40 man roster signed....

Mets have signed 13 players who were already on the 40 man roster but weren't arbitration eligible. Brian Stokes, Brandon Knight and Robinson Cancel are out of options and will have to pass through waivers if they don't make the team. Darren O'Day is a major league rule V player and will have to ...

Time for Some Stovin'

I've sat down at my computer a couple of times in an attempt to get back into more frequent updates to the site. The hot stove season has always interested me in the past, but I have to admit that I'm just not as into it this season. I suspect part of the reason for this is that I am less ...

Minaya lays the ground work for trades.........

In the Daily News, Minaya talks how he has laid the ground work for future deals...

"There's no doubt things were accomplished," Minaya said. "Where we are today compared to where we were on Monday is, I think, we were able to at least identify clubs that have needs that you have a match with the needs. You'll see follow-up conversations from here that will build up all the way to the winter meetings."

Of course the ground work of deals can mean trading H...

Long line of suitors for Peavy........

Ken Rosenthal's latest column suggest that many teams are in the Jake Peavy sweepstakes. He says the Braves lead the way with a possible trade of Yunel Escobar plus prospects. He also lists Angels, Yankees, Mets, Red Sox, Cubs, Astros, Dodgers, Cardinals, Rays, Rangers..... Speaking of the Mets: Rosenthal has said that the Mets have definite interest on the club's part; the question, as with the Yankees, is whether Peavy would be willing to play in New York. The Mets could offer lefty...

K-Rod might not be the answer...

I have been promoting the go get K-Rod, but I have noticed a couple of things during the playoffs. He is not as overpowering as we all thought, though he has saved more games than the whole Mets bullpen this year. The other problem is he will demand a high price tag because of his new saves record. The Mets have to be careful here and even though he is 26 he might have arm problems down the road. He has a violent delivery (hurky jerky) that could develop problems sooner than later.

Seven Mets players; Daniel Murphy, pitchers Eddie Kunz, Tobi Stoner, Bobby Parnell, Jason Vargas, infielder Shawn Bowman, and catcher Josh Thole, were assigned to play in the Arizona Fall League.

Their team, the Peoria Saguaros, starts play tomorrow and runs until November 20th.

Life in the Majors: Pink Backpacks and Speedos

Bobby Parnell arrived in the major leagues on September 1. When he walked in to the locker room for the first time, he was greeted by new teammate Joe Smith. The New York Mets reliever greeted Parnell with a housewarming gift: a bright pink, over-the-shoulder "Sleeping Beauty" backpack.

With Maine Down Mets May Go With Niese!

The Mets put sore-shouldered John Maine on the 15-day disabled list yesterday and are preparing to replace him in the rotation with highly regarded minor-leaguer Jon Niese, according to a person familiar with the club's thinking. The Mets will maneuver their rotation so that they don't need a fifth starter until Sept. 2 at Milwaukee. When they do, it will likely be Niese, a 21-year-old lefthander who has made six starts for Triple-A New Orleans and is 5-1 with a 3.65 ERA. Niese, the M...

Mets Might Shut Down Maine!

Ailing right-hander John Maine might be shut down for the season if Jerry Manuel and the Mets don't like what they see from Maine's shoulder in a throwing session this week, Manuel told reporters today.

Maine, who has a bone spur in his shoulder, is coming off his worst start in almost a year Saturday night, when he gave up eight earned runs in 7 2/3 innings of an 8-3 home loss to the Astros.

Maine told The Post after the game that he planned to have the bone spur removed by...

Parnell started strong but faded in the end.....

The Mets second best pitching prospect is trying to dispel the label of reliever. Robert Parnell has been projected as a top reliever but the pitching prospect has been starting since selected by the Mets in 2005. His first year wasn't very note worthy in 2006 but in 2007 he started 29 games going 8-8 with a 4.19 ERA between FSL and Binghamton. This year he started 24 games for AA Binghamton to which he produced a record of 10-6 with an ERA 4.30. After his first start in AAA ended as a su...
