Bucs Have Decision Looming On RB Cadillac Williams - GridironFans.com

Though no announcement has been made, indications are Buccaneers RB Cadillac Williams is headed for the Physically Unable to Perform List when camp opens next week in Lake Buena Vista. Because players who begin the preseason on the active roster cannot subsequently move to the PUP list, the Bucs must to make the designation before they begin their first practice, scheduled for July 26 at Disney. If he truly is as close to resuming his career as he has indicated, the Bucs will perhaps have to make some tough decisions about their stable of running backs, one that already includes Warrick Dunn, Michael Bennett and Earnest Graham.

Fantasy Football Notes - Tampa Bay Buccaneers

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers' offense could have withstood a facelift before last season, and can certainly make use of one now. There were no legitimate questions surrounding Jeff Garcia's ability to perform sufficiently as a QB2, but he did not offer the upside that owners typically look for in the middle rounds of their draft. Some hung their hopes on third-year running back Cadillac Williams, but he sustained a hideous, season-ending knee injury (torn patellar tendon) in Week 4 against the Carolina Panthers that left his owners scrambling for Michael Pittman and then, Earnest Graham, who along with Derek Anderson and Ryan Grant, was one of the three hottest free agent grabs of the season.

Joey Galloway posted numbers atypical of a 35-year-old receiver, and Ike Hilliard scored his fourth touchdown in four years as he solidified himself as one of the best starting wideouts that no one wants on their fantasy team. Alex Smith, just like his quarterback counterpart, was also not worth owning, combining with Hilliard to give Garcia that aforementioned minimal upside. Matt Bryant was a benefactor of the overly deliberate offense, turning in a career season by converting 28 of 33 field goal attempts. The Bucs' Team Defense tied the Indianapolis Colts in allowing the fewest points, the likely result of playing against NFC South offenses that sputtered for most of the season.

Bucs QB Garcia upset

Jeff Garcia doesnt have a new contract and he's sounds off.....
TAMPA — For the first time in five years, Jeff Garcia was thrilled he did not have a change of uniform or address in the offseason.

The grass has never grown under the cleats of the vagabond quarterback.

And it's starting to look as if the Bucs do not want Garcia to put down too many roots in Tampa Bay.

Garcia said Tuesday that he's disappointed the team hasn't been willing to tear up his contract and reward him with a new deal that would enable him to finish his career with the Bucs.

Garcia, 38, has one year remaining on his contract that will pay him a base salary of $2-million in 2008. He went 8-6 as a starter for the Bucs last season, leading them to an NFC South title and being named to the Pro Bowl.

Nonrookie starting quarterbacks average between $7-million and $15-million a year in the NFL, making Garcia among the league's lowest-paid quarterbacks.

After Tuesday's workout — the first of the offseason — Garcia was asked if he was disappointed by the lack of progress toward a new deal.

"You could say that," Garcia said. "Talks haven't necessarily gone all that good.

"So in a way, it's disappointing. At this point in my career, I'm no longer 24 or 25 saying, 'I'm going to prove to you I deserve this.' I feel like I've proved throughout my career. And I feel like at this time, it's time to just work with me, and you know what I bring to the team. You know what I've done for the team, and you know how much more I can do. And now I have a year under my system."

The Bucs declined to comment.

There's another reason why Garcia might be unhappy with his contract.

Because of the Bucs' decision to rest him for the final two weeks of the regular season, he fell just short of participating in 70 percent of their offensive snaps, preventing him from earning a seven-figure bonus.

Coach Jon Gruden did not allow Garcia to play the second half of the Bucs' 21-19 loss at San Francisco on Dec. 23. Garcia also was benched for the regular-season finale at home against the Panthers on Dec. 30. As a result, Garcia did not get at least $1-million in bonus money.

Garcia is not required to attend the offseason workout program, which is voluntary. But he participated in Tuesday's as an act of good faith. Whether he attends the rest of this week's workouts or future offseason workout programs remains to be seen, but he indicated his options are limited.

"I'm committed to a second year the way my contract is drawn up," Garcia said. "Yes, I would like to rip it up and create a new one that allows me to finish off my career here. But we're not necessarily on the same page as far as that's concerned."

Garcia, Luke McCown and Bruce Gradkowski were the only quarterbacks that attended practice Tuesday. Chris Simms is not participating in offseason workouts presumably because he wants to be traded. Brian
Griese, acquired in a trade with the Bears in March, had a commitment to a charity event.

Tuesday's practice with the Bucs marked the first time since 2003 with the 49ers that Garcia has begun an offseason with the team he played for in the previous season. After bouncing to the Browns, Lions and Eagles in consecutive seasons, he finally found a home under Gruden in Tampa Bay.

In 2007, Garcia completed 209 of 307 passes for 2,440 yards with 13 touchdowns and four interceptions for a passer rating of 94.6.

Garcia said he has a chance to build upon the success he enjoyed in the team's offense a year ago.

"My head was swimming," Garcia said. "When I heard the terminology (last year), I was still trying to figure it all out. And I'm not at that point.

"So now I can take off from where I am now and build upon that. And going into the season, I just feel I'll be so much more confident and secure as to how to run this system as opposed to where I was last year. And last year, things didn't go all that bad."

Warrick Dunn is a Buc again

According to Adam Schefter of NFL.com and Profootballtalk.com, Warrick Dunn has returned to Tampa Bay. Dunn has signed a two-year, $6 million deal, and it pays $2 million in guaranteed money. Dunn is scheduled to earn $3 million in the first year of the deal. Dunn gives the Bucs a back who might be able to play a full season, a real luxury for a team with Cadillac Williams, who might never be the back he was coming out of Auburn, when he was a top-five pick in 2005, and who is rehabilitating from a ruptured patellar tendon. There are rumors that he might not be able to play in 2008, if ever.

2008 Fantasy Football Mock Draft - PPR League

On a cold, wintry night in Denver, eight fantasy football experts gathered for one of the first Mock Drafts of the 2008 season. They represented a wide variety of backgrounds and companies, each bringing a unique perspective to the drafting process.

The league starts one quarterback, two wide receivers, two running backs, one tight end, one flex (wide receiver or running back), one kicker, and one defense. The league is scored using a standard Yahoo scoring system, with the only exception being all receptions count for one point.

Now, onto the results!

Bucs trade for Bennett to replace broken-down Cadillac

Tampa Bay has finally made a deal to draw in a running back to replace injured back Cadillac Williams. The Buccaneers will give up two draft picks, one in 2008 and one in 2009, for the Chiefs' backup.

Before coming to Kansas City to back up Larry Johnson, Bennett played for the Minnesota Vikings. Bennett has rushed for 3,426 yards and 12 touchdowns in seven NFL seasons. He also has 145 career receptions for 1,164 yards and five touchdowns. He was a Pro Bowler in 2002.

Williams went down with a season-ending knee injury in week three of the season. He was the 2005 Rookie of the Year.

Who Is The NFL's Top Young Back?

A lot of questions are "Who is the best young QB in the league right now?". Well, I'm gonna show some love to the running backs. So the question is...Who is the best young running back in the NFL? To be considered "young", under my qualifications, this season must be the 3rd year of your NFL career or younger. So here are my candidates:

Reggie Bush, Saints
Joseph Addai, Colts
Laurence Maroney
Adrian Peterson, Vikings
Marshawn Lynch, Bills
Maurice Jones-Drew, Jaguars
Cadillac Williams, Bucs
Ronnie Brown, Dolphins
Frank Gore, 49ers (Wow!, didn't know this is only his 3rd year and was a 3rd rounder)
Cedric Benson, Bears

As for my pick, I'll take Gore, Addai, and then Adrian. Gore showed he's one of the NFL's elite backs last year, Addai has been solid and was the only rookie for over 1000 rushing yards last year, and Peterson's been great so far and has such a high ceiling, but I have questions about his health so I'll take the safer picks.

If you think I'm missing a back who belongs, let me know!

Bucs looking for replacement while Cadillac sits in garage

After Tampa Bay running back Carnell (Cadillac) Williams went down with a season-knee injury Sunday, the Buccaneers started looking for a team interested in trading for the hurt back.

They are looking at the Vikings for help. The Bucs asked about Mewelde Moore to replace Cadillac for the year. Minnesota wants a first- and fourth-round pick for Moore, according to ESPN.com. But it's doubtful the Bucs will give that much away for him.

Either way the Vikings are fine. They've got Adrian Peterson who has succeeded very well so far in his rookie campaign. If Minnesota wants a ridiculous return like that for Moore, Tampa better start looking elsewhere.

If nothing else, the Buccaneers do have 10-year veteran Michael Pittman to hand the ball off to.
