Mariners finally announce minor league trade; Corcoran signs minor-league deal with Houston

The Royals can be seen taking batting practice in the photo above. A couple of moves we told you about last night were officially announced by the team today. The Mariners have sent Class A infielder Deybis Benitez to the Pirates for Class AAA reliever Mike Koplove.
Also, Roy Corcoran has signed a minor league deal with the Houston Astros -- news we broke on the blog last night -- and will report to their Class AAA affiliate.
Koplove, 32, has had 222 relief appearances over seven major leagu...

Report: Astros sign relief pitcher Roy Corcoran

This twitter message from the Mariners' beat writer says the Astros signed relief pitcher Roy Corcoran, whom was released by the Mariners after refusing a minor league assignment. This seems OK if it is a minor league deal, but the fact that Corcoran left the Mariners because he wanted to stay in the majors makes me wonder if he will soon be on the Astros roster. Corcoran is a heavy groundball pitcher who walks too many batters, doesn't strike out many batters, and has...

Astros To Sign Roy Corcoran

Geoff Baker of the Seattle Times reports that the Astros will sign Roy Corcoran, who just became a free agent. The 29-year-old righty became a free agent after refusing an assignment to the Mariners' Triple A team. He allowed 25 hits in 19 innings with the Mariners and walked about three times as many batters (17) as he struck out (6).The Mariners designated Corcoran for assignment late last month.

Corcoran clears way for Rowland-Smith

Roy Corcoran has pitched more than 300 minor league games in his career and doesn’t want to pitch another – which means his days as a Seattle Mariners reliever probably ended Friday.
Making room on their 25-man roster for starting pitcher Ryan Rowland-Smith, the Mariners designated the 29-year-old Corcoran for assignment, meaning the team can trade him, release him or offer him a job in the minors if he clears waivers.

Relief pitcher Roy Corcoran the latest Mariners player to step up big

This is what happens to teams that suddenly find themselves angling for a playoff berth. Guys start to perform in ways not expected. Hitters not known for hitting suddenly do. A team not known for drawing walks suddenly takes five of them, including three in the ninth to win the game 3-2 over the Boston Red Sox.
And yeah, while Red Sox reliever Takashi Saito couldn't find the strike zone, how many times the past few years have the Mariners swung away wildly in any event?
Nope, these are ...

Time To Say Goodbye To Roy Corcoran

Last year, the Mariners got 73 good innings out of Roy Corcoran. He was a poor man’s Sean Green, throwing a nasty sinker that got a ton of groundballs and allowed him to pitch his way around some command problems. However, very few pitchers can survive a pitch to contact strategy if they [...]--
