Minor Moves: McPherson, Hulett, & Liz

A’s sign 3B Dallas McPherson to a minor league deal
Amidst rumors of a potential Jack Cust departure, it seems only right that Billy Beane goes out and inks the now 29-year-old McPherson. The big lefty has always butchered Triple-A pitching, but has serious issues with strikeouts and health. In fact he missed the entire 2009 [...]

In that vein, SoDoMojo will be getting its own domain sometime in the future, and Harrison, Griffin, and I are curious if any readers have layout or web design suggestions for us.

Does Cust belong in the NL...

Adam Rubin speculates about Jack Cust, apparently the 30 y/o OF/DH is available and the A's are looking to move him before salary arbitration. He won't cost much in trade or contract and will provide 25 HRs and 100 walks but he is also only a .239 hitter with almost 200 strikeouts per season. Add to that, that he has an awful UZR in the outfield and has only played 17 minor league games at 1B and I think he belongs in the AL as a DH....Cust, 30, who hails from Flemington, N.J., hit .2...

Jack Cust said he'd like to be back next year, but he looks around and sees the many young outfielders and hears of the up-and-coming designated-hitter types and he knows that the team might be looking in another direction. "Maybe, I don't know," he said. "It'...

Dallas Braden, who has pitched much, much better than his record will show, was rewarded for an excellent start today with an actual win, as the A’s take the series from the Tigers with the final score of 5-1.
Last Outing

Start a new series tonight against Texas. I meant to drop a blog on you yesterday but got caught up with my day after workout. I pitched pretty well the other night against the A's got the complete game. I was asked if complete games are important to starting pitchers, to me it's important in one regard - it gives the bullpen a night off. As many times as those guys save me, it's nice to return the favor and give them a needed rest. Especially this late in the season. I knew going in that I had my stuff. I had my peanut butter and jelly sandwich and Red Bulls, got focused and went to the bullpen to warm up. That's where you usually get a feel for how the night is going to go. I felt strong out there warming up. When I got out there I liked my control, I was able to put the ball in the spots I was looking for. The curve was working too. I did leave a pitch out over to Cust and he jacked it, that's the one thing that sticks out to me. These division games are important. We lost the A's series, we need to get one back against the Rangers.
