Players A to Z, Matt Albers

Matt Albers pitches in relief for the Baltimore Orioles. At this point in his career, he’s faced a few more batters in relief than as a starter (scroll to the bottom of the table). The difference between the two roles for him are in his home runs and walks. He allows home runs [...]

Eleven Losses in a Row...

I don't know what to say about the Orioles anymore. As much as an optimist as I am, while showing some cynicism, it is pretty much destined that the Orioles will lose 100 games in 2009? As the Orioles left Cleveland over the weekend, they arrived in Tampa Bay, this time to face the Rays; however, despite having a 6-3 lead in the 7th inning, they found another way to lose. On Monday, they lost 7-6, only after reliever Matt Albers gave up a three-run homer to Willy Aybar in the seventh, and...

Orioles Take Two of Three From Rangers

The Orioles bats came through on Sunday, and Jeremy Guthrie delivered on the mound throwing seven shutout innings to defeat the Rangers, 7-0. With the 'B' team on the field in yesterday's game, Chad Moeller came through with a 2-for-4 say with two RBIs, and Ty Wigginton had three hits. Recent callup Jeff Fiorentino had two RBIs as well as Brian Roberts. Guthrie earned his 10th win on the year and struck out six while allowing six hits. Matt Albers and Kam Mickolio helped complete ...

Click Here for Photo Set: LinkAfter staging thee comebacks -- including scoring twice during the eighth and ninth innings -- what could have been a very memorable became a disaster of epic proportions as the Oriole bullpen (Matt Albers and Brian Bass) gave up nine runs in the top of the 13th inning and lost 17-9.I have no idea what to even think about this loss, it was awesome to see the team fight, and then to see Baltimore lose so badly -- moreso, tragically -- considering the tightrope tha...

Play it again: Angels 9, Orioles 6

WALKING FINE LINE Orioles pitchers issued eight walks, and half of those base runners came around to score. Four of the walks were handed out by starter Rich Hill, who lasted 5 1/3 innings. Matt Albers relieved him and surrendered two walks in two-thirds of an inning. Chris Ray then entered a tie game with the bases loaded and no outs in the seventh inning and walked the only two batters he faced, bringing in two runs.

Reimold's blast lifts Orioles over Nats

He hits go-ahead HR in 5th, then 'pen closes door

When Matt Albers jogged in from the bullpen in the worst spot that a reliever possibly could be thrust into, he told himself he would be perfectly content giving up one run. Sure, that would have meant the Orioles had lost the lead and Jeremy Guthrie's perseverance after an ugly first inning would result only in a no-decision.

Eaton Released?

The No. 24 locker is conspicuous by its absence in the visiting clubhouse at Nationals Park.
Adam Eaton no longer is with the Orioles. An announcement should be coming shortly that he’s been released.
We believe that the Orioles have recalled Matt Albers from Triple-A Norfolk to give them an extra reliever for this series. He hasn’t [...]

Open Starting Spot. Adam Jones Is A Beast.

With Eaton’s release made official, the Orioles called up Matt Albers from Triple-A. This creates an open spot in the rotation, like Michael wrote about earlier. The question though, is who will fill it. It seems like the coaching staff doesn’t have much faith in Mark Hendrickson, so let’s discuss some scenarios.

The simplest one: Hendrickson [...]

Baltimore Looking Very Smart These Days

The Miguel Tejada trade looks smarter and smarter every day. Terrell Suggs is playing nice and attending minicamp even though he's been franchised and isn't under contract. Steve McNair is hanging up the cleats and freeing up some cap space. All in all it's a rare great day to be a Baltimore fan.
