A review of the Braves arbitration eligible players

Yesterday I took the time to break down the arbitration eligible players on the Braves roster. While I figure Peter Moylan, Matt Diaz and even Boone Logan to be picked up I have a tough time seeing Ryan Church and especially Kelly Johnson wearing a tomahawk on their chest in 2010.
Game 134 Recap: Braves 3, Marlins 8, Bobby Cox 0-good-moves

To sum up this game I'm going to ask you to manage at home. Who would you have brought in to relieve Tommy Hanson in the sixth inning? Would it be the guy who hadn't worked in five days, Buddy Carlyle? No. Would it be the well-rested rookie closer who was just called up, Luis Valdez? No. Would it be a lefty reliever who hasn't been used in over a week, Boone Logan? No. The guy Bobby Cox chose to bring in is the same guy who gave up the lead yesterday. The same guy who would be...

Game 88 Recap: Braves 7, Rockies 8

And here's another one we let get away. Instead of the Braves ending the first half at .500, they end the first half with a disappointing loss that they likely should have won -- a fitting end considering how their first half has gone so far.
Kris Medlen struggled with the walks and ended up getting yanked in the 5th inning. Boone Logan came on and restored order for a couple of innings. He got the first out in the seventh and then Bobby Cox pulls him for Manny Acosta?!? Here's a gu...

Atlanta Braves Get Javier Vasquez

It seems like last off season, things were moving along pretty quickly with regards to trades and free agent signings. However, after checking some of last years transactions, things are basically just about the same.
Last year we had those same anxieties, but nothing really started happening until after teams offered arbitration and the GM's met at the Winter Meetings. So hang in, we're almost there.
That said, the Atlanta Braves made the White Sox put their money where their mouth w...

According to MLB.com, Javier Vazquez is coming to Atlanta, and as long as everything goes well with his physical, he'll serve as the first piece to the Braves' rotation-reconstruction process.

The Braves and White Sox are finalizing a six-player trade that would bring right-hander Vazquez and left-handed reliever Boone Logan to Atlanta.

According to a Major League source, Vazquez will travel to Atlanta on Wednesday for a physical. If all goes well, both teams could choose t...

Braves Acquire Javier Vazquez

According to ESPN, the Braves have sent Brett Lillibridge, Jo-Jo Reyes, and a prospect to the White Sox for Javier Vazquez and reliever Boone Logan. The deal is pending physicals by the parties involved.

Vazquez heads back to the NL after some years in the hitter's league. He is a good pickup for the Braves as they try to address some pitching issues. Reyes is only 24 as of November 20th, so he still has a bit of upside. I don't see much for the light hitting Lillibridge. Logan is only 24 as well and he has two years of experience. I see him as possibly doing pretty well for the Braves. He keeps the ball in the yard pretty well and strikes guys out as well (42 k's in 42 innings last year).

Vazquez was a slim possibility for the Mets. There was talk of the Mets acquiring him weeks ago. He certainly was not their first or even second option. However, I can't help thinking that the Mets always seem to work one step at a time. Other teams appear to kind of bounce around the map ranging from low to mid to high level players. I feel like Minaya prioritizes the important players first then moves on to the lesser significance issue. In theory, this sounds appropriate. However, other teams are addressing multiple areas always.

Lieber, Rowand Rumors Run Rampant

Chicago White Sox GM Ken Williams still has Aaron Rowand in his sights. The rumored deal would have left handed middle relief prospect Boone Logan headed to Philadelphia.

The Phillies are also trying to build interest in Jon Lieber, who doesn't have a rotation spot at the moment. Their target? The Blue Jays and OF Alex Rios. No word on whether the Jays have any interest, but they were open to dealing Rios in the offseason and have major holes in the backend of their rotation.
