, cornerbacks, offensive line, running backs, ...

49ers FB Zak Keasey Could Have A Torn Biceps Tendon

The 49ers fear that fullback Zak Keasey has a torn biceps tendon, which would put him out for the season. That means tight end Delanie Walker could...
