O's Trade Robert Andino For Trayvon Robinson

"Given Robert Andino's down 2012, I suggested the Orioles might want to look elsewhere for a starting second baseman for 2013 if they wanted to be competitive again. When the O's picked up Alexi Casilla, the writing was kind of on the wall Andino wasn't going to be getting a starting job with the team next season. And now, as it turns it, he won't be getting any kind of job at all with the Birds, as he's been traded to the Seattle Mariners for outfielder Trayvon Robinson."

Mariners land Andino from O’s

M’s land versatile infielder
Looking to build some infield depth, the Seattle Mariners have acquired Robert Andino from the Baltimore Orioles for outfielder Trayvon Robinson.
With a surplus of outfielders, and a lack of depth in the middle infield, this is a trade purely for depths sake. In his career, Andino has played second, third, shortstop, left and centerfield.

Andino is a career .235/.296/.323 hitter spanning eight seasons in the Bigs. This past season, he posted a .588 OPS with 7 home runs and 5 stolen bases.
Robinson hit .221/.294/.324 with 3 home runs and 6 stolen bases in 46 games with the M’s in 2012.
While Andino provides defensive depth, his glove isn’t exactly golden. He owns a career 2.4 UZR. His best positions are second and short, with an average UZR of 1.4 between the two.
My initial reaction is that the M’s gave up too much in this trade. Robinson is a 25-year old with plenty of potential

Orioles Swap Robert Andino for Mariners’ Trayvon Robinson: A Solid Deal For Both

In a minor trade today, the Baltimore Orioles traded utility infielder Robert Andino to the Seattle Mariners for backup outfielder Trayvon Robinson. I guess the O’s decided that if Jon Papelbon is choking it up in the NL nowadays, Andino’s services are no longer needed. (Zing!)
On a more serious note, the trade makes sense for both squads. For Seattle, Robert Andno adds infield depth as a guy who can play second, third, and short and, though he hit .211 last season, can be a serviceable major league starter if need be. Andino certainly doesn’t solve the Mariners offensive woes, in fact, he’s the type of defense first player that they have too much of. However, he has more experience and more upside than many of the other Mariners. Coupled with Chone Figgins, the Mariners now have a pretty deep infield behind starters Dustin Ackley, Brendan Ryan, and Kyle Seager.
For the Mariners, Robinson was superflous and that’s my favorite part of the deal for them. As a backup outfielder, Robins...

World Meet Trayvon Robinson

It’s funny how sometimes people can go completely unnoticed until something happens they had nothing to do with. Today, Trayvon Robinson got traded to the Baltimore Orioles for Robert Andino. Most of you right now after the fact cannot even tell me where he played before, how old he is, or whether he is bad, good or a prospect. Well it just so happens that I know a little about Trayvon Robinson as he has been a part of the Mariners’ organization for the last year and a half.
Quickly I will explain who he is from a strictly statistical perspective before I delve into the more important issues.
In 90 games he has a .215 BA, .272 OBP .330 SLG. He has 7 career SB and 5 Career HR. He can play left field or center field, and has an average to below average arm.
Now to the Important stuff. He’s only 25, He has a cool name, although it carries different connotations now than when he first showed up with the Mariners, he is out of Crenshaw High School in L.A. and is black. He is out of Minor...

Mariners trade Trayvon Robinson to the Orioles

The Seattle Mariners announced that they have sent outfielder Trayvon Robinson to the Baltimore Orioles in exchange of infielder Robert Andino. Robinson was a highly coveted prospect in the Dodgers organization that ended up in Seattle in a three-team trade that sent Erik Bedard to Boston.
The 25-year old outfielder hit .221/.294/.324 with 3 HR's, 12 RBI's and a .275 wOBA in 164 plate appearances for the Mariners in 2012. Andino, 28, hit .211/.283/.305 with 7 HR's, 28 RBI's and a .265 wOBA in 431 plate appearances for the Orioles in 2012.

Seattle trades Robinson to Baltimore for Andino

Looking to add depth to the infield, the Seattle Mariners acquired versatile Robert Andino from the Baltimore Orioles on Tuesday in exchange for reserve outfielder Trayvon Robinson.

The trade instantly gives the Mariners an experienced infielder who can play second base, third base and shortstop. Andino is likely to fill the role held this past season by Japanese infielder Munenori Kawasaki.

''With Robert having major league and playoff experience and still relatively young, we thought that it made sense to make this trade and let him come in and compete,'' Seattle general manager Jack Zduriencik said in a statement.

Despite struggling at the plate, Andino has played in 266 games the last two seasons for the Orioles. Andino started 106 games last season for the Orioles, including 96 at second base, but also spent time at shortstop and third base.

Andino is out of options and is arbitration eligible. The trade left Seattle's 40-man roster at 37.

Robinson played in 90 games over the pas

Old Friend Alert: Trayvon Robinson

With the Dodgers arriving in Seattle for a weekend series, The Seattle Times conducted an online chat for fans with former Dodger minor leaguer, and current AAA center fielder for the Tacoma Rainiers, Trayvon Robinson.
There are a few questions about the Dodgers that will be of interest for readers of this blog (for one, Trayvon considers the Dodgers more strict as an organization than the Mariners). He also spoke about his interactions with the Dodgers’ Hall of Famers:
When you were with the Dodgers did you get to meet any of their Hall of Fame players and what was that like?
Everybody knows Tommy Lasorda. Tommy, if you were a first round pick or 50th round pick or free-agent signing, he loves you like you were his kid. For him to know my name still when I walk by him, that’s incredible. I knew Don Newcombe, Sweet Lou Johnson, Maury Wills – I got to give him a call later. I haven’t checked in with him lately. Tommy Davis. The one who kind of made me what his attitude is like was ...

Mariners make second round of 2012 roster cuts

Seven more moved to the minors
Not that it wasn’t expected to happen, after all, this is a part of MLB baseball that young players have gotten used to on their journey to the big leagues.
On Saturday, the Seattle Mariners reduced their spring training roster by seven players, and two of the players cut were a surprise to this guy. The cutting of pitcher Aaron Heilman, and outfielder Trayvon Robinson were not expected at all.
At least in my opinion.
Other players receiving the slip today were: Matt Fox, Sean Henn, Josh Kinney, Jeff Marquez, and Oliver Perez. All pitchers. This can only mean one thing; Manager Eric Wedge is happy with his arms in camp this spring.
That is a good thing Mariners fans, as pitching will most likely again be the Mariners strong point this upcoming season. And I am predicting great things from the bullpen this season.
Trayvon will have to wait
The cutting of Trayvon Robinson will probably upset a lot of people. He will most likely start the year off as a starter in Tacoma, and th

Houston hosts MLB's annual Urban Invitational

HOUSTON The success stories extend beyond the raw numbers, although the totals rattled off by Jimmie Lee Solomon, executive vice president baseball development, Major League Baseball, are impressive.

In the five years since Major League Baseball opened its first urban youth academy in Compton, Calif., that program has produced 175 graduates that have earned college baseball or softball scholarships, and an estimated 70 prospects selected in the First-Year Player Draft. Two graduates, Mariners outfielder Trayvon Robinson and Angels first baseman Efran Navarro, made their big-league debuts last season.

Sometimes the impact of what Major League Baseball is striving to accomplish within inner cities is more tangible. When graduates who have yet to parlay baseball into an occupation but are continuing to play the game they love on an advanced stage return and instruct at the academy, Solomon is struck by the influence of their mere presence.

Trayvon Robinson’s vision problems gives Mariners offense new hope

“Wild Thing” You Make My Heart Sing!
Remember the moment from that iconic baseball movie Major League where Rick “Wild Thing” Vaughn’s control issues were solved when he was given a pair of glasses? It was funny because it was plausibly ridiculous.
However fiction met reality when Trayvon Robinson rolled into camp sporting a new pair of specs.
The 24 year old Robinson joined the Seattle Mariners through a three team trade involving Eric Bedard last season and was almost immediately brought up to the major league club.
Trayvon appeared in 44 games for the Mariners hitting a measly .210 with logging in 61 strike outs compared to only getting 30 hits.
It did seem as though the switch hitter had a bit of a hitch in his swing as if he wasn’t seeing the ball real well.
Yet no one thought about the fact that he may not be literally seeing the ball at all.

Trayvon Robinson sporting a new look

Players continue to arrive in camp, with Chone Figgins the latest this morning. Trayvon Robinson, seen in the photo above, got here yesterday. I ran across him this morning when he was coming out of the indoor batting cages and noticed the new glasses he was wearing.
Turns out that Robinson was having some trouble with his contact lenses last season. They kept shifting in his eyes when he was on the field and would occasionally leave him "blinded" for "about a half second" at a time.
He went to see the team's eye specialist.
"He looked at me and said 'Oh, you have astigmatism','' Robinson said.
