The Padres maybe looking to move some players that might interest the Mets. San Diego currently has two third baseman who are both arbitration eligible, they could end up moving one of them to save some money. Either player could interest the Mets despite having a franchise player at third.Kevin Kouzmanoff is a gold glove caliber 3B who I believe with those defensive skills could transition to 1B easily. Kevin Kouzmanoff has had a good couple of weeks. Actually, his .327/.351/.636 in the last 14 games is better than "good". How did this happen? He didn't suddenly get bigger or stronger. Pitchers haven't suddenly pitched him differently. So what is it? Back in 2007, Kouz's rookie year, he had a rough start. On May 14 he had an OPS of .424 with just one homer in 105 plate appearances. Both tore up the Arizona Fall League and barring an injury will head into Spring Training with a starting gig. That Jesse Barfield deal will make a lot of sense if Kouzmanoff can come anywhere close to matching his AFL numbers next season with the Padres.
