Hello, everyone. I hope this Wednesday finds you all well.
I decided to put off beginning my look around the NL Central series again this week, seeing as how there is actual, somewhat interesting news to discuss, so it'll just have to wait. The arbitration offers are in, and the Cardinals made offers to three of their four compensation-eligible players. Holliday, Jo-El Pineiro, and Mark DeRosa received offer...

Not to (Type) B

Yesterday began with a call from the Milwaukee Brewers.
“Hello, Tyler. As a ticket holder in previous seasons, we thought you may be interested in a holiday 4-pack,” the woman said.
Shaken from sleep, I struggled to answer, “Maybe… maybe later,” I managed. “Maybe later.”
And judging by how Milwaukee handled Tuesday’s deadline to offer arbitration to the team’s five Type B free agents, I’m sure many fans share my groggy sentiment.
As the Dec. 1 deadline came and went, Mike Cameron, Jason Kendall, Dave Weathers, Braden Looper and Felipe Lopez were not offered arbitration. Now, most of these declined arbitration cases aren’t exactly surprising, AND just because these players weren’t offered arbi doesn’t necessarily mean they won’t be back. But it probably does.
But where...

Braden Looper Bought Out by Brewers

Starting pitcher Braden Looper was bought out by the Milwaukee Brewers for $1 million this weekend. The other option for the Brewers was to pay Looper $6.5 million next season — but Milwaukee decided against that idea.
The good news for Looper last season is that he led the Brewers in victories with a record of 14-7. The bad news is that he didn’t pitch very well. In fact, he led all of Major League Baseball in runs allowed (123) and home runs allowed (39). The 35-year-old started...

What will Doug Melvin do? (Interactive!)

I was thinking about our good buddy Braden Looper and the 2010 Brewers in general. Even though it would cost us $1 million to un-invite him back for 2010 (the mutual option is not a free option, thanks Doug), I think it's safe to say that most people around these parts would prefer to be Looper-free next season. Although that might seem obvious to us, given the lack of feasible options on the free agent market, I think Doug Melvin is seriously toying with bringing him back...

Where was this two months ago?
For the first six innings, it looked like more of the same for the Brewers tonight, as they fell behind 6-0 and looked lifeless against Adam Wainwright, who was cruising towards his 20th win, which likely would have made him the only major leaguer this season to reach that mark.
Then, all of a sudden in the sev...

However, one executive believes that the Dodgers will sign Wolf, forcing Looper back to Baltimore.
We'll see if another team emerges for Looper, who went 12-14 with a 4.16 ERA in thirty-three games for the Cardinals last season. The Mariners, Brewers, and Padres, among others, could be players for his services.
