Fantasy Baseball - Win Now

Here's some quick adds for an August fantasy baseball playoff push…

1) Adam Jones, Baltimore - Can you say five tool stud? Jones is what fantasy dreams are made of and has a .314 batting average since May, hitting his first career grand slam in the sixth inning on Monday against the Yankees. Jones was the key player in the trade that sent Bedard to the Mariners and is starting to pay dividends for the O's. Grab him now.

2) Ian Stewart, Colorado - The 2003 first round pick of the Colorado Rockies (10th overall) is finally getting regular playing time. Better yet, due to a myriad of injuries in the Colorado infield, Stewart now qualifies at second base. Stewart has good power and balls fly out of Coors field in August!

Hottest Hitters Since the All Star Break

Because this is only a 3 or 4 game sample size, we are seeing players who would not normally make it onto this list. You should also take into account, the lesser amount of games when you look at the table below, remember, this is only over 3 or 4 games.

Topping out this shortened week's list is Baltimore 3B Melvin Mora who hit 3 HRs in that short period of time while hitting .400 with an OBP of .500. If the O's are going to be sellers by the trade deadline, Mora might look real good to a team like the Twins or Dodgers who need a solid player at 3B.Another surprise to this list is National's LF Willie Harris who hit for an average of .583 and an OBP of .688 during these few games since the break. He also hit a HR and stole a base in that span of time. The Mets young 3B, David Wright, keeps on boosting his average back towards .300 while hitting .385 with an OBP of .526 since the All Star Game. He also hit 2 HRs and stole a base as well.Cardinals 3B Troy Glaus is slowing showing the power that management thought he still possessed when making the swap with the Blue Jays for Scott Rolen. In these past few games, Troy has hit 3HRs while batting .438 with an OBP of .471. Does anyone know how Rolen is doing for the Jays?Rounding out the top 5 is Baltimore DH/OF Luke Scott who hit 3 HRs while hitting .538 with an OBP of .571

At the bottom end of this top 10 list are San Diego 2B Edgar Gonzalez, KC C/DH Billy Butler, Seattle LF Raul Ibanez, Rockies 2B Jeff Baker and last but not least, All Star LF of the Brewers, Ryan Braun.

Braves lose by one run,,,,again!

The Braves failed to take advantage of several opportunities given to them by erratic starter Ubaldo Jimenez and lose their 5th game of the year by one run. In the 8th inning Bobby Cox double switched Gregor Blanco to centerfield replacing Mark Kotsay and put Manny Acosta on the mound to reliever Jair Jurrjens. Down one run in the 9th is an ideal situation for a homerun, or to try and atleast get a man on base. Giving a rookie who has never been on the base paths besides as a pinch runner the 2nd AB of the 9th with nobody else on the bench being used....idiotic. Bobby Cox we salute you, you are a f'n moron.

2B For the Rockies

by Kevin Mark

Heading into spring training, there is only one open position in the Rockies lineup. Colorado must find a second baseman to replace Kaz Matsui who signed with the Astros this off season. During the off season there was discussion of moving third base prospect Ian Stewart to second but it now appears Jayson Nix, Brian Giles, Clint Barmes and Jeff Baker will battle for the position.

Colorado hoping to 'Rock the norm

The Colorado Rockies are doing something against the norm. Of course losing one game in nearly three weeks isn't exactly normal either.

After Jeff Francis pitches the first game of the series in Arizona, Colorado will turn things over to two guys with a combined 26 big league starts. (That's counting their outings against the Philadelphia Phillies in the NLDS)

Rockies Sweep Phillies, Join Diamondbacks in NLCS

I had a joke going amongst friends and fellow baseball fans (of the Mets, Cubs and even one Rockies fan) here in Israel this weekend as the Holidays came to an end. It went something like this; "In a short series, you can't go 4-11 and win." Considering that the Phillies trailed the Rockies 2-0 in games going into yesterday's clincher, they got the point.

The Phillies fought hard in game 3 against the Rockies, but once again Colorado won the game this time by a 2-1 score to win the division playoff and face the other winners, the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Todd Helton Misses Time; Baker, Stewart to Benefit

At this point, there isn't a 2007 projection for Todd Helton that would surprise me. Come summer, he could find himself in the All-Star game or on the IR. Some see Helton's weight gain as added muscle, others see it as "fleshiness." He's already missed time in camp with a swollen knee, but says he's healthy. What does all of this mean? Answer: It means we should be keeping our eye on stud prospects Jeff Baker and Ian Stewart.
