Muppet Thoughts

The minor league season is over and the Arizona Fall League has yet to begin. Baseball America has begun their League Top 20 lists but they haven’t hit anywhere where the A’s have qualifying individuals. Winter ball is months away (although today it seems as if winter itself is close at hand) and the A’s are being their typical tight-lipped selves regarding the goings on in Instructs. As most of you settle in for a long day of college pigskin with a desert of Astros baseball, here are some tasty treats to keep you satiated before Brian Moehler takes the mound:

By far the most interesting of the links, Richard Justice's run down of Astros notes provides two juicy morsles to consider as we head into the hot stove season:

Odds & Ends: Castillo, Wagner, Pitching

Some links to look through on the day Eric Munson returns to the big leagues...

Joel Sherman of The NY Post wonders if a Luis Castillo for Jeremy Bonderman or Nate Robertson deal makes sense. Placido Polanco will be a free agent after the season, and both pitchers are expendable to Detroit. Castillo is owed $12MM over the next two years, while Bonderman and Robertson will take in $12.5MM and $10MM, respectively, in the final season of their contracts next year.

Brewers CF for the first 25 games

Looking at who will make the final spots of the Milwaukee Brewers 25-man roster, someone has to play Center Field while Mike Cameron is suspended. There are a variety of options including Gabe Gross, Tony Gwynn Jr., Joe Dillon, and Gabe Kapler.

Astros get pranked called at hotel

Well I guess they will learn not to register under their real names anymore, not sure why they did in the first place, I would assume it is common practice to register under an alias.

"About 10 hours before he was scheduled to start against the Chicago Cubs, Rodriguez received a message from a man claiming to be a representative of the Astros' organization.
"You have been sent down. Your ERA is too high," Rodriguez remembers the man saying. "Sorry, Wandy. Sorry, Wa...
