<title>Woods to Get His Shot This Year for Champion Pats?</title>
<description>One player that seems to be getting a great opportunity at Pats camp so far is third-year linebacker Pierre Woods. With LB Mike Vrabel on the PUP list, Woods is getting a shot to be a big name player for New England this year and contribute to a defense that is looking to get younger.
"Pierre had another good offseason this year," Belichick said. "I thought he did a good job in the spring, and sometimes it's hard to tell when exactly that experience really transfers to confidence and aggressiveness and performance on the field. That's where it looks like he's headed this year in training camp. He's playing with a lot of confidence, both in the running game and the passing game. We know he's athletic from his play on special teams and he's taking this opportunity to get a little more playing time in camp."
Last season Woods was mostly a special teamer, as he played in 16 games, making 22 tackles, but says that this past offseason he put in the extra work to make sure that he will be on the field playing defense, not just kickoffs and punts. "I'm into hard work and hard work is paying off," Woods said. "I'm out there willing to learn and to work hard and be coachable."
Woods is 6-foot-5, 250, and had four solid years at Michigan, but was mostly an unknown coming out of school. It may be what keeps him going, as fighting with five rookie linebackers along with a core of veterans, Woods cannot afford to sit back and rest on the fact he's getting more work.
"He's still got a long way to go and a lot of things to add," Belichick said. "But Pierre is one of the hardest workers and he tries to do everything right."</description>
