Warriors’ Playoff Success Opens Door For Dwight Howard Signing in Free Agency

It was not too long ago that Dwight Howard turned down the thought of playing for the lowly Golden State Warriors. It was also not long ago that Howard received an elbow in the face from Warriors forward David Lee, and responding with “I will remember.”
Howard is now reportedly remembering the Warriors’ surprising surge through the first round of the Western Conference playoffs and taking the San Antonio Spurs to six games in the second round.
According to the Los Angeles Daily News’ Mark Medina, Howard is reportedly considering the Warriors in free agency this offseason, to go along with the Lakers, Hawks, Rockets and Mavericks.
It is a far cry from the NBA depths Golden State once found itself in, where no high-profile player wanted to test the historically inept franchise. Young and talented players with bright futures, an impressive playoff run and a state-of-the-art arena in the works certainly changes all of that.
The Warriors will likely be large players in free agency this o...

David Lee was unexpectedly able to return from a hip injury and rejoin the Golden State Warriors as they continue their playoff run. However, Lee told Scott Howard-Cooper of NBA.com that he expects the injury to ultimately cause him to require surgery following the season.David Lee said surgery "more than likely" for torn hip muscle after the season. But sajd he plans to keep playing. Eight mins on Sunday.— Scott Howard-Cooper (@SHowardCooper) May 12, 2013 Lee said he felt noticeably stronger in G4 than G3.
Warriors’ David Lee Says He’ll Need Hip Surgery After The Playoffs

Golden State Warriors center David Lee has provided the team an unlikely spark by returning to the playoffs after we all thought his season was over after tearing a hip muscle in the first round against the Nuggets.
Lee played nearly 8 minutes in the overtime win over the Spurs, and has given the Warriors some emotional spark. Lee is not the same player following the hip flexor injury and told NBA.com that he’ll most likely have surgery in the off-season.

At some point Lee should be shut down. Short of a few rebounds and some emotional energy, David Lee can’t really offer the Warriors much of anything.

.wmh6{position:absolute;clip:rect(440px,auto,auto,409px);}look at this David Lee has been a bright spot for the Warriors this post-season, despite suffering what should have been a season-ending injury during the first game of the 1st round of the 2013 NBA playoffs. Lee suffered a torn hip flexor against the Denver Nuggets during game one of round one, and missed most of the series against the 3rd seeded Nuggets, a series in which the Warriors pulled off the upset and advanced to the second round to meet the San Antonio Spurs. Against all odds, Lee was back and available for game 6 against the Nuggets, only notching 1 rebound in one minute, but the Warriors won by a score of 92-88 and advanced, despite being down of of their best players for most of the round. Lee suited up and played again in game 3 versus the Spurs, logging a very effective 3 minutes of play, scoring 5 points and grabbing 2 rebounds.
Are the Warriors more dangerous without David Lee?

When forward David Lee suffered his hip injury during Game 1 of the team's opening-round series, many thought it spelled doom for the Golden State Warriors' chances of advancing deep into the postseason. But despite Lee's absence, Golden State continues to shine behind excellent performances from shooting guard Stephen Curry. With this being the case, Tim Kawakami of The Mercury News makes the argument that the Warriors are actually a more dangerous team without Lee.Before making his case, Kawakami clarifies that Lee was imperative in helping the Warriors win 47 games and obtain the seed they did in the playoffs. He was a huge part of the team that was without Andrew Bogut and included multiple young players for most of the season. But, as the Warriors stand even at 1-1 with the San Antonio Spurs in the second round of the playoffs, Kawakami says that "there just isn't much doubt" that Lee's injury hasn't hurt them. The ailment has actually freed Golden State to be more of

David Lee will be active for Spurs' series

The Golden State Warriors will have forward David Lee active for their second-round series against the San Antonio Spurs. Still, this doesn't mean he'll be able to play a significant role, as he told reporters -- including Kyle Bonagura of CSN Bay Area -- that "we'll have to see how it progresses.""I'll be in uniform, but we'll just have to see how it progresses and maybe actually play a couple minutes," Lee said.Lee surprised everyone when he returned for the Warriors' Game 6 contest against the Denver Nuggets. He had torn his hip flexor during the first game of the series, leading many to believe he was finished for the remainder of the season. While Lee was able to return, he only saw the court for a little over a minute. It's still to be determined if he'll be able to log meaningful time against the Spurs. The swelling in his hip has subsided for the most part, but he still doesn't have much power to push off his right leg. Bonagura notes that Lee&#3

Could David Lee return for Warriors against Spurs?

Let's get this straight right up top. The Golden State Warriors are not expecting to have All-Star forward David Lee back for their second-round series against the San Antonio Spurs.

"There are no expectations about David's role moving forward," coach Mark Jackson told the Oakland Tribune.

With that all said, there is a chance.

"It depends on how he's feeling and what the doctors and training staff and everybody else says about it," Jackson said. "But he's excited about it, and if he's healthy, and he can give us something, I will certainly utilize those minutes properly."

Lee tore a hip flexor in Game 1 of the Warriors first-round series and was initially expected to miss the entire playoffs. Jackson put him in the game for less than two minutes on Thursday, but that was only in an inspirational role.

Lee could return for Spurs series?

David Lee, much to the surprise of everybody, returned to action Thursday night in the Warriors’ series-clinching Game 6 win over the Nuggets. It was more of a morale-booster for the team and the crowd rather than a contributing appearance, as he saw just a minute and a half of game action. But it begged a legitimate question: Is David Lee much closer than we all thought to return to serious action? We all were told the all-star was done for the playoffs after tearing a hip flexor in Game 1. Even if ostensibly, Lee’s cameo Thursday night was promising after seeing him run and get active on the boards without any apparent hindrance. And, via Carl Steward, here’s Mark Jackson with an update on Lee’s status for the second round against the Spurs: “It depends on how he’s feeling and what the doctors and training staff and everybody else says about it,” Jackson said. “But he’s excited about it, and if he’s healthy, and he can give us something, I will certainly utiliz...

Warriors' David Lee returns from hip injury

In a shocking turn of events, Golden State Warriors forward David Lee dressed for last night's Game 6 against the Denver Nuggets. Lee -- who had reportedly been shut down for the season with a torn hip flexor -- saw one minute of action, as the Warriors eliminated the Nuggets and advanced to the second round of the playoffs.Lee didn't participate in pregame warmups, but then he sprinted out of the tunnel behind guard Stephen Curry roughly 15 minutes before tipoff. Lee entered the game with just over two minutes remaining in the first quarter, grabbing one rebound and missing a shot during his minute of action. The Warriors had seemed as if they expected Lee to miss the remainder of the playoffs after he was diagnosed with a torn right hip flexor. He suffered the injury during the series opener when he was fouled by JaVale McGee. After the contact, Lee went to the floor, landing on his hip. He made two free throws before exiting, and that was the last time he saw the court until last night. If Lee is

David Lee Activated for Warriors in Game 6 Less Than Two Weeks After Tearing Hip Flexor

Warriors big man David Lee was thought to be lost for the season when he tore his hip flexor in Game 1 of Golden State’s first-round series against Denver. As it turns out, that rehab lasted all of 12 days.
Lee was back on the court in Oakland for Game 6 on Thursday as the Warriors attempted to complete the biggest upset of the NBA playoff so far by closing out the No. 3 Nuggets at home.
Golden State was left for dead by many after Lee went on the shelf during a Game 1 loss, but Stephen Curry has kept the Warriors afloat by shooting the lights out, averaging nearly a double-double (24.8 points, 9.6 assists per game) in the series.
It remains to be seen how effective Lee will be in his return, but his miraculous recovery already has the Twitter-sphere buzzing with comparisons to Bulls guard Derrick Rose. Rose, who tore his ACL during last year’s playoffs, has yet to play a minute this season for Chicago despite being medically cleared in March.

Well, this is the playoffs. And David Lee is apparently full aware. Defying all odds, and knowing that his Golden State Warriors are in the middle of a heated series with the Denver Nuggets, he has been cleared to play and could play a few minutes tonight.

This is unbelievable. It was assumed that David Lee would have been out for the rest of the postseason, and understandably so. Tearing your hip is a pretty painful thing, and to return less than 2 weeks later is unbelievable.

Report: Lee out for the playoffs

David Lee was able to shoot his free throws after the foul, but as soon as he tried to run back on defense, you can see there was a serious problem. Originally, it was diagnosed as a strained hip muscle, but you didn’t have to be a doctor to see it was a lot worse than that. This is a big blow to the Warriors who played the Nuggets tough in Game 1, but now will be very shorthanded for the rest of the series. David Lee tore his right hip flexor on Saturday and is done for the season, league source says. He had an MRI today. — Ken Berger (@KBergCBS) April 21, 2013
