Video from Manu Ginobili snatching a bat and killing it during Spurs-Kings game in Sacto last night:

Hadn’t noticed Bruce Bowen had retired until the team’s former master of the rabid punch wasn’t there to make the play.

Flagrant Moments From Bruce Bowen's Illustrious Career

The NBA lost an one of a kind yesterday with the retiring of Bruce Bowen. Whether you thought he was dirty or a defensive genius, there was no one like in the him in the recent era of the NBA. He had an ol' school vibe to his game that only Bill Laimbeer could appreciation. So to pay homage to Laimbeer's favorite player, here's some of the moments that will linger on from Bruce Bowen's career. The kick that Wally Szczerbiak will never forget Tripping was a weapon for Bowen...

Bruce Bowen Retires To Focus On Cutthroat Hair Salon Business

Three-time NBA Champion Bruce Bowen is calling it a career at age 38. That should given him plenty of time to bum rush San Antonio hair spas and berate former employees for stealing his business. Bowen was traded from San Antonio to Milwaukee this offseason, where the Bucks quickly bought out his contract, making him a free agent. Even though he's getting up there in age, there are probably plenty of teams that could use an occasional defensive specialist. Unfortunately, the pressures of ...

Bruce Bowen announces his retirement from the NBA

Bruce Bowen is retiring, according to the San Antonio Express-News. He formerly was with the San Spurs and was traded to Milwaukee as part of the deal that brought Richard Jefferson to San Antonio. The Bucks released him after failing to find a taker for Bowen.

The Express-News calls Bowen a "former Spurs great." While that is very debatable, Bowen is certainly one of the better defenders of his era in the NBA. Many, though, will remember him for his less-than-noble defending tac...

Bruce Bowen Announces Retirement

by Ryne Nelson
Give Bruce Bowen credit for getting it right. Somehow, someway, Bruce Bowen managed to capture every basketball fan’s attention despite entering the League as an undrafted swingman with less offensive game than Cookie Monster (and that’s no disrespect to the furry dude).
Bowen won three titles. He played in 500 consecutive games. He earned eight straight All-Defensive First and Second Team nominations. DPOY runner-up twice. But, most of all, we watched the Spurs bec...

So, you've probably heard the news by now. Bruce Bowen is retiring. While I'm sure we're all glad Bruce didn't sign with another team to haunt our playoff dreams, now is the time to pay tribute to one of the most prototypical Spurs players ever.

HoopsWorld Better Have This Bowen Story All Wrong

Wendell Maxey of HoopsWorld says Boston and Cleveland are the two teams gunning for the services of Bruce Bowen. I'm all for addding Bowen to the roster, but not at the expense of Marquis Daniels.

According to published
reports, a return to the Spurs appears "unlikely", while the Celtics
are said to be holding off on signing free agent Marquis Daniels of the
Indiana Pacers until management can decide if adding Bowen to their
roster is more feasible.

On the same day Milwaukee
waived Bowen, Boston declined to pick up the option on reserve point
guard Gabe Pruitt, creating an open roster spot if they now choose to
add a defensive presence that has been lacking since swingman James Posey exited town after the Celtics seized an NBA title in 2008.

Currently, Boston has a
bi-annual exception estimated at $1.9 to apply to either Bowen or
Daniels. But what is the deeper immediate need? Some believe that money
should go towards a back-up point guard to Rajon Rondo, particularly
now since the front office is hesitant to re-sign Stephon Marbury.

Others say the addition of Bowen would only help solidify Boston's team chemistry.

Sorry Wendell, but I just don't think it's an either/or situation with Bowen and Daniels. The Celtics also have the $1.3 million salary slot (which we thought was going to Stephon Marbury) to offer and it seems more fitting for Bowen. And that last sentence about solidifying team chemistry doesn't make much sense to me since there is no issue with team chemistry.

Around the league, the NY Post reports the Knicks are finally ready to make Ramon Sessions an offer.

Rumor: Bowen to Boston

Via CelticsBlog:

A source (preferring to remain unnamed) has indicated a serious flirtation between Bruce Bowen and the Boston Celtics. This may have something to do with the Marquis Daniels delay but it wouldn't be an either/or thing. Boston would like to get both of them.

The Bucks are trying to trade Bowen before his $4 million contract becomes fully
guaranteed (only $2 million is locked in). Ultimately it may be in
Boston's best interest to lure Bowen after he becomes a free agent
although the Celtics run a slight risk that he's traded to another team
before August 1st (and kept at his full salary).

Does the 38-year old Bowen have anything in the tank? He's no longer a lock down defender. He can hit the occasional clutch 3-pointer. I'm cool with Bowen if he's playing a handful of minutes per game.
