The Vikings most decorated player, guard Steve Hutchinson, has been shut out of two midseason All-Pro teams.

Sports Illustrated and Pro Football Weekly both left Hutchinson, a six-time Pro Bowl and a five-time All-Pro selection, off their respective lists.

Sports Illustrated selected Jahri Evans of the New Orleans Saints and Chris Kemoeatu of the Pittsburgh Steelers, while Pro Football Weekly selected Evans and Ben Grubbs of the Baltimore Ravens.

Hutchinson has made every start this season...

Between the Lines: Who Sends the House and Who Plays It Safe?

by JJ CooperFiled under: Jets, Saints, NFL AnalysisEvery week we analyze line play in a new Between The Lines feature. In watching line play around the league, it's obvious that there's more than one way to pressure the quarterback. The Jets and Eagles generate pressure with confusion. Teams don't know if they're sending three or eight and they don't know where they will be coming from. The Vikings send their front four most of the time, but with Jared Allen and Kevin Willi...

What an exciting weekend of football ahead of fans of the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Minnesota Vikings. Two of the NFL's most historic and storied franchises squaring off in an October showdown of teams with Super Bowl aspirations. I'm going to leave much of my analysis of the game for a bit later in the week, but I wanted to begin by laying out what some of the key matchups will be on both sides of the ball. From there, you all (and hopefully Vikings fans as well) jump in and le...

Court: NFL can't suspend Vikings' All-Pro DTs

A federal appeals court says the NFL can't suspend Minnesota Vikings Pat Williams and Kevin Williams for violating the league's anti-doping policy.

The decision came Friday, two days before the Viking open the season at Cleveland. The NFL had cleared the two to play Sunday, but the court fight was still pending.

The NFL wanted to suspend the Williamses for four games after they both tested positive for a banned diuretic during training camp in 2008.

Lots and lots of lineman news coming out of Vikingland the past few days...* The big news is that Kevin Williams and Pat Williams are very likely off the legal hook, at least in terms of their availability for 2009. Fuhrer Goodell is likely outraged at the outcome, but Viking fans are licking their chops at the likelihood of having the Williams Wall for all of 2009 -- until Pat Williams trips over himself in a mad rush to the buffet line.* Jared Allen knows how to live.
Judge blocks suspensions of Kevin, Pat Williams

A judge has blocked NFL plans to suspend Minnesota Vikings players Kevin Williams and Pat Williams.
Hennepin County District Judge Gary Larson on Thursday granted the players' motion for a temporary restraining order. That keeps the NFL from suspending them until their case is decided.
That may be a while. The judge also scheduled a hearing for July 22 on whether he should put state court proceedings on hold while a federal appeals court considers other issues in the case.
