A groin injury is going to keep Harris out for a while, but he sounds confident in his ability to return sooner than expected: “Devin Harris just told us he’s going to be out 7-10 days with a groin injury, but it could be longer. ‘We’re shooting for 7-10,’ Harris said. ‘I probably can guarantee it won’t be shorter. That’s kind of what we’re shooting for.”’

New Jersey Nets point guard Devin Harris says he's out at least a week because of a sore right groin. Harris sat out Saturday night's game against the Washington Wizards and will leave the team Sunday to see a specialist in Chicago. Harris originally hurt the groin in an exhibition game Oct. 13 and reinjured it during Friday's loss to Orlando. Harris isn't sure how long he'll be out, but he says he's aiming to return in seven to 10 days.

The answer? We understand how important Marquis Daniels will be to this Celtics team.

Even though we were skeptical of his point guard skills, John and I recognized the importance of having a quality player, a guy who could start for many teams in the league, backing up Paul Pierce and Ray Allen.

Comcast analyst Donny Marshall took it one step further when he compared the Daniels signing to Mark Texiera joining the Yankees.

Here's what Devin Harris, a teammate of Daniels in Dallas, had to say:

“He’s going to be great for them,” Harris said before Daniels had nine points in the Celts’ 100-93 exhibition win over New Jersey yesterday. “He’s an experienced player, very versatile, and a guy who’s got a high basketball IQ. He can play different positions, whether it be point guard or two or three or whatever they need him to play. He’s got a lot of skills.”

“He can spell (Rajon) Rondo, he can spell Ray (Allen) or even Paul (Pierce),” Harris continued. “But I think the guy who’s maybe going to benefit the most is Eddie House. Having Marquis is going to allow him to run free and not really have to worry about ballhandling responsibilities. That’s how it worked with me sometimes.”

That's how it's worked at times in the preseason, and that's how we all hopes it works in the regular season, playoffs and NBA Finals.

Don't forget, Devin Harris is an intelligent player with impeccable decision making skills (see evidence here).

(Old But New to Us) Rumor: Rondo for Devin Harris

Via Chris Sheridan's ESPN Insider column:

General manager Danny Ainge has acknowledged discussing possible Rondo trades with other teams early in the offseason (one proposal that was floated but never gained traction was a multiplayer deal that would have included Devin Harris of the New Jersey Nets),...

A Rondo-for-Harris swap is one deal I would support. Devin Harris is a spectacular offensive talent. Another plus, we could regularly post pictures of his playmate dates.

I remain optimistic the Celtics will be able to sign Rondo to a contract extension. According to Sheridan's column, Rajon plans to work on...

Rondo said his areas of focus for this season will be gambling less on defense and defending the high pick-and-roll better, along with reducing his turnovers to the point where he can challenge the likes of Jose Calderon for the league lead in assist-to-turnover ratio.

Just stay in front of your man Rajon. Your unwillingness to play this way last season became my biggest frustration, followed closely by Perk's inability to set proper screens.
