Ken Davidoff takes a look at the Mets approach to this off-season, in which their keeping tabs on multiple free agents. It appears the Mets are determined to not sign a bad contract and as a result are targeting multiple players at the same position. Torrealba, who turned down a two-year, $4.5-million deal from the Rockies, is expected to receive an offer soon from the clubs that have called about him, including one from the NL West. I haven’t pinned down the NL West team, but the Giants make a lot of sense since they are expected to lose Bengie Molina and need someone they can trust if prospect Buster Posey needs more Triple-A seasoning. It kind of makes sense; it kind of scares me.

If you believe the reports, then Bengie Molina is our primary target for catcher this off-season. Molina was targeted by Omar in 2006 but when the veteran catcher was slow to respond the Mets traded for Paul Lo Duca. Last week Marty Noble reported that the Mets considered Rod Barajas was the Mets top catching target this off-season.
