After going down one point in the final seconds of a triple overtime game against William & Mary yesterday, Jeremy Lin of Harvard dribbled down the court and hit a prayer of a 3-pointer as time expired for the 87-85 win.
Visit Harvard’s Web site to check this shot out, because it’s not on YouTube and [...]

Harvard guard hits game-winner of the year (so far)

The Ivy League is good for a lot of things. Really smart, driven
people. Button-collar oxford shirts with loosened ties. Blue blazers. Settings for movies about cranky or underdeveloped geniuses.
Somewhere in there is the basketball, which is played at a level just
high enough that if you had the chance to sit down and watch a little
Ivy League, you might be surprised. It's good hoops.
Today, the Ivy League has given us something else: The year's best
buzzer-beater so far. It's a...

Crimson Attack

by Dan Totten
Jeremy Lin. Harvard University Basketball. Admit it. You’ve likely never heard of one and the other is far removed from any semblance of hoop hotbed status. Harvard is also likely far removed from being a possible bracket choice for any NCAA Tournament predictions you might be inclined to make for this season.
While you may not pencil in Harvard as one of your predictions to make the NCAA tournament, if you get the opportunity to see Jeremy Lin play basketball for Harvard this ...

Okay, this is going to be the culmination of three weeks of ridiculous speed typing. One man. 347 teams. My goal. Hope and faith for all. But before we get started three ground rules. 1) It's one man typing 347 paragraphs with no research team. I am bound to make errata in these posts. Let me know and I will fix them. 2) I try and avoid the obvious. So you know what that means? If you're Luke Harangody, you may not make the list.
Boston College ’09-10 Preview

by Dan Totten
The Farmer’s Almanac predicts the winter of ‘09-10 to be yet another storm ridden debacle throughout Boston and New England.
Given that prediction, perhaps when Boston College visit St.Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands on November 20 for the Paradise Jam Tournament, the Eagles should consider signing themselves into a Caribbean witness relocation program. A true escape once they complete that tournament is right at hand since the team could hop a 15-minute speedboat to Tor...

Boston College Stunned by Harvard

Enhanced Box Score

In a lackluster performance the Boston College Eagles fell at home to their cross-town opponents Harvard 82-70. Boston College struggled to shrug off the emotional high of defeating North Carolina and was outplayed by Harvard in all facets of the game. It was obvious the team was feeling the hangover effects of the huge upset the previous game. The Eagles lacked energy and focus tonight and this was clear throughout the game.

BC played very poor team defense from start to finish and each player was consistently beat off the dribble. The Eagles had no answer for Harvard guard Jeremy Lin. Lin was a one-man wrecking crew for Harvard; he scored 27 points to go along with 8 assists, and played lockdown defense on Rice. Skinner used a combination of defenders on Lin, but neither Rice, Sanders, Raji, or Jackson could not slow him down.

BC was slow in transition and gave up easy buckets to Harvard, which allowed them to build up and maintain their lead. BC allowed several full-court assists by Lin, which resulted in uncontested layups for the Crimson. Part of the problem was the Boston College defenders were over-aggressive when trying to block shot attempts and go for steals instead of moving their feet. As a result, BC was frequently caught out of position and Harvard was able to shoot 50% for the game, including 61% in the second half. Rakim Sanders, just days removed from his spectacular effort against UNC was benched and barely saw the floor in the second half after getting beat numerous times in the first half.

Offensively, BC looked sloppy and lackadaisical from the start. They committed 16 turnovers in the game, which is above their season average per game. The offense was stagnant and could not get into any sort of rhythm. They made only 2 of 13 three-point attempts and never developed a post presence, despite a significant size advantage. The offense failed to generate open looks and there was little movement around the basket.

As usual, Raji played solid, scrappy basketball with 14 points and 8 rebounds. Reggie Jackson struggled shooting (4-11 from the field) but was one of the few players on BC, along with Raji, who hustled and maintained his intensity for the duration of the game. He also handled some point guard duties briefly and looked pretty comfortable. Trapani struggled to find his outside shot and went 6-16 from the field (12 points) to go along with 9 boards.

Tyrese Rice struggled with 5 turnovers and only 3 assists. He managed to finish with 14 points before fouling out late, although 11 of those came within the final 4 minutes. Rice was held in check primarily by Harvard’s Jeremy Lin and he settled for some difficult shots in traffic. The team, in particular Rice, showed no emotion this game, even when the crowd tried to will the team back into the game mid way through the second half.

Boston College looks to bounce back this Saturday when they host Atlantic Coast Conference foe Miami at 7pm. The loss drops BC to 13-3 on the year, while Harvard improves to 8-6.

America East: Almost a Power Conference! (Thoughts 12/5)

So lots of good stuff has happened this week. The AE is 7-1 so far! The RPI stands at 12, AHEAD of the Colonial and the MAAC! Woo! Suck one "superior conferences"!!

Anyways, Vermont gave Dartmouth a nice kick in the pants, pulling away big time in the second half of the game. Three Catamounts combined for 69 of the 88 points. Nice. Dartmouth's Alex Barnett lit them up yet again though, thankfully this time, he lost (I think he scored 27 or something last year when UVM lost to the Big Green). Barnett is a damn good player if you have never seen him. He would be all-conference first team in the AE. My sources tell me however that because he is black, has tattoos and dreadlocks, some UVM fans instantly labeled him a thug. Classy. These are the same people who boo Mike Lonergan at games and essentially want to see him fail, and when the team gets up big they still make fun and resort to making terrible remarks about his wife and children. The person who told me this would never lie to me (except that one time YOU KNOW WHAT I AM TALKING ABOUT!). I have to say, that is awfully low, to bring the man's family into it because you simply don't like the guy. If you dislike him so much, why do you go to the games? From what I'm told, nobody would miss this bunch, in fact, there might be a parade and fireworks if they never come back to games.

Vermont gets Pitt Saturday. Keep that under 20, and I consider it a success.

Stony Brook did the league the ultimate favor. They did not lose to NJIT. Dewy (get it! DUI...Duh-ew-iii! Awful joke, I'm sorry) Adedeji returned to action playing six minutes. World-breaker Tommy Brenton only had 8 points and 5 rebounds. I am saddened. Some guy named Bryan Dougher scored 24. That much closer to breaking the school scoring record...which everyone loves to hear come from their point guards right?

Last night, UNH finally did some good and squeaked out a win against Colgate. That will happen when you shoot 50% from three. However, if you keep shooting 38% from the floor and don't make half your long range shots, consider yourself a loser (of the game).

BU dispatched a pretty good Harvard team. I mean, Harvard has like the best Asian college basketball of all time, so says Ricky Ricardo, in Jeremy Lin. Knocking off a team with that guy? Good job Terriers. The three headed monster that is Corey Lowe, John Holland and Jake O'Brien were all sex on fire. Hopefully they snag a win against Marshall and keep the AE dominance (2-0) of the MAC up.

UMBC pooped the bed against Towson for the only defeat of the week thus far. GEE THANKS GUYS! Well, really, shooting as bad as they did (32%FG, 18%3PT 60%FT), doesn't win. Don't know what to say other than the Retrievers were just bad.

Hartford gained some redemption tonight. Not only did they win against Lafayette, but they actually tied a team in total rebounds. Considering where they have been so far this season, that is a giant step. They also had a night where they shot the ball very well, 55% from both the field and three. Hopefully this is a confidence booster for them. La Salle will be tough, but they are a very beatable team, and they are probably going to want to get some wins before they go play Baylor and Stanford. Then again, Yale played Stanford close and Vermont ass-smoked them, and I think Hartford is a lot better than Yale, so the Hawks have a fighting chance.

Maine stat padded an entire game by playing some local dump in the pants D3 team and beating them 126-50. Their freshman walk on, Ryan Martin led eight scorers in double figures with 20. Troy Barnies grabbed 20 rebounds and had 16 points, while three other players had double doubles. 70 rebounds as a team. Enjoy that box score Maine. Isle-Presque is no Oklahoma, or Colgate for that matter.

The important part here is that the league is winning. And that someone else writes about it and mentions me in their article.
