San Francisco 49ers: A.J. Jenkins Looking Like 1st Round Bust

Is A.J. Jenkins a bust? The 1st round draft pick of the 49ers hasn't caught a single pass this year, which is rather glaring given the injuries the team has suffered at the wide receiver position this season. But what can history tell us about Jenkins' prospects? If we look back at other wide receivers previously drafted by the 49ers, those that didn't get off to a hot start rarely became respectable receivers later on in their career.Below is a table showing rookie year performance by wide receivers drafted by the 49ers over the past 11 years. Some names will obviously stand out, such as Brandon Lloyd, Josh Morgan, and Michael Crabtree, all of whom have emerged as decent wide receivers in the NFL. Morgan and Lloyd currently play with other teams, while Crabtree still plays for the 49ers and is having a stellar year. 49er Wide Receiver Draft Picks - Rookie Year StatsYearRoundFirst NameLast NameReceptionsYardsTDs20121A.J.Jenkins00020116RonaldJohnson00020106KyleWillia...

Josh Henson, Andy Hill promoted on Tiger staff

Courtesy: Mizzou Athletics

COLUMBIA, Mo. University of Missouri Head Football Coach Gary Pinkel today announced promotions for a pair of staff members on the offensive side of the ball. Josh Henson has been named offensive coordinator, and Andy Hill has been named associate head coach, and will now coach quarterbacks.

Henson, 37, has been Mizzous co-offensive line coach since joining the MU staff from LSU prior to the 2009 season. Six of his offensive line pupils at MU have won all-star honors nine times in his tenure, including the most recent being true freshman guard Evan Boehm, who was named a 1st-Team Freshman All-American by College Football News following the recently completed season. Mizzous offensive line helped pave the way to a conference team rushing title in 2011 (ranking 9th nationally), and also to a final national rank of 12th in total offense (475.54 ypg).

Hill, 50, just finished his 17th season on the Tiger sideline. Hill has a long-standing track record of coaching and recruiting succe

Stewart at the center of No. 24 Cowboys' pass game

(Eds: Updates. With AP Photos.) Justin Blackmon used to line up one-on-one against a defender, a threat to go deep at just about any moment or outjump a cornerback for a touchdown when Oklahoma State got near the goal line.

It was much the same for Dez Bryant and Rashaun Woods before him, establishing a mold for Cowboys receivers bound to become first-round NFL draft picks.

Josh Stewart is approaching the big-time numbers of the talented receivers preceding him, but in a far different way. He's going right through the heart of opposing defenses.

Entering Saturday's regular-season finale at Baylor (6-5, 3-5 Big 12), the 5-foot-10 Stewart leads No. 24 Oklahoma State (7-4, 5-3) with 84 catches for 1,007 yards and six touchdowns while playing out of the slot. Only Blackmon, Bryant and Woods have caught more passes in a season with the Cowboys.

Todd Monken: We'll Be Looking For Balance

When the Oklahoma State Cowboys rolled over Oklahoma 38-28 on Lewis Field back in 2002, then wide receivers coach Todd Monken was beside himself. He couldn't believe the Cowboys had not only beaten Oklahoma but offensively they dominated the Sooners, primarily because Rashaun Woods, the player he coached could not be stopped. Heck, the joke then and now is that Woods is still open.

Terrell Owens Continues To Tarnish Legacy

Terrell Owens is akin to a dumpster fire. Just when you thought Owens had hit rock bottom, the former wide receiver/diva/sociopath managed to throw more gasoline on the fire that is his life.

The Philadelphia Inquirer is reporting that a woman is trying to sell photos that show Owens making lewd gestures during a Skype conversation he had with her.

Naturally, Owens is claiming he's the victim here, alleging that the woman in question is trying to extort money from him, yet all this incident proves is that the 38-year-old Owens is still a mistake waiting to happen.

Some fans may feel sorry for Owens or even think he deserves another shot in the NFL, but he doesn't.

Owens has, is, and probably forever will be a pariah to anyone that crosses paths with him.

This is the guy that pushed the great Jerry Rice out of San Francisco. This is the guy that spread false rumors that his former quarterback Jeff Garcia was a homosexual. This is the guy who earned a season-long su...

Quick Take: Early 1st Round Winners and Losers

NFL Draft 1st Round Winners and Losers
The NFL Draft was a whirlwind of excitement. The trades, picks and talking-heads couldn’t seem to all keep up with one another. At one point there were 3 picks selected and the evaluations were still fighting commercial breaks. Overall, I thought nearly all the teams started out great and I’m pumped for days 2 and 3. I was busy running my mouth on twitter and plan to continue for both remaining NFL Draft days, follow us! I don’t report the news, I add insight and insults.
The following teams made my “quick take” Winners and Losers list based on value.
Winners
The St.Louis Rams are on pace to rebuild an entire roster with the high number of picks they acquired to simply trade down twice. After fleecing Washington, the Rams moved down again and still found serious value snagging DT Micahel Brockers. St.Louis had so many needs it’s hard to argue that they couldn’t simply trade down a third time. Adding Brockers helps boast a struggling defensive line that fa

NFL Draft: 10 Biggest Wide Receiver Busts in the Last 20 Years

Honorable Mention: Travis Taylor (BALT), Troy Edwards (PITT), Thomas Lewis (NYG), RaShaun Woods (SF), Rae Carruth (CAR)

10. Sylvester Morris - 2000 - 21st to KC

Sylvester Morris was drafted 21st overall by the Kansas Chiefs in the 2000 NFL Draft. An FCS-school product, Morris was a productive and dominant player at Jackson State. Although raw like many small-school alumni, Morris was a big target with loads of potential. The Chiefs selected Morris ahead of future Pro Bowlers Chris Hovan (25th) and Keith Bulluck (30th), hoping he'd turn into a No. 1 wide receiver. Unfortunately, Morris' fate was at the hands of the injury bug.

After a decent rookie season in which he recorded 48 receptions, 678 yards, and 3 touchdowns, Morris never played another down in the NFL. Constant, severe knee injuries forced him out of action for the next three years. In 2004, Morris signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Once again, a nasty knee injury ended his career. Morris played just one year...

Top 10 Draft Mistakes in the Past Decade

The NFL Draft is two weeks away, so we figured we’d compile a list of the top 10 draft mistakes the 49ers have made over the past 10 years. We decided we would only go 10 years back because we figured a player should be able to last 10 years in the league and 10 years is an enough time to at least contribute something.

10. Derrick Hamilton – Hamilton was selected in the 3rd round of the 2004 NFL Draft. He was supposed to be the big body receiver the 49ers were missing. Stats: 2 games, 0 receptions
9. Andrew Williams – Williams was a 3rd pick in the 2003 Draft. He was a DE out of Da U. Stats: 9 Games, 10 tackles.
8. Chilo Rachal – Rachal was a 2nd round pick in the 2008 NFL Draft. Rachal was supposed to hold down the RG position for years to come, but Rachal was too soft and couldn’t block well. Rachal did play in 55 games over 4 years, but he never lived up to his potential.
7. Mike Rumph – Rumph was selected 27th overall in the 2002 draft. Rumph lasted 4 years and his best season ...

The 49ers WILL NOT Select A Wide Receiver In The First Round Of The 2012 NFL Draft

The 49ers' most glaring weakness is obvious even to the most naked of eyes, they need recievers. They've needed receivers, and most experts and fans alike expect a first round draft pick to be spent on one without hesitation. But Bill Walsh once said, "You don’t solve the receiver problem until everything else is fixed.”

Coach of the Year Jim Harbaugh has been compared to Walsh again and again due to his quick success with San Francisco and Stanford ties. But it is the management of Trent Baalke that most compares to the legendary coach. Many people fail to realize that Wlash was not only a coach, but a general manager in his time with the Niners. In the 13 seasons he spent as the Niners head coach and general manager, Walsh used one first- or second-round pick on a wide receiver.

That one pick? After just dominating the Dolphins in the Super Bowl by 22 points(i.e. everything else fixed), San Francisco traded up in the draft to select Jerry Rice... so that worked pr...

2012 Draft Prospect: Justin Blackmon

With the deadline for underclassmen to declare behind us it’s time to start focusing on the 2012 NFL Draft. One of the more intriguing prospects is Oklahoma State wide receiver Justin Blackmon. After setting numerous school, conference and NCAA records over the course of the past two seasons, Blackmon has emerged as the top prospect at the wide receiver position. But some wonder if Blackmon will be more like Oklahoma State wide receivers of the past, who put huge numbers on the collegiate level but flopped in the pros.

After torching the Stanford Cardinal in the Fiesta Bowl to the tune of 191 yards and three touchdowns, Justin Blackmon made known what everyone thought and declared himself eligible for the 2012 NFL Draft. Coming off another recording breaking season in which he caught 122 passes for 1,522 receiving yards and eighteen touchdowns and leading Oklahoma St. to their first ever BCS Bowl win, the choice was an obvious one. The redshirt junior’s career totals are 252 ...

Blackmon expected to head for NFL

Even sitting behind a table, Justin Blackmon looks the part of the nation's best receiver.

Graceful and confident, Blackmon is almost coiled into the chair, appearing as if he's about to spring up to blow past a defender or power through a tackler at any moment.

He's even more impressive on the field and in film.

''When you watch him move, that power and strength, (it's) that one step at full speed and he can still power through things,'' Stanford co-defensive coordinator Jason Carver said Thursday. ''He looks bigger than he is because he's so strong and so powerful.''

Blackmon likely will make his last appearance in an Oklahoma State uniform Monday night against Stanford in the Fiesta Bowl.

He's already alluded to ''taking the next step'' and was even recognized during the Cowboys' Senior Day, so yeah, he's all but gone.

Blackmon leaves as possibly the most talented receiver at a school that's had some stellar ones in r

Random Athlete Of The Day- Rashaun Woods

Rashaun Woods is from Oklahoma City, and played college football for the Oklahoma State Cowboys. The 6-2 202 pound receiver caught touchdowns like he was Justin Blackmon. His Sophomore year he has 80 receptions for 1,023 yards and 10 touchdowns. In Woods’ Junior year he made the All-American Team, the dude had 1,695 yards off of 107 receptions, and caught 17 touchdowns. He couldn’t top his amazing previous season his Senior year, but he still managed to catch 15 touchdowns.

The San Francisco 49ers drafted Rashaun Woods 31st overall in the 2004 NFL Draft. Woods joined receiving core alongside Brandon Lloyd, Arnaz Battle, Curtis Walker, and Cedric Wilson with Tim Rattay and Ken Dorsey at quarterback. Consequently Woods had 7 receptions for 160 yards and 1 touchdown. The next season he sat out with torn ligaments in his thumb, and then was traded in 2006 to the Chargers for cornerback Sammy Davis. Later that year he was cut, and then claimed by the Broncos…but then failed his physical...
