Gaslamp Ball Proclamation: Tony Gwynn to only be referred to as Anthony Gwynn Jr. until his first .300 BA season

Gaslamp Ball will occasionally provide endorsements and judgments in the world of baseball and beyond. Should Gaslamp Ballers need to cast a vote or require an official opinion, look for Gaslamp Ball Proclamations first to see what our official stance is. Thank you.It has come to our attention that there are those who refer to Anthony Keith Gwynn Jr. as "Tony Gwynn Jr." or even "Tony Gwynn" despite the fact that the real Tony Gwynn is a Hall of Fame, career .338 hi...

Dex was just showing me this website that figures out an anagram for your name. I decided to do it for each of the Padres. Surprisingly in some cases the anagram actually describes the person. It's remarkable!

I was waiting in my car for about a half hour yesterday and was a little bored. I looked around my car and saw a Padres Magazine under my passenger seat. When we were hangin' with Tom Garfinkel I asked if we could grab one since they were all over the Padres offices. I've always wanted to take a look at one but never wanted to spe...

Lazy Saturday Ex-Brewers Update

On this "unseasonably cool" (a.k.a. comfortable) Saturday in Wisconsin, why not take a look at the way 2009 is going for some Brewers who got away. I could post about guys like Anthony Gwynn, Gabe Kapler, Gabe Gross, and Russell Branyan in the majors, but I want to focus on some of the lesser lights:

Chris BarnwellBarnwell, called up to Milwaukee for one month in 2006, spent 2008 in Albuquerque for the Marlins and also plays for Team Canada. This year, he started in Houston b...

Caption/Photoshop/Comic Contest with no prize but a slap on the back

Channel 4 ran some video of HOF Tony the Gwynn talking to Young Anthony Gwynn Jr. during batting practice last week. I got a screen grab and I was going to work with Dex's software to make it into a comic, but it feels like he's never coming back, so I'll open it up to you.
Who can come up with the best caption, photoshop picture or comic blurbs for the following picture:

I was just going to photoshop a hamburger into Tony the Gwynn's hands, but that's ...

Examining Bobby Heck's Drafts With Milwaukee

Bobby Heck was the director of scouting and drafting for Milwaukee from 1999 - 2007, credited for building their farm. At this time, 7 of the players on the 25 man roster were drafted by Heck (Bill Hall is also home grown, but was drafted the year before Heck arrived.) It is actually 8, but Rickie Weeks is on the DL. I am only discussing, by the way, players picked in the draft, not FA whether or not they are from Japan, Latin America, Australia, MLB or signed 6 year minor leaguers, not playe...

Brewers bats, not Dave Bush, cost team the victory

People are going to look at the box score and see that Dave Bush took the loss on Thursday night and immediately put the blame on him. While he did only pitch five innings and gave up nine hits and six runs, Bush showed positive signs by not walking anybody. After giving up a two-run home run to Jason Bay in the fourth, Bush appeared visibly shaken and was never able to recover.

Brewers CF for the first 25 games

Looking at who will make the final spots of the Milwaukee Brewers 25-man roster, someone has to play Center Field while Mike Cameron is suspended. There are a variety of options including Gabe Gross, Tony Gwynn Jr., Joe Dillon, and Gabe Kapler.

Tony Gwynn Jr Looking at September Callup

The 23 year old Gwynn should find himself in the mix for AB's in Milwaukee come September. He's hitting .300 with 25 SB's in Nashville and was 7-15 in limited time with the Brewers earlier this year. He'll fight for time with veteran Geoff Jenkins, Corey Hart, and Gabe Gross.

Before the season, Gwynn looked to be no more of a future 4th outfielder, hitting .271 in Double-A Nashville in 2005 after hitting .243 at the same level the year before. That could change as he's currently having his best year as a professional. He's probably going to find himself buried on the depth chart behind Hart and Gross, but that could change if the Brewers fall out of the race in the next few weeks.
