Marcus Camby Not Retiring; Wants Bigger Role With Knicks

No one exactly knows why the Knicks gave an injury prone 39-year-old center a three year deal, but Camby is planning to collect every penny. I am not mad at him.
Camby’s agent Richard Kaplan told ESPNNewYork.com on Thursday that the 17-year-veteran is committed to returning next season to be the backup center.“The game plan is still the same,” Kaplan said. “There’s no reason to believe he won’t be back and won’t take on a greater role next season.”

Knicks Free Agent Look In: The Future of Kenyon Martin

By Chris Connolly
As we move forward towards the draft and into the offseason, it seems as though the contribution of Knicks PF/C Kenyon Martin has been overlooked. The pairing of the Knicks and K-Mart seemed to be match made in heaven. The Knicks were looking to sure up their front line after injuries to Marcus Camby and Amar’e Stoudemire. In the mean time K-Mart was looking for an opportunity for a clean slate. When the Knicks signed Kenyon, a one-time nemesis, nobody knew exactly what to expect. Sure we knew he would add help on the backboards, as well as provide energy off the bench. What we did not know is that Kenyon Martin would become arguably the most consistent big man on the Knicks roster.
After being passed over as a free agent until Feb. 21, Kenyon came to the Knicks with a chip on his shoulder. Martin felt as though he had done enough in his tenure with the Clippers to garner a free-agent deal coming into this past season. Teams shied away from signing Martin, stating ...

Knicks Player Season Reviews: Marcus Camby

When the Knicks decided which route they were going to take heading into the 2012-13 season, they knowingly took a risk. By deciding to acquire as many veterans as possible, the Knicks left a lot of their fate in the hands of potential injuries and the possibility of old age catching up to some of their new acquisitions. In July they made a move with that in mind, with that risk attached, but it was a move that seemed quite popular at the time.
With Marcus Camby rejoining the Knicks, the excitement was two-fold. One aspect, certainly, was that a fan favorite was returning; a guy who was a part of the last positive aspect of Knicks basketball was back! That’s always fun.

Then there was the more practical enthusiasm, that with Marcus Camby backing up Tyson Chandler, the Knicks were going to be legitimately huge. They were going to have two legitimate 7-footers who could rebound and patrol the paint. This was supposed to be a huge advantage against Miami, whom the Knicks were figuring...

Physically outmanned in Indiana, New York Knicks center Marcus Camby has played 12 seconds against the Pacers

Despite being badly outmanned in the paint, New York Knicks center Marcus Camby has seen 12 seconds of action against the Indiana Pacers due to pain from plantar fasciitis. Falling 82-71 in Game 3 on Saturday night in the Eastern Conference semifinals, New York is being manhandled by the Pacers quartet of Paul George, David West, Roy Hibbert and Tyler Hansbrough. Hobbled and never to be confused with Bill Russell, the Knicks could benefit from using the 39-year-old Camby in certain situations. Granted, the 6-foot-11, 235 pound Camby only competed in 24 regular season games and averaged a mere 1.8 … Continue reading →

The Return of Marcus Camby: Part 2

This weekend Marcus Camby will make his debut for the second time this year. Marcus has been sidelined with the painful foot injury, plantar fasciitis. Marcus is an important player for this Knick team, he is here to back-up Tyson Chandler, giving the Knicks a full 48 minutes of solid center play. With either Tyson or Marcus out on the floor at all times, the Knicks can button up their defense.
Nobody expects Marcus to play 24 minutes or even 20, but if he can give you a solid 15 minutes worth of intimidation, blocked shots and rebounding, he will solidify the Knicks defense into a top 10 team. With the addition of K-Mart and now Camby to the bench, the Knicks defense will have a solid rotation of toughness and veteran defensive prowess.
The question is and has been all year for the entire Knicks team, can they stay healthy? Now that we know Rasheed Wallace is out for the year, this makes Marcus’ return more important than ever before. If he can stay healthy and contribute to this t...

Breaking News: Camby out 2-4 Weeks

Marcus Camby has re-aggravated the foot injury that kept him out earlier this year an now will be out 2-4 weeks. Marcus recently cracked the rotation and was playing pretty solid basketball at the time of his newest injury. The Knicks are now officially thin up-front. Rasheed Wallace will miss his 14th straight game tonight and Stat is on a minutes restriction. Adding to that is Tyson Chandler who has been logging heavy minutes and has been plagued with minor dings.
Will the Knicks now make a move and add a big? It has been speculated for a week now that they are interested in K-Mart. Now with the injury to Camby and the unknown status status of Sheed, will the Knicks make the move?
Marcus Camby will be out 2-4 weeks with a strained left plantar faciia. Woodson calls it “another setback.”

Marcus Camby takes a shot at Nets fans

It has been a full decade since Marcus Camby took the court for a regular season game in a New York Knicks uniform, but the veteran center has already begun stirring the pot with the Knicks’ cross-state rivals. The Knicks have always been called New York’s team when it comes to basketball, but the Nets have always been based in New Jersey. Now that they have moved their franchise to Brooklyn, will things change? Camby doesn’t expect them to, as was evident when he was asked about Hurricane Sandy resulting in the postponing of the Nets-Knicks opener and the unveiling of Brooklyn’s new $1 billion arena. “Well, it was going to be a home game for us tonight too,” Camby said according to ESPNNewYork.com. And so it begins — or should I say continues. Whether or not the Nets move to Brooklyn results in a more loyal fan base remains to be seen, but it will take a lot for them to match the Knicks in terms of a following. When Dwight Howard supposedly wanted to be traded to the Nets, Patrick ...

Training camp is not going well for the New York Knicks.Just yesterday, the Knicks announced that Amar’e Stoudemire would miss 2-3 weeks because of a left knee injury, and , now coach Woodson can’t gurantee that Marcus Camby will be available for the season opener.According to the NY Post, Camby has been shelved since the fourth day of training camp with a left calf strain and could miss the season opener. When asked if he’ll be ready for the opener, Woodson said, “don’t know. That I don’t know.” Woodson said the concern is making sure Camby’s calf “doesn’t become a nagging problem that lasts throughout the season.”Without Stoudemire and Camby, the Knicks’ front line looks rather thin.

Marcus Camby Returns To Knicks Hoping For Success in a Familiar Place

The last time Marcus Camby was a full-time backup center, his team made it to the NBA Finals. That was the 1998-99 season, and to this day, still stands as the closest Camby has gotten to winning that oh so coveted NBA title.Four NBA "All-Defensive" teams and a respectable decade-plus career later, Camby has returned to the Big Apple in hopes of finally winning that trophy once and for all.Just like in 1999, when Camby backed up one of the greatest big men of all-time in Patrick Ewing, he will again don orange and blue while backing up quite the skilled center in 2012 DPOY Tyson Chandler. How much easier could life get, for the returning Knickerbocker? Backing up a player of Chandler's caliber, the pressure is all but off of Camby. Though the big man is 38 years old, he proved last season what the Knicks will set out to prove all year: age is just a number.Last season, Camby started 53 out of 59 games for the Blazers and Rockets, still managing to grab 9 rebounds and swa...

Camby: I couldn't wear Heat uniform

Joe Murphy/NBAE via Getty ImagesThe Miami Heat were looking to lock up every free agent they could after signing veteran shooting guard Ray Allen. After that, the Heat tried signing up former Houston Rockets center Marcus Camby, who almost did until he bolted to re-join the New York Knicks. However, the big reason Camby didn't sign with the Heat was the battles he used to have with them back in the past. He just couldn't see himself wearing that uniform.“I knew that it would have been very hard for me to put on that Miami Heat uniform, especially all the battles we used to have back in the days with Houston and those guys,” he told Newsday. “I’m happy things worked out.”Steve Nash said the same exact thing until the veteran point guard ended up joining the Los Angeles Lakers.
Heat going strong after free-agent C Camby

MIAMI Has center Marcus Camby emerged as the free agent the Heat are going after the hardest?

Sources close to the situation said Friday the free agent will visit Miami on Saturday. One source said the Heat had reached out to Cambys camp at 12:01 a.m. EDT last Sunday, the very first time teams could contact free agents.

It initially appeared Cambys priority was to re-sign with Houston. But sources said Camby has changed his tune this week due to a belief the Rockets are rebuilding, and he would be very receptive to signing with Miami.

The Heat on Thursday entertained free-agent guard Ray Allen. On Sunday, they will play host to free-agent forward Rashard Lewis.

Using Miamis 3.09 million exception, the Heat are willing to give Allen a three-year, 9.53 million contract. However, Allen could end up returning to Boston, which has offered him a two-year, 12 million deal. And one source wondered if, due to how thin Miami is at center and the difficulty it is to acquire big men without big bucks, Camby could em

Marcus Camby interested in joining the Knicks

A source close to Marcus Camby told ESPNNewYork.com that the unrestricted free agent would be interested in returning to the Knicks.
Camby, 38, played for the Knicks from 1998 to 2002. Camby has also played for the Raptors, Nuggets, Clippers, Blazers and, most recently, the Rockets.
Knicks could use a veteran big man off the bench who changes the game on defense. Camby is a four-time blocks leader who was named Defensive Player of the Year in 2007.
Camby could be open to the team’s midlevel exception of $3.09 million. That will be available only if the Knicks sign-and-trade for a free-agent point guard, which is No. 1 on their list because they’re the weakest at that position on the depth chart.
If the Knicks sign a top free-agent point guard to the midlevel amount, the source would be “shocked” if Camby accepts the veteran’s minimum of $1.4 million. The 16-year veteran could likely command more than $3.09 million, because he earned roughly $11.2 million in 2011-12 with the Blazers and Rockets,

Camby: Blazers believe in curse

The Portland Trail Blazers have historically been ravaged by injury. Going back to Bill Walton up to LaMarcus Aldridge and his bad hip this season. If it's not an injury it's been bad people on the team (Jail Blazers) or talented teams that choked (the Clyde Drexler Blazers). Big man Marcus Camby was traded to the Houston Rockets and it probably extended his career a few more years. In an interview with ESPN's Marc Stein Camby touched upon the Blazers injuries and said that the players in Portland do believe there is a curse. Q: You know those of us in the media throw around words like "curse." But what about the players on that team? In the Blazers' locker room, are guys asking: What next? A: They might not want to admit it, but when I was there, my goodness, people were saying, "Are we really snake-bit? Are we really cursed?" Doubts and talks like that came about. Everybody just tried to brush it to one side and remain positive, but it was hard to escape because ever

Video: Marcus Camby makes full-court shot

Marcus Camby made a one handed shot from the full length of the court but unfortunately got off the shot just a second too late for it to count. It is quite rare to see the full court shot made, so this should be making its way around highlight reels this morning, regardless if the three points ended up on the board or not.
