Texas Pitchers' Rate Lines and Hitter Counterparts

Once again, I've turned every Texas pitcher’s performance into a comparable batter. Below are the opposing batting lines and percentages of homers, walks and strikeouts for every Ranger pitcher who pitched at least 10 innings. The three hitters who most closely match that line are listed to the right. Just in case you're curious, I determined comparability by calculating differences in average, on-base percentage, slugging, homer rate, walk rate, and strikeout rate between each ...

Fall-ing Down: Halloween at the Arizona Fall League

Hey, Phillies and Yankees! Wouldn't you rather be playing here?
Much though Fox and ESPN would have you think otherwise, the World Series isn't the only professional baseball going on in the United States. Even as we head in November, the Arizona Fall League gives us lucky folk here in the state a chance to see the future stars of tomorrow, with all thirty major-league teams sending some of their top prospects to take part. Names you might know who've previously played in the A...

The Pirates just added Anthony Claggett to their roster, so he could make his debut with the club tonight, according to Dejan Kovacevic of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
The Pirates won't bring back coach Rich Donnelly.
On the weekend, Bob Nightengale of USA Today reported (via Twitter) that the D'Backs will listen to offers for Stephen Drew. Nightengale says the club wants pitching and sugg...

Stephen Drew to Boston? Yes, please

I know, I know... we need to stay focused on 2009. The Sawx need to do what they can to win the World Series. Even after a demoralizing series to the Yankees, I feel the team has a great chance of picking up that crown. However... we gotta talk about 2010.

Bob Nightengale of USA Today said that the Diamondbacks plan on shopping shortstop Stephen Drew, with the Red Sox expected to make contact. 'Zona will seek pitching.

Pedro Martinez's CBP Debut Cut Short

Pedro started off his CBP debut by giving up a cheapish HR to Stephen Drew on the first at bat of the game. He settled down a bit from there, worked a double play, and got out of the first with only the one run on the board. He worked quick in the second, highlighted by an absolutely nasty breaking ball to get Rusty Ryal looking. He had another fairly easy go of it in the third and then the skies opened up and told Pedro that they'd like to see Grandpa Moyer on this evening. That was it ...

Why is Stephen Drew Available in 75% of ESPN Leagues?

"...The 16 strikeouts were all well and dandy until Drew hit a walkoff 2-run ninth inning bomb off Hoffman, his first homer of the year. Drew was often drafted among the top 10-11 shortstops before the season started, and has made his way to many a waiver wire since then, batting only .224 thus far.

The homer was an encouraging sign, though, as is his 1.1 BB/K ratio. I had him ranked as the 14th shortstop in the pre-season, and still think he can reach the .284/16/66 line that I projected for him then. His contact rate of nearly 87%, combined with a low BABIP suggest that he'll be hitting like expected some time soon. In 674 minor league at-bats, he hit .315 with 31 HR and 121 RBI to go along nicely with a .385 OBP. As he's only 25% owned in ESPN leagues, now might be as good a time as ever to nab him."
