It was a pretty dull opening day to this anticlimactic virtually starless postseason, but four ex-Devil Rays were in action. The X-Ray star who burned brightest was Trever Miller, who I mistakenly left out of Fifteen Faces Of October: The DRT Playoff Preview. With the bases loaded and two outs in the bottom of the 6th, and the Cardinals trailing the Dodgers 5-2, the old hillbilly kept his team in it by striking out pinch-hitter Jim Thome. Miller quietly had a helluva year for the Cardinals, going 4-1 with a 2.06 ERA in 43.2 innings over 70 games. The St. Louis Cardinals have given contract extensions to a pair of key relievers - closer Ryan Franklin and left-handed specialist Trever Miller. Terms were not disclosed. Franklin's contract runs through 2011. The extension for Miller is for 2010 with a vesting option for 2011. At 36, Franklin leads the National League with 35 saves in 37 chances. The Cardinals and Trever Miller have agreed to a two year deal, ESPN's Keith Law reports. This deal probably takes the Cardinals out of the running for Will Ohman, mostly because Miller was equally as dominant versus lefties as Ohman (lefties hit .209 versus Miller). Miller went 2-0 with a 4.15 ERA in 68 games for the Tampa Bay Rays, and should help the Cardinals in the bullpen where they blew a league leading 31 blown saves.A
