Re-Sign or Release: Sasha Pavlovic

With the NBA season in the rear view mirror, we now turn to a summer full of front office decision-making. As fans, we all have our feelings on what needs to be done to improve our Cavaliers team. Rock has laid the figurative cards on the table, but this is where we turn to you – the readers of WFNY.

The premise is simple. Assume all players are restricted free agents and that they'll likely need at least a small raise from last year's salary. Do you re-sign? Or do you release? Of course, we'll leave LeBron James out of this scenario. And also, a little supporting argument always helps. Do Enjoy.

*****

Three guards up, three guards down. The Tribe has spoken regarding Delonte West, Daniel Gibson and Devin Brown. We're going to deviate from the "D's" a bit today and take on another guard in Sasha Pavlovic.

Last summer, we dealt with the back-and-forth negotiations with a guy who was a restricted free agent. Restricted! There was honestly a chance that he would have rather not played at all then to play for the salary at which he was being paid. Feel free to use the same logic of thinking as we decide whether or not to bring him back for yet another year. Also feel free to realize that we paid twice as much money last season for about 60 percent of the production.

2007-08 Salary: $4,250,000

2007-08 Statistics:
51 G; 23.3 Min; 7.4 Pts; 1.6 Ast; 2.5 Reb; 0.6 Stl; 36.2 FG%; 68.8 FT%

Unfortunately, the lengthy hold out that was quickly followed by a season of injuries and utter sub-par play may have left a bad taste in the mouths of most fans. Couple this with the fact that Sasha was completely worthless through most of the playoffs, allowing teams to leave him open to double-team LeBron obviously did not help his case.

What you have is a guy that flashes brilliance during some stages, but then fails to appear for games at a time. To me, I see a player that fails to do anything of impact on the court aside from the ocassional score. How many games did we see where Pavlovic would have, say, 14 points, one rebound and no assists? How does that help this team?

We desperately needed someone to hit open shots against the Celtics. Instead, Sasha went 4-for-14 in 55 minutes through games six and seven. He will be 25 year-old this November, so do you think there is room for growth?

However, I do not want to sway your opinion one way or another. Perhaps I'm missing the boat on this - so feel free to steer me in the right direction.

Re-Sign or Release Devin Brown

With Delonte West and Daniel Gibson already discussed, we continue with the backcourt. But while West and Gibson were logging minutes - at least until Gibson's injury - one Devin Brown was not.

Mike Brown Has Maxed Out

Mike Brown can't be trusted with LeBron James' last two guaranteed seasons in Cleveland. He is a one-dimensional coach who has maxed out on his potential. No matter what happens in the Boston series, the experiment is over and the Cavs need to move in a different direction.

The Year of the NBA Clock

Although Philly players had ran to the locker room thinking the game was over. After reviewing video footage, NBA officials rule Sixers center Samuel Dalembert committed a foul on Cavs guard Devin Brown with 0.2 second left remaining in the game. Brown hit the two shots, securing Cleveland's home-court advantage in the first round of the playoffs.

Philly's reward? Instead of facing Orlando, they get to play Detroit. (via Odenized)

Sixers locked into 7th seed after Cavaliers steal win

The Sixers made a valiant effort to overcome a double-digit fourth quarter deficit, but the Cavaliers and the referees proved to be too much to overcome. Louis Williams made a jumper with 5 seconds left that gave the Sixers a 90-89 lead, but that still left plenty of time for LeBron James and the Cavaliers to make a shot to win the game. However, when James missed a lay-up where it clearly looked like he traveled, and then Devin Brown grabbed a rebound and tried a weak shot that barely hit rim the game was over, right? The Sixers thought so, as they celebrated the win and headed off to the locker room. The refs thought otherwise. The refs conferenced for at least 5 minutes after the game was over and decided that Samuel Dalembert fouled Devin Brown on his putback attempt with 0.2 seconds left and awarded Brown two free throw attempts, which he subsequently made to win the game for the Cavaliers, 91-90.

So, not only did the refs miss LeBron's blatant travel, they also blew the call on the follow-up by Brown. One could make the argument that LeBron was fouled harder on his lay-up attempt than Brown was by Dalembert. Of course, if Andre Miller doesn't fall asleep on the play and let Devin Brown grab the board, the game would have been over and the refs would never have had a chance to screw the Sixers.

Click the link below for a video clip of the entire video sequence. Watch the refs screw the Sixers, then watch Andre Miller punt the ball after the game.

Important Fantasy Lines: March 12

If each night one had the time, energy and will to look through every NBA stat line, one might be very successful at fantasy basketball. One would be able to pick up emerging studs, drop eventual duds and monitor those ify suds. Unfortunately, a manager rarely has the time to do this, but here at Fantasy Basketball Pros we care about you, so we look through all the lines and tell you in summary form what you really need to know. Here are the most telling fantasy lines from Wednesday.

Day 135 of 170: Chris Paul for VP?

In yesterday's interview on NBA Roto, I predicted that Daequan Cook (-6.1) would go out in the Heat's very next game and shoot 2-10 and finish with 5 points. Well, he actually shot 2-9 and finished with 6 points. Close enough for me to toot my own horn. He did hit a couple threes and grab 8 boards, so it wasn't quite a biggest loser performance, but I believe this is the Daequan Cook we're going to see the rest of the year.
