Breaking Down The Mets Bullpen: Brian Stokes

While the 2009 season as a whole was a lost cause for the New York Mets. It did hold some significance for certain players on the team.
One of those players was reliever, Brian Stokes.
Last season, Stokes, 30, appeared in a career-high 69 games and pitched 70.1 innings, which were also the most in his four [...]

Stoking the Cubs

Brian Stokes comes in to pitch the eighth for the Mets and gives up a double and a single to allow the Cubs to tie the game. That means seven strong innings by Pat Misch (one run allowed) will result in a no-decision.
Update: Soriano makes up for his poor fielding with a three-run homer [...]

Bullpen rumblings: Brian Stokes, Pat Misch & Pedro Feliciano

Here's a few interesting tidbits that have come out in the last few days from the bullpen...Last week Billy Wagner was discussing his role upon returning to the team, sometime this season. Wagner sees himself as having a minor role, possibly pitching once week and described himself as having a Brian Stokes type role. Apparently Stokes wasn't happy with Wagner using his name, or down playing his role on the team. Good for Brian, I think the coaching unappreciated Stokes and under/misus...

Mets Detox Day 10: Who's Brian Stokes?

Not to get all self-congratulatory, but I'm pretty damn proud of myself. No Mets viewing in over a week. During this stretch, my beloved not-so-amazins have compiled an enviable 4-6 record with a collection of triple-A plus talent.

Last night, they took the stage on national TV against Pujols and the Cards sans Beltran and somehow managed to win. Apparently, Brian Stokes pitched well coaxing a big double-play groundout from Sir Albert. Funny, I was sure Jerry had forgotten about Stokes due to the fact that he goes after hitters and manages to perform adequately most of the time. Usually those guys get banished to inactivity or shipped to the minors in favor of stalwarts like Takahashi. Curious...

5:45: Wake up and begin gameday 50-mile jog and stretching. I think today's the day I finally talk to Jerry.
5:50: Finish jog, read the entire New York Times and drink coffee.
6:00: My wife wakes up and starts mocking my pregame preparations. She says at least I played in Tampa. She asks if I seriously thought a team that traded cash to get me would ever let me play.
6:05: Eat my Wheaties. Check if I'm still the 152nd best Devil Ray. Yes.
7:00: My son wakes up and asks to play...
