The Kings trimmed their roster to 14 players Wednesday afternoon, cutting seven-year NBA veteran center-forward Melvin Ely and guard Lanny Smith, the team announced. Both players saw limited playing time in this exhibition season. Smith played in just two games, scoring one point a a free throw, and Smith played just three minutes at Portland in the Kings' first preseason game. Line of the Night: Gerald Wallace (5.9) had the best line of the night. I'd personally be tempted to give it to Chris Paul (5.7), who had 23 points, 17 assists and 9 rebounds, but Paul was only 7 of 20 from the field. Wallace's 23/6/8 isn't as pretty as Paul's line, but he did shoot a much better 8-11 and added 3 steals. Plus after being a bridesmaid five times this year, I think it's time for Wallace to be the bride. Ahh, that wasn't the best analogy

According to several sources, a trade for Bobcats forward Melvin Ely is near completion. The Charlotte Observer and the San Antonio Express-News are reporting that the trade will include Eric Williams and a future draft pick for Ely.
