Top things that happened last time the Knicks won a playoff series

The Knicks won a playoff series for the first time since 2000
After the New York Knicks won against the gritty Boston Celtics last night, it marked their first return to the NBA’s second round since Y2K. Which nearly didn’t happen thanks to a historic 20-0 run during the middle of the fourth quarter that saw the Knicks 26 point lead evaporate to four. But who cares right? Imagine being a Knicks fan and seeing the last 13 years unfold. It started with Jeff Van Gundy resigning after a 10-9 start and only got worse. The last 13 years saw a slew of head coaches, the Isiah Thomas catastrophe, Eddy Curry debacle, Stephon Marbury, Larry Brown, Linsanity, Mike D’Antoni, Jerome James, Steve Francis, Zach Randolph, Allan Houston’s contract, missing out on LeBron James, two first round playoff exits and nearly becoming the first team to blow a 3-0 playoff series lead. Did I miss anything?
It’s safe to say, it’s been a rough 21st century for the Knicks faithful. Failing to advance to the NBA’s second round

Was the Stoudemire Contract the Worst in Knicks History?

By, Charles Trimble III - Knickswag Contributor
With the recent news of Amar’e Stoudemire’s being out for the remainder of the regular season with yet another surgical procedure to his knee, it got me thinking. Is STAT’s contract the worse contract in the history of the franchise? Let’s take a look back at some of the worse and you decide.
Amar’e Stoudemire, 5yrs, 99.7M
Most folks allude to the fact that Stoudemire was the first big ticket FA to sign with New York, but what choice did he really have? Looking back, no other team besides the Knicks dared to offer him more than 3-year guaranteed. It wasn’t courageous on his part to take the money it was smart! Amar’e has been a good soldier and said all the right things, but he hasn’t been able to stay on the court. Sad to say this but his most memorable moments as a Knick has been injuring his back during game 2 of warm ups against Boston in 2011, punching a fire extinguisher in disgust after a game 2 playoff loss to the Heat in 2012...

Ish Smith Throws Down Dunk Of His Life, Airballs Ensuing Free Throw (VIDEO)

Ish (short for Ishmael) Smith, a six-foot point guard out of Wake Forest, doesn’t get to play very much. In three NBA seasons Ish has appeared in just 89 games for a total of 892 minutes. Basically, it’s taken him three seasons to play a single season’s worth of third-string point guard for the Rockets, Grizzlies, Warriors, and Magic. While I’m sure he’s happy to be a player in the world’s premier basketball league, I’m also sure Ish would prefer to see the floor a little more frequently. For the most part, basketball players like to play basketball (I’m talking to you, Jerome James).
Lately, Smith has been getting sparing but regular burn for the Magic. He’s been forced into the rotation due to an elbow injury to regular backup point guard Etwaun Moore, who got hurt seven games ago. In a loss to the Raptors on December 28th, Ish recorded a season-high 13 points — one more than the 12 he’d scored over the season’s first 29 games. While he didn’t quite reach 13 against t

James Dolan meets with Isiah Thomas

In the wake of MSG sports president, Scott O’Neils resignation, New York Knicks owner, James Dolan meets with former Knicks coach/president,Isiah Thomas.
Isiah has been lobbying with the Knicks organization since being let go by the Florida International basketball coach last spring. It’s been reported that O’Neil was opposed to Thomas re-joining the Knicks in any form, but with O’Neil out of the way, it’s possible that the hall of famer (Thomas) and the New York Knickerbockers could reunite.
Although, I’m sure this comes as a rather head-scratching proposition to Knicks’ fans being that Isiah was running the show during a chaotic period of time, spanning between 2003-2008.
Remember, Isiah allegedly instigated “thugs” off his bench to incite a little old school Detroit Pistons play against the Denver Nuggets, which turned into a brawl, and resulted in the weakest punch ever thrown by former Nuggets’ star and current Knicks small forward, Carmelo Anthony.
Thomas also killed the Knick

Free-agent horrors a recurring theme in NBA

It's difficult to navigate the shell-shocked territory of another NBA player-acquisition period without thinking about Jon Koncak, the patron saint of free agents.

Koncak, a 7-foot center riding the reward-worthy crest of a season that featured robust averages of 5 points and 6 rebounds, was granted his big deal to remain employed by the Atlanta Hawks. The damage was 13 million spread across six seasons.

That would be considered roughin' it by today's standards. But Koncak's bonanza arrived in 1989, putting his per-year take in a neighbor similar to what the Chicago Bulls were paying Michael Jordan. Lakers superstar Magic Johnson was in the midst of a 25-year contract that would surrender a total of 25 million Jerry Buss dollars.

Fortunately for MJ and Magic, endorsement opportunities provided a more cozy lifestyle than the Hawks had given Koncak.

But let's check back in with today's NBA. This week's biggest news is being created by the Brooklyn Nets, who are attempting to crea

Game #8-253: Florida A&M Rattlers at Akron ZipsDecember 17, 2011 4:00 pmJames A. Rhodes ArenaBBState Stats/RecapAs I began to prepare to research Akrons opponent, the Florida A&M Rattlers of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference, I thought about what I already knew about this university located in Tallahassee, Florida. I had recently heard about a terrible and deadly hazing incident that happened to a band member there and I also remembered that ESPNs College Gameday made an appearance on campus back in 2008, their first venture into the Division I-AA (or FCS, whatever it is now) world. That was pretty much it. I found out that Florida A&M is one of 150 Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) in the United States. Famous alumni include Baseball Hall-of-Famer Andre Dawson, Fox NFL sideline reporter Pam Oliver and NBA player Jerome James. Thank you, Wikipedia! During pregame, I noticed a couple of odd things. First of all, the Zips were wearing grey jerseys. I...

There is a ridiculous amount of money that get tossed at professional basketball athletes and what makes it worse when the athlete significantly underperforms in relation to his enormous contract. The recent signing of Tyson Chandler for 4 years for $60 million dollars by the New York Knicks is a clear example of an organization overpaying for a player who will have some defensive impact, but still has limited offensive skills.
He is being paid on the level of a major superstar like Kobe Bryant or LeBron James, but will have far less impact. There is a fairly long list of big men who have played much smaller than the size of their salary. The top 5 most overpaid centers of all time are Tyson Chandler, Erick Dampier, Jerome James, Jim McIlvaine, and Greg Oden.

Glen Davis is in shape and wanted by several teams, according to report

Glen Davis can put aside his hopes of winning the Shawn Kemp Award, given after each NBA lockout to the player who gains the most weight and ruins what could have been a promising career (an award description that, sadly, excludes Jerome James from the running, since James’ career lost its promise quite some time ago). But Davis has a nice consolation prize: he’s reportedly in good shape and wanted in free agency by several teams. (Yahoo! Sports)Boston Celtics free-agent forward Glen Davis appears to be in good shape after working out at the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla., the past two months. In addition to the Celtics, Davis has drawn interest from New Jersey, Portland, Atlanta, Orlando and Philadelphia, sources said.Davis is good friends with Magic center Dwight Howard, dating back to their AAU days. The Celtics have spoken to Davis’ representatives, Danny Ainge said on Thursday, but they’ll still need to make a decision on whether to keep their undersized (yet oversized) power f...
