Trading Day

Since the beginning of the season, July 31 and the trade deadline loomed as a key date for the Pirates. With their early run at .500 , there was some unrealistic noise about keeping the team together and making a run at snapping 15 consecutive losing seasons. However, that talk rightfully faded as the summer [...]

Deal Imminent for Pirates' Nady

Pirates OF Xavier Nady was pulled in the second inning of tonights game and, according to multiple sources, a deal is imminent. With so many teams interested, it's hard to say at this point who the deal is with. For what it's worth, Rotoworld.com speculates that it could be the Rays seeing as how minor league SS Reid Brignac is also sitting out tonight. Definitely more to come on this tonight.

Update: Foxsports' Ken Rosenthal is reporting that the deal is with the Yankees and includes Damsaso Marte. the Pirates will receive fur minor leaguers-Triple A RHP Ross Ohlendorf, Double AA RHP Phil Coke, George Contos and OF Jose Tabata. Rosenthal says a deal for Jarrod Washburn is also near and that the Mariners have asked him to waive his no-trade rights.

YANKS X OUT METS PLAN !

What a slap in the face ! Yanks made a trade today sending four minor league prospects to the pirates for Xavier Nady & Damaso Marte . The Steinbrener camp knows what their doing , Sending a message of WAR cross town . They knew the Mets were extremely intrested in Xavier Nady . We all know Steinbrener cant stand to be # 2 in N.Y.
Anyhow this trade does in fact give the Yanks depth and direction heading into the post season excellent move , Yet very sneaky in my opinion , Bravo !

Yankees Land Nady and Marte

The Yankees front office is showing confidence in a team that has won six games in a row and have gone out and made a splash trading for Xavier Nady and Damaso Marte according to SI.com.

Just three games back in the AL East and the Wild Card the Yankees have decided they are going for it and have traded relief pitcher Ross Ohlendorf, minor league slugging prospect Jose Tabata, double-A pitchers Phil Coke and George Kontos.

Nady has a .330 batting average, .919 OPS, and has 13 homers and 57 RBI's this season. He will likely be inserted in the Yankees lineup as the everyday left fielder for now. Once Johnny Damon fully mends his shoulder he may get starts as the DH a few games a week.

Marte is 4-0 this season with a 3.47 ERA. His 1.16 WHIP and .217 batting average against are very impressive. He becomes the lefty reliever the Yankees have lacked for years, although Marte actually fares better against righties.

Marte is in the second year of a two year contract. He also has a club option for $6 million, which the Yankees will likely pick up. Nady is a free agent at the end of this season. He is playing on a one-year $3.35 million contract.

Ohlendorf is the only player the Yankees sent to Pittsburgh with any major league experience. Appearing primarily in long relief this season he had a 1-1 record with a 6.53 ERA, a 1.73 WHIP, and a .299 BAA. He was sent down at the end of June and worked as a starter in Scranton. In five starts at triple-A he had a 4.03 ERA and a .301 BAA.

Yankees / Pirates strike a deal

Rumors out Pittsburgh are that the New York Yankees and Pittsburgh Pirates have struck a deal. The rumors began before tonight's Pirates game but picked up steam when Xavier Nady was pulled after the first inning. The deal calls for Nady and Damaso Marte to join the Yankees. In return, NY sends stud hitting prospect Jose Tabata, Ross Ohlendorf , Phil Coke, George Kontos. As always, this deal is pending a physical.

Nady, Marte Traded

The Pittsburgh Pirates have reportedly traded Xavier Nady and Damaso Marte to the New York Yankees for pitcher Ross Ohlendorf top outfield prospect Jose Tebata, pitching prospect Phil Coke and pitching prospect George Kontos.

I am a little bit sad to see Jose Tebata go but he is surrounded by trouble. He always gets into it and often times does not play to his potential. Scouts have said about Tebata sometimes he plays so lazy and sometimes he plays great and is getting to every ball.

This was a great deal for the Yankees. Ross Ohlendorf does not mean anything to me. All he did was give the other team runs and does not pitch to his potential.

The other two players involved have yet to see any major league action but the stats they had in the minor leagues were not to flattering.

This is a huge deal and what they gave i can not wait to find out. Today Xavier Nady started for the Pirates and was removed in the first inning. Damaso Marte was seen hugging his teammates in the locker room.

This is huge for the Yankees, how big for the pirates we will find out what they gave up probably tonight. If in fact it is the Yankees it will give them two things they were looking for a good hitting corner outfielder and a reliever.

This deal shocked me, to tell you the truth i thought the Yankees would back out of Nady but the Pirates later said that the original asking price for Nady was not so high any more and thats where the Yankees jumped on it.

Incredible, a word to describe the trade. This should if its minor leaguers we gave up be a great deal that will propell the Yankees over the top and help them win the AL East.

You heard it here first at

Quick Hits: Uribe/Cora, Pirates(not the Pittsburgh kind) Washburn

-The Uribe-Cora deal between the White Sox and Red Sox is off. The Boston Globe is reporting that the Red Sox are the ones who backed off but other news sources are saying the White Sox needed "something else" to fall into place for this deal to work.
-To whomever is pirating this website, you have done great harm here. Be gone.
-The Jarrod Washburn talks continue between the Yanks and the Mariners. The Yankees want to include Kei Igawa in the deal and Seattle is hesitating. The Newark Star-Ledger is reporting that the Yankees might be willing to part with Melky Carbrera, Brett Gardner or Justin Christian.
-While very interested in Xavier Nady, the Rays are unwilling to pay the Pirates high price and have turned their attention to the Indians Casey Blake.

Quick Hits: What We Missed Today

*Who, among the Pirates is untouchable going into the deadline? It doesn't seem like anyone. While OF Xavier Nady and reliever Damasco Marte are the big names being dangled, their price tags may be too high for most teams to pay. However, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette is reporting that SS Jack Wilson, OF, Jason Bay and returning pitcher John Grabow are also drawing interest.
*Mets Manager Jerry Manuel said yesterday that he expects the Mets to make a move for a big bat. While Matt Holliday, Xavier Nady and Jason Bay may top their list, they are also lloking at Raul Ibanez and Casey Blake.
*There were more than a dozen scouts at Friday night's game against Tampa Bay, in which AJ Burnett was pitching but GM J.P. Riccardi says he doesn't think there will be a deal for him because of his opt-out clause. He would draw too high a price for a short-term rental to most teams. However, let it be noted that the Yankees had scouts there and they never shy away from overpaying.

Rumor: Pirates' Nady; Dodgers' Kemp on Phillies' list

FoxSports senior baseball writer Ken Rosenthal is reporting that in addition to Colorado's Matt Holliday, the Phillies have inquired about right-handed hitting outfielders Xavier Nady and Matt Kemp. Beerleaguer: These are two of the National League's top five leaders in batting average on balls in play (BABIP), which measures the number of batted balls that fall safely for a hit, not including home runs. That's normally a red flag suggesting luck is involved, but the fact, is either one of...

One Big Bat = One Big Run, Yet Again....

New York, New York. What will they think of next. Hey folks Matt Eisenman here and im about to talk about the New York Yankees. I know some Boston Red Sox fan will probably say something and i dont blame them I would get tired of it too. Here it goes. The Yankees need one big bat to help them get one big run, hense the name of the article. What Big Bat do they need, or should i say who do they need because it cetaintly isnt a Louiville Slugger they could trade a player for ten of those. Xavier Nady the big name on the block from the Artist formally known as the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Well the question who do they have to give up to get a player who is making a great name for himself. The bigger question who do they have to give up?

Frankly I am tired of giving up young talent but who would they want. Give them Ian Kennedy Johnny Damon and someone else crappy. What ever we have to do to get it done that doesnt include giving away a young star. Another person they should consider is Mark Texeira. He is young has better mobility than Giambi and would be a good fit at first base and fill the bat void. He would be a good fit. To think the San Francisco Giants were thinking of trading Tim Lincecum for Matsui at the beginning of the season I don't think so anymore.

Lets get this straight as a Yankee fan I am not going to settle for Richie Sexson. The man just can't hit anything anymore. If he is supposed to solve are problem Cashman has gone more insane than ever before.

What to do, what to do?

I really couldn't tell you. I'd rather trade younger for younger. I don't like veterans all the time they are so boring. What I think we should do is trade Bobby Abreu away. We will lose him to free agency after the year because we won't want him back so why not get some value from him. All I am saying in a very unclear way is the Yankees could be one big bat away from making yet another impresive run to make the playoffs.

They have options Jason Bay, Xavier Nady, Mark Texeira, heck even Barry Bonds wouldn't hurt. Something is going to happen and it will happen soon when nobody sees it coming. They will end up trading young talent away for a 35 year old pitcher.

That Brian Fuentes stuff should just stop. Quit it, the man is 32 and not getting any younger. For a reliever that is old and they don't have alot of baseball life left in them. Please anyone wishing to inquire a Brian Fuentes or Damaso Marte if thats even his name should look in the mirror and be like what am i doing. Fuentes ill give him credit he is doing great but not worth a young player who has a chance to give you more and be there for a longer time.

I really do not know what is going to happen. I think it will get real interesting by the last day and very shortely. If Ray Durham is the last big thing ill be shocked. The Yankees have alot of chips to play with they just don't know how much to put in. Let's not go all in for once lets only bet 1/4 of the pile. Come on Hank it hasn't worked in a while. Just focus on free agency and stop trying to give away more than you should for someone who might be a rental. Save your money for a C.C. Sabathia or a Ben Sheets for next season much more worth it and a better investment.

What do you think the Yankees should do?
