TSHQ’s Player of the Day

Player of the Day: Day 7
by Gus Elvin
First of all I apologize for the break in the action in terms of my top 100 player list, as I have been swamped with work during the holidays. I am happy to inform you the hiatus is over and the list is back, as we will pick up right where we left off at day #7. For day #7, we will play on the holiday theme (despite being a day late) and go with one of the headliners on the All-Time NCAAB Holiday Name team, former Temple guard Dionte Christmas.
Dionte Christmas, SG, Temple (2005-09) – A fairly recent graduate, I am sure many of you remember Dionte Christmas and the strong Owl squads from the end of the past decade. Dionte Christmas was the leading scorer on those teams, as the 4-year player led Temple to back to back Atlantic 10 Tournament titles in 08’ and 09’. Christmas made his name as a cold blooded scorer, as Dionte was someone who could score at will and eventually became the 1st player to ever lead the Atlantic 10 in scoring 3 years in a row. Philadelphia b

Unics Kazan 76, Fenerbahçe Ülker 71: Impressions, highlights

Right, now we’re into it! BallinEurope was naturally pleased to see his dark horse elite-eight candidate Unics Kazan defend home court against Fenerbahçe Ülker on opening night of the 2011-12 Euroleague Top 16 round, 76-71 – though it sure wasn’t easy for Unics after they generously spotted the Turkish side a 17-point lead at halftime. A few talking points for you, then … and BiE’ll go ahead and do this bullet-point style.

• This game was quite the textbook example of the 13th man’s value to Kazan, as the second half was all Unics riding the home support after a disastrous second quarter.
• What was the deal with the Unics bench? Is coach Evgeny Pashutin simply unwilling to go seven deep with this side? Pashutin looked to be running his preferred quintet into the ground as Nathan Jawai, in for about 11 minutes, proved the only viable substitute for the Russian team last night. Terrell Lyday, Vladimir Veremeenko, Petr Samoylenko, Henry Domercant, and Mike Wilkinson all went for 2...

A Few Euroleague First Round Observations

The 24 Euroleague (EL) teams have played two of their 10 first round games so far and we wanted to take a look at some things that caught our eye over the first two weeks of play.GROUP A:Picked Caja Laboral (2-0) to take Group A and they have looked solid so far. Mirza Teletovic has been one of the top EL performers so far banging down 23 pts vs. Ulker and 22 pts vs. Cantu. Mirza's flawless stroke has been on--50% overall, 6-for-13 from 3pt. range--and he also has done damage posting and iso-ing. Washington Wiz Kevin Seraphin has aided Teletovic by pitching in 10 points in both game. Some concerns that a very talented Fenerbahce Ulker squad has started 0-2, but keep in mind those losses came to Caja and Olympiacos. Recent NJ Net Bojan Bogdanovic has been a disappointment so far only scoring a total of two points through two games. Though it is hard for Bojan to get consistent touches with Roko Ukic, Curtis Jerrells and Emir Preldzic sharing ball-handling duties. Thabo Sefol...
