Romo comes through in the clutch

Romo had one of his worst games in terms of accuracy. Of his first nine throws to a wide receiver, only one found its target -- Miles Austin. And that came on the last play of the third quarter.

But with the game on the line, Romo found Austin three more times and, most importantly of all, found Patrick Crayton for the game-winning touchdown. He finished five of 13 on throws to his wide receivers.

Fourth-down try goes nowhere

The Cowboys entered Sunday having made three of four fourth-down tries. They are now three of five.

After a failed third-and-1 run by Marion Barber - out of the shotgun - the Cowboys went for it on fourth-and-2 from the Washington 38 and Tony Romo had a pass intercepted by London Fletcher.

That actually wasn't so bad because the Cowboys gained some yardage there. The bad part was allowing linebacker Brian Orakpo to get pressure on Romo before he could find an open receiver. Attempting t...

Redskins @ Cowboys - Third Quarter Thoughts

There are three things I really didn't like about that quarter:First, the way it ended: Tony Romo hitting his first wide receiver of the day -- Miles Austin, in this case -- for a nice gain. I don't like the momentum it gives, I don't like the gain, I don't like the idea of Romo coming alive. Say what you want about Romo: he may be streaky, he may not have it in the clutch, he may date pop stars and just generally seem kinda like a jerk ... but I don't particularly like th...

A catch by a wide receiver

On the final play of the third quarter, a Dallas Cowboys wide receiver caught a pass.

Miles Austin picked up 19 yards on the improvised throw from quarterback Tony Romo, who was under pressure. Before this play, Cowboys wide receivers had no catches in seven throws.

Redskins extend lead

ARLINGTON - This game is eerily similar to last week's loss at Green Bay.

Washington just took a 6-0 lead on a 31-yard field goal. The big play in the seven-play, 47-yard drive was a 36-yard pass from Jason Campbell to Malcolm Kelly.

The play victimized Mike Jenkins, who isn't having one of his better games.

Last week, Green Bay took a 3-0 lead into the fourth quarter before winning 17-7.

Tony Romo still hasn't hit a wide receiver. Miles Austin just can't get open with a...

Can the Cowboys get anything going?

The defense has done its job, aside from some leaky third-down work, but the offense has to put together some plays in the air.

This might be a good time for the Cowboys to involve the wide receivers in the passing game. None of them caught a pass in the first half. Roy Williams was targeted three times. Miles Austin once.

The protection has been holding up OK. I don't have any qualms with what Doug Free has done so far at right tackle.

Cowboys offense continues to struggle

ARLINGTON - The Redskins lead 3-0 at halftime, marking the third time this season and the second-straight week the Cowboys have failed to score in the first half.

In Week 2, Dallas trailed 7-0 at halftime to Carolina only to come back and win 21-7. Last week in Green Bay, the Cowboys trailed 3-0 at the break and went on to lose 17-7.

In a reversal from last week, the running game is clicking for the Cowboys while the passing game is struggling. Dallas has 106 yards on the ground, with Mario...

Fair to say offense is struggling?

They didn't score against Green Bay until 38 seconds remained last week when the game was over. Now they've gone four drives Sunday vs. Washington without any points.

The Cowboys are 1-for-4 on third down with Roy Williams unable to hold on to a high Tony Romo throw. He was bobbling the ball before being hit by LaRon Landry. The play before Romo missed Miles Austin for a would-be first down. Either Austin went in to deep against the zone coverage or Romo just missed him.

MILWAUKEE, Wis. - The Cowboys have two dynamic players in WR Miles Austin and RB/KR Felix Jones.

In Sunday's 17-7 loss to the Packers, neither made an impact. Austin, the driving force behind the four-game winning streak that was snapped yesterday, didn't make his first catch until there was 9:13 left and finished with four receptions for a 5-yard average after entering the game with a league-best 22.7 average.

A year ago Miles Austin first flashed his big-play ability at Lambeau Field against the Green Bay Packers.

He caught two passes for 115 yards and a touchdown. He should have had two scores but he was clipped from behind on a 63-yard catch when he stopped running to the corner of the end zone away from the Packer defender.

"Yeah, I had a big game personally but I'm not thinking about the last game we played," Austin said. "Even if they killed us, I wouldn't think about...

Although he was limited to just one catch, his ability to beat that coverage resulted in a game-breaking 49-yard touchdown pass from Tony Romo with 8:04 left in the fourth quarter.

``Miles only had the one catch, but he really was open quite a bit,'' coach Wade Phillips said. ``They jammed him at the line. They doubled him some, which we hadn't seen. A lot of times he was open, but it wasn...
