Frank & Weis: When Being Fired Is Fair or Not

Lawrence Frank and Charlie Weis spent all last week knowing that they wouldn't be holding onto their jobs for very much longer. Both Frank, the head coach of the New Jersey Nets, and Weis, the head coach at Notre Dame, were on borrowed time and were looking straight at that shiny guillotine. Both were fired in successive days this week. Frank, who was reported to be fired all weekend, finally was shown the door before the Nets 17th straight loss to open the current season. Notre Dame waite...

The 10-man rotation, starring 'Sesame Street' hoops

A look around the league and the web that covers it. It's also important to note that the rotation order and starting nods aren't always listed in order of importance. That's for you, dear reader, to figure out.C: The Baseline. In honor of Seasame Street's 40th anniversary, Shoals delivers a brief video anthology of some of the times basketball has figured prominently on the show. Great stuff.PF: Charlotte Observer.
Sixers vs. Nets: Bounce Back Game

0-5 Nets should be an easy target for the the Sixers coming off the drubbing the Celtics put on them.

There is really NO reason to over analyze this game. The Nets will be without:

	Devin Harris
	Yi Jianlian
	Keyon Dooling
	Chris Douglas-Roberts
	Jarvis Hayes
	Tony Battie

This team is easily the least healthy team in the NBA right now and it will stay that way for a couple weeks. The expected starting line?

Eazy Yi Has an MCL Sprain

More bad news for the Nets. Because, clearly, they haven’t had enough of that lately: “The team is not discussing any timetable for the third-year player, but a typical recovery period for such an injury is two to four weeks, and it has been known to last as long as six. ‘It’s a shame; if you look at it, he had a good start to the season, he was aggressive and assertive in the first few games,’ Nets coach Lawrence Frank said Tuesday night. ‘You feel bad for him, ...

Evil Russian Mastermind To Buy Nets In Crucial 'Phase 1' Of Operation

Mikhail Prokhorov (actual picture) is one of Russia's richest and most sinister men. Now he's extending his tentacles into America as the newest majority owner of the Nets. But what's he really up to? Net's owner Bruce Ratner seems to have a pretty formidable business partner in Prokhorov.
NBA.com: Waiver Wire - Dooling's Time?

Warriors acquire Marcus Williams

So far, Marcus Williams has been a bust. The former first-round pick (#22 overall) clearly hasn't panned out, as he's averaging just 6.4 points and 3.0 assists and shooting 38.9% from the field in his brief career. That didn't stop Golden State from trading a future first round pick for him.

From the NY Post blog....

" The trade will be announced later today.

The pick is lottery protected for 2011, so the Nets get it if the Warriors are in the playoffs. If it goes ...

Point Guards and Big Men

Everything is on hold till Mr. Big Game decides who he wants to take the MLE from. So lets spend some time thinking about who might fill out the roster. We have pretty sizable holes at backup point guard and center (gee, that sounds familiar, don't we say that every year?). It looks like Chad Ford has updated his Free Agent rankings (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/columns/story?columnist=ford_chad page=FreeAgents-080629). Seems like a good time to review some names:

Duhon Signing a Souring Loss In O-Town?

A Daily Babble Production

As was discussed (index.php?option=com_content task=view id=3549 Itemid=260) yesterday in this space, the Chris Duhon signing fills a need for the hated Knickerbockers but isn't likely on its own to instigate any ground-breaking changes in the results for the team in the Sizable Apple.

So our attention turns to an Eastern contender that seems to be quite bothered by losing out on what apparently became a sweepstakes of sorts for the former Duke guard&#3...

Free Agent Rumors and Updates

This Corey Maggette thing is getting worse than a soap opera. The Globe announced that the Celtics had made offers to both Maggette and Posey on July 1. On July 3, the Herald reported that the Celtics denied making an offer to Maggette. Ok, maybe the Globe was mistaken and the Celtics didn't make an offer, but just contacted his agent and inquired about him. But, then, on July 4, the Globe had another article on how the Celtics made an offer to Maggette and Doc even called him to talk to ...
