Considered long shots to make the roster, this doesn't come as a big surprise. Roster currently stands at 14.

NBA Teams Making Final Cuts

by Ryne Nelson
Although it might be nice, teams can’t go into the season with 20 players on the roster. That’s why we’re seeing plenty of cutting and trimming going on this week. Rather than posting every press release, we compiled everything we’ve heard since Monday into the table below. Some teams have already made the cuts to walk into the regular season. Others, clearly, will be making decisions in the near future.
Whether they’re second round rooks, undrafte...

Kings trim roster to 14 players

The Kings trimmed their roster to 14 players Wednesday afternoon, cutting seven-year NBA veteran center-forward Melvin Ely and guard Lanny Smith, the team announced.
Both players saw limited playing time in this exhibition season. Smith played in just two games, scoring one point a a free throw, and Smith played just three minutes at Portland in the Kings' first preseason game.
The Kings conclude the exhibition season with two games this week - Thursday at Oklahoma City and Friday again...

The View From Section 214, Special Section 104 Practice Edition

Practice? We're blogging about practice. About practice!

You had me at "free parking"…
It’s Mrs. Section214 and me for the open practice session. Mrs. section has been battling a head cold, so we’ll see how long she is able to hang in there. The chicken strip basket is presently keeping her occupied.

Sitting in section 104 tonight. Not to be an upper deck snob, but I think I prefer my seats. You’re certainly closer down here, but the si...

A Little Help from my Friends

Because everyone loves a game when your starting big men are Sean Marks and Melvin Ely, right?

With David West and Tyson Chandler out, CP and Peja were cruising in leader-mode last night for sure.
I kind of shudder to think how the game would?ve gone if Posey/Peja/Sual had had one of their ?cold? games from [...]

Comments from the Other Side - Pacers

Finally, a thread where 3/4 of it isn't dedicated to blaming the refs for the loss. That gets old after awhile. This is a tough Pacers team that is going to put it together by the end of the season. I wouldn't want to face them in the playoffs. The Pacers have always given us problems ...

Nope, Ely Won’t Be Blogging Here This Season

Why, you ask?
Well, because Jim Eichenhofer of Hornets.com was right about what he told me last week: Melvin Ely's first blog over on the official website 100% cannot be improved upon.
I'm not even gonna try. (Um, but the tooth story is not for the squeamish. I hope you ate already. Seriously.)

Why Pierce's Injury Could Be Very Real

Aside from the wack officiating in the first half of Game 2, the biggest controversy could be the truth behind Paul Pierce's knee injury. For the past 3 days, I have read so much about it that I don't even know what to believe anymore.

Some say Pierce faked the whole thing, from the crumpling to the floor in agony to the wheelchair shenanigans to his eventual inspirational comeback. They claim that somebody who suffered an injury like that (and required the afore-mentioned wheelch...

Day 91 of 170: Gerald Wallace Finally has the Best Fantasy Game of the Night

Line of the Night: Gerald Wallace (5.9) had the best line of the night. I'd personally be tempted to give it to Chris Paul (5.7), who had 23 points, 17 assists and 9 rebounds, but Paul was only 7 of 20 from the field. Wallace's 23/6/8 isn't as pretty as Paul's line, but he did shoot a much better 8-11 and added 3 steals. Plus after being a bridesmaid five times this year, I think it's time for Wallace to be the bride. Ahh, that wasn't the best analogy

Spurs finalizing trade for Melvin Ely

According to several sources, a trade for Bobcats forward Melvin Ely is near completion.

The Charlotte Observer and the San Antonio Express-News are reporting that the trade will include Eric Williams and a future draft pick for Ely.

"The Bobcats and Spurs were in a conference call with league officials Tuesday afternoon to finalize the deal. Ely, a 6-9 power forward, requested a trade earlier this season in search of playing time. He's playing on a one-season, $3.3 million con...
