A no-show performance -- again

The Jets' locker room today resembled the pass defense in yesterday's loss to the Patriots -- lots of empty space.

Less than a dozen players made an appearances in the locker room during the media period, hardly a strong showing of accountability. Those who stopped to be interviewed were Kellen Clemens, Jerricho Cotchery, Damien Woody, Braylon Edwards, Bart Scott (briefly), James Dearth and David Clowney. I may have a missed a couple of players, but you get the drift.

Jets inactives: Leonard, Woody good to go

Last night, Jets RT Damien Woody, a guy known well around here, fell ill and was added to the team's injury report. Looks like he'll start today. That's not a surprise. But this is -- S Jim Leonard, who was...

Breaking down Jets vs. Patriots

Before we get to the six-pack analysis, a tiny bit of news: The Jets added RT Damien Woody (illness) to the injury report tonight as probable.

I was talking to former Jets great Curtis Martin the other day, and we were on the subject of coaches getting emotional in front of their teams. I asked him if Bill Parcells ever choked up, and Martin couldn't recall any episodes. He said Parcells might have become emotional in "more intimate settings," but not in front of the team.

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. -- Damien Woody's been on both sides of this. He's here in New Jersey now, playing for a team runs its mouth as well as it runs the ball. But he was brought to this place...

Strong Men Also Cry. Strong ... Men ... Also ... Cry

Rex Ryan is decidedly entrenched in the camp of coaches who wear their emotions on their sleeve. He gets visibly exercised on the sidelines. He encourages trash talking from his players. He engages in trash talk himself. He's very much into the game.

With the Jets having dropped five of their last six after a hot start, Ryan wasn't likely to bottle up his frustration. No, he was going to storm into team headquarters, stare his players down and let loose with a fierce outpouring of .....

The Jets are powered by Rex Ryan's tears

A
head coach in the NFL could do worse than having a lot in common with Dick
Vermeil. Rex Ryan's head coaching career is still in its infancy, but one thing
we know he does have in common with Vermeil is that he's a crier.
Ryan stood in front of his team on Monday morning and, for the second time
this season, bawled like a little girl with a skinned knee. Mark
Cannizzaro of the New York Post tells us that the tears moved and motivated the
team.
The memorable moment simultaneousl...

Jets vs. Bills: Game Breakdown & Five Requests For Five Jets

First a few updates:
1. Jerricho Cotchery, Damien Woody, Brad Smith, and Shaun Ellis all sat out practice again today. Ellis and Woody are expected to start, Smith is questionable and I wouldn’t bet on Cotcherysuiting up this weekend. If both Smith and Cotchery are down, the Jets will only be carrying three receivers on Sunday: [...]

Buffalo weather in Florham Park

In cold and raindy conditions today at the FloP, the same four injured players remained on the sideline: WR Jerricho Cotchery (hamstring), WR Brad Smith (quadriceps), RT Damien Woody (foot) and DE Shaun Ellis (knee).

The awful elements should be a good prep for Sunday's game at the Meadowlands, where the weather is expected to be cold (a high of 49 degree) and rainy. It'll be interesting to see how it affects QB Mark Sanchez. At USC, he never played in a game where the temperature ...

'What If' Scenarios

So moving towards Monday nights showdown in Miami we have been greeted tonight with an injury report that makes me a little bit nervous. Not so much with the player that is out (Donald Strickland) but with the players that are questionable, most notably Jerricho Cotchery and in particular Damien Woody.
So god forbid one or both of them are unable to play, what happens? where do we turn? and will it be suitable replacements?
Well let's take Jerricho Cotchery first, and although he mi...

Jets story lines

Desperation time for Titans Starting off the season with successive losses usually kills a team's playoffs hopes, and beginning with three straight losses can be downright catastrophic. That's why the Jets will get everything the Titans have and then some when the teams meet at the Meadowlands on Sunday. "A lot of 0-3 teams, their chances of making the playoffs are slim to none," right tackle Damien Woody said. "So those guys are going to be coming in hungry, ready to ...
