Recapping the play of the week

Many apologies for not giving this play its proper due in Saturday's paper. But space and time constraints sometimes get the best of us.

Better late than never, though, so we have to rehash the outrageous play that Matt Carroll and James Singleton teamed up for with just over five minutes left in the fourth quarter Friday at Indiana.

The situation was this: Jason Terry missed a 3-pointer and the ball was headed out of bounds. But Singleton made a leaping save that bounced off a Pacers player and was headed back out of bounds.

This is where it gets good.

Carroll figured he could get to the ball before it went OB, so he leaped over the end line and flipped it back in bounds. While this was happening, Singleton came back into play, got both feet down on the floor, nabbed the ball and flew in on the baseline for a thundering dunk.

It wasn't an important play. All it did was put the Mavericks up by 24. But it was an entertaining moment in a blowout win.

Oh yes. It also was No. 1 on virtually all highlight-reel countdowns.

The Mavericks will roll into New Orleans Arena tonight still riding high from the emotional come from behind win over the Utah Jazz on Tuesday night. While the win over the Jazz was ugly for three quarters the last 8 minutes were simply amazing. Can the Mavs keep their 3 game winning streak going?

Larry Brown Thinks He Can Make DeSagana Diop A Good Center?

I realize that Charlotte Bobcats head coach Larry Brown is an excellent teacher as a coach, I also am well aware of the old bromide you "Can't teach height." However even taking both those factors into consideration, I still think that the Charlotte Bobcats weakened their team Friday, as according to the "Associated Press" they traded guard Matt Carroll and center Ryan Hollins to the Dallas Mavericks for center DeSagana Diop.

Dallas has lost it's last 3 games, to the Phoenix Suns, Sacramento Kings, and Denver Nuggets. Today, they made a trade with the Charlotte Bobcats, giving away DeSagana Diop for guard Matt Carroll and center Ryan Hollins.I'm not sure if the trade really helps either team.
