Artest, Martin Fuel Kings Past Rockets 99-98

The Kings played spoiler for a night, denying the Rockets their 50th win and a tie for 3rd place in the West with the Lakers. Instead they stay in 6th place, diminishing their chances for the Southwest division title and homecourt advantage. Great game to watch all the way down to the end.

NBA, Where 10th to 1st Place Happens, What's Next for Rockets

After defeating the Lakers, the team that was tied with them, the Rockets stand alone at the top of the west, winning 104-92. "Skip to my Lou" Rafer Alston was amazing dropping career highs of eight 3 pointers and 31 points while Bobby Jackson came off the bench for 19 points and 6 rebounds. T-Mac was ice cold in the first half, but he had 8 of his 11 points in the fourth quarter and finished with 6 assists. The thing about T-Mac, he'll be there when it counts.

Just about every player on the Rockets pitched in. Luis Scola had a double double with 13 points and 11 rebounds, while Mike Harris, signed to a 10-day contract, had 6 points and 6 rebounds. Chuck Hayes had 3 points and 6 rebounds while Luther Head contributed 7 points. Dikembe Mutombo had 9 rebounds and a block, while Shane Battier had 14 points and a late game block on Kobe Bryant. All around team effort.

Speking of Kobe, he had 24 points and 7 rebounds while Lamar Odom had 17 points and 11 rebounds. Vladimir Radmonovic had only 5 points, despite starting, but had 5 rebounds to go along with Ronny Turiaf, getting the start in Pau Gasol's place, had 13 points, 8 rebounds, and 3 blocks. Luke Wal;ton had 9 points, Jordan Farmar had 8, Sasha Vujacic had 7, Derek Fisher had 6 and D.J. Mbenga had 3. No player on the Lakers had more than 3 assists.

The Rockets continue to roll after breaking the first place tie and claim supremacy, but their record doesn't get any easier after this. They'll have to go to Boston to take on the Celtics, who came off of their first home loss to a Western Conference team, the Utah Jazz. After that, home games to the Hornets, Warriors and Suns. They've gone 22-0. 26-0 would be amazing if they pass all of these teams. With a the team like the Rockets, it's not impossible.

Important Fantasy Lines: March 12

If each night one had the time, energy and will to look through every NBA stat line, one might be very successful at fantasy basketball. One would be able to pick up emerging studs, drop eventual duds and monitor those ify suds. Unfortunately, a manager rarely has the time to do this, but here at Fantasy Basketball Pros we care about you, so we look through all the lines and tell you in summary form what you really need to know. Here are the most telling fantasy lines from Wednesday.

Houston Makes it 20!

Can you believe the second longest winning streak in NBA history belongs to the 2007-08 Houston Rockets! On top of that, the last 8 have come without their best player, the big man from China. The Rockets are not only winning, but they are blowing people out.

Houston Rockets are For Real!

Its no secret that the Houston Rockets are on one of the biggest winning streaks in NBA history. They are now up to a 19 game winning streak. They are currently tied for the 3rd biggest streak. Tomorrow they face the Atlanta Hawks to try and add another win putting them in a tie for second with 20 wins in a row. This is a game they should win very easily. They also then play Charlotte on Friday which should be another easy win for them. Giving them a 21 game winning streak going into Sunday`s game against the Lakers.

Starting on Sunday the Rockets face a tough 5 game schedule. They face off against the Lakers, Celtics, Hornets (who they recently beat), Warriors and Suns. This should be a true test of how good they really are. Im actually getting tired of people saying how during their streak they have beaten bad teams. True they may not have the best records, but the fact is they have been blowing teams out of the water. What is it now 10 games in a row they have beaten teams by atleast 10 points. Three of which were the Nuggets, Hornets and Mavs. The fact is they have still won 19 in a row which a great feat no matter who you play. I`m tired of people saying the only reason we beat the Mavs is because Dirk was suspended. Guess what so was Yao, but the Rockets still found a way to win and keep winning.

I`m sorry but the Rockets are the real deal. They have guys who are stepping up big time. They are playing great defense under Adelman. They are also pushing the ball up and down the court which is something the Rockets haven`t done consistently in a long time. Which is two great qualities for a team to have going into the last stretch before the playoffs. They have great depth coming off the bench which is another quality you must have in a championship type caliber team. For a while they were lacking 3-point shooting, but Bobby Jackson and Steve Novak, have stepped up to drill a lot of threes. Just look at the Hornets game where they had 7 or 8 3`s in the second quarter alone. T-Mac is T-Mac and will continue to play at a high level. They have also been getting great production from Luis Scola and Shane Battier. Dont fortget about the deadly elbow in Dikembe Mutombo, who will help the Rockets defensively during the playoffs. Chuck Hayes and Carl Landry provide great defense for them off the bench. What is alos great to see is Rafer Alston playing at the level of an all-star type player. If you haven`t gotten a chance to watch a Rockets game I suggest you do, Alston is looking great right now.

Now am i saying they are a lock to win the NBA Finals, no. The West is very tough. The number 9 team in the West is better than the number 4 team in the East. Anyone of the 8 teams that make the playoffs in the West has a great chance to make a strong push for the Finals. Its not only going to be tough for the Rockets but for every team. Everybody wrote them off as soon as Yao went out, but guess what they are still winning and will continue to win.

I can wait till the Rockets play that tough 5 game schedule. Just imagine if they happened to sweep through all those teams keeping their winning streak alive. To me sweeping through them isnt whats going to determine if they are a good team or not. Its going to be one of two thigns. The first being, if they do happen to loose a game and have their winning streak snapped, how are they going to bounce back the next game. To me, the next time they loose, they will bounce back strong as if nothing happened and still compete at a high level. The second determination will be their win percentage during that 5 game streatch. Even if they happen to loose a game during tht time, if they can come away with a winning record, it will say alot about the team.

The Rockets may not reach the Finals, but T-Mac will win his first playoff series during his career; and the Rockets will definitely atleast contend for the championship.

Carmelo Anthony and Allen Iverson Lead the Nuggets to a Double Overtime Win Over the Rockets 112-111

In a struggle of a game that should have been an easy win for the Nuggets, it was instead an extremely difficult win and almost a loss. In double overtime, the Nuggets defeated the Houston Rockets 112-111. The Nuggets had the home court advantage. Also, the Rockets were playing on back to back nights, while the Nuggets were playing after an unusually long break of 3 nights off. And Houston was playing without their top scorer, Tracy McGrady. Finally, the Rockets just could not hit a lot of shots in this game. They ended up with a total of 40/102 made shots, or .402, which is generally not good enough to get a win or an overtime.

Smiling when things are bad is much better than getting upset. Carmelo Anthony is mostly a simple player who doesn't understand how, why, and to what extent some strategies, tactics, and coaches are better than others. But any great player who can, unlike most other players, smile at the darkest hour, when the bad stuff has accumulated to it's highest level, is a player I would want on my team more than somebody who gets all upset and starts pointing fingers and spreading blame around. We Nuggets fans are pitiful as we keep following an extremely talented team that logic, however, tells us can not possibly win in the playoffs. Maybe we should do what Carmelo Anthony does when times are tough: just smile and think about how, win or lose, slump or no slump, we really are one of the very best teams in basketball. Smiling enough will make us just about as happy as we would be if we won our true fair share.

(9-9) Rockets' Yao Ejected, (6-10) Kings Win 107-99

Yao Ming fouled out with 3:01 left, fouling a driving Beno Udrih. He kept talking to a referee to get a technical, then lost his cool and got ejected. One of the Kings' announcers got a text message from a viewer in China and said that they couldn't believe he got ejected, and the place he was at turned the TV off. Not something you'd expect from a guy who scored the first 9 points for the Rockets.

Rick Aldelman returned to Sacramento as a head coach for the first time in over a year. Both teams just came off of to the Golden State Warriors. Yao was unstoppable for the first few minutes of the game scoring the teams' 16/29 points in the 1st
quarter, but Ron Artest kept the Kings in the game early with 2 early fast breaks dunks and 11 points in the quarter. Mike James lit up the 2nd quarter early with 7 points. The Kings were still in it with Artest and John Salmons leading the way scoring 14/23 points in the 2nd quarter points. The Kings did a good job with Artest containing Tracy McGrady, only scoring 12 points. Kevin Martin was also quiet with 5 points, but that would change into the second half 49-50.

In the 3rd quarter, Martin and McGrady got hot switching shot after shot. Martin scored 14 points while McGrady had 15 points. Leading into the 4th quarter 79-74, Beno Udrih started to get into the late action, finishing with 15 points, and 5 rebounds and assists each. Kevin Martin finished with a team high 26 points and 4 rebounds. Ron Artest, who guarded McGrady most of the way also finished with 26 points and 6 rebounds Kings rookie center Spencer Hawes had his biggest assignment yet guarding Yao. Although his offensive game was off with 2 points, he had a defensive breakout game with a career high 10 rebounds, 5 of them offensive, and 2 blocked shots. What was impressive about those rebounds is that they were in traffic under the rim. Rockets' rookie forward Luis scola only had 4 rebounds.

Yao wasn't finished though, he finished with 29 points, including all 13 free throws, and a game high 11 rebounds. However with 3:01 left, that's when Yao fouled out and all of Arco erupted. Yao also erupted, getting ejected. I've never seen Yao get ejected before in an NBA game or any game with a technical, so it might be a first. T-Mac was taking on the game like he usually does in the 4th quarter, but with 31 seconds left, coach Rick Aldelman threw up the white flag. T-Mac finished with 40 points and 5 rebounds and assists each (hooray for my fantasy team). The final score, 107-99.

The Kings' last game against the Warriors had 20 turnovers. This game, they only had 5. Mikki Moore didn't produce much this game, but he guarded Yao early on. Even though he had 4 points and 2 boards, having his defensive presence and his effort in the game added some pressure to the Rockets. Brad Miller had 12 points and 7 rebounds and John Salmons had 13 points and 4 rebounds and assists each. Both were big contributions in keeping the Kings in this game.

Rick Aldelman and the Rockets tried to take Miller out of the game early, putting him on smaller players when he was on offense like Chuck Hayes and Shane Battier. Battier was locked down, only scoring 4 points and 4 rebounds, but had a game high 3 blocked shots on the night. Rafer Alston, A.K.A. Skip to my Lou, had only 5 points but had a game high 8 assists. It was a meaningful return to Arco Arena for Bonzi Wells. He returned to Arco for the first time with coach Aldelman, who he played under in Sacramento in 2005-06. Wells finished with 8 points and 10 rebounds. The Rockets fall to 0.500.

The Kings had another great home game establishing Arco not as a road team's worst nightmare (that belongs to the Spurs (9-0) and Celtics (8-0) home records), but early on they're in the top 10 terms of home records. So if you're skeptikal of watching a Kings game, watch them play at home. Their 3 losses have been within 2 points with the Cavs and Suns and 7 points with the Warriors. All of their wins have been within 8 points, except with the Spurs who they beat by 13 points. Their 2 game homestand continues on Tuesday against the Jazz and ends on Friday against the Clippers on Friday on Throwback Night, which I'm still planning to attend. The Kings keep rolling at home.

The Nuggets are Crushed by the Rockets 109-81 and Are Now Under an Orange Alert

The threat level to the Nugget's season rose from Yellow Alert to Orange Alert last night when Kenyon Martin seriously aggravated one of his rehabbed knees.
