Game Preview #14: San Antonio Spurs @ Houston Rockets

Damn, this team is deep.
After the nasty 4-6 start to the season, the Spurs have gone on a 3-game winning streak. In the last game, we beat an exhausted, overworked Warriors team that was on a SEGABABA. Big frickin' deal. The only "good" team we beat during our little win streak was Milwaukee, and that's a very liberal usage of the word "good". Tonight, the task gets a bit tougher - beat an angry Rockets team in their arena.

Rockets guard does Adidas commercial shoot with Houston Dynamo player -- Kyle Lowry is in full offseason swing.

The Houston Rockets point guard recently did an Adidas commercial shoot on the basketball courts just outside the Toyota Center along with Houston Dynamo midfielder Stuart Holden.

In this behind-the-scenes video, Lowry and Holden freestyle a bit, mixing hoops with some soccer. It's certainly nice to see Lowry throw down a couple of unique alleyoops, but I was more shocked to...

Popovich rips into Pau Gasol trade

"What they did in Memphis is beyond comprehension. There should be a trade committee that can scratch all trades that make no sense. I just wish I had been on a trade committee that oversees NBA trades. I'd like to elect myself to that committee. I would have voted no to the L.A. trade."

As a Grizzlies fan, I was hoping management would move Gasol and build for the future around a strong, young nucleus (Rudy Gay, Mike Conley, Kyle Lowry). But I didn't think for a minute t...

What We Know About Chris Paul...CP3 4 NBA All-Star Starter 2008

What do we know about Chris Paul? Well, judging by the game between the Grizzlies and the Hornets last night, Chris Paul is a superstar and Pau Gasol is a chump. Here's why:

SideBar: My Campaign for Chris Paul, Western Conference All-Star Starter -- I don't care who you put with him, Kobe...Steve Nash....Baron Davis.....Deron Williams, just put them with Chris Paul.

CP3 - New Orleans - 2008 - It's only right.

Oh yea, back to the WHY....

Juan Carlos Navarro: Ties NBA rookie record for trey's in a game

November 16, 2007 (New Orleans at Memphis)

Juan Carlos Navarro, 27, the 6-foot-3 rookie guard out of S.F. Llobregat, Barcelona, Spain, is finally paying dividends for the Memphis Grizzlies who conveyed a future first-round selection this year to the Washington Wizards in order to get the rights to sign Navarro.

Despite a heart breaking loss in overtime to the visiting Memphis Grizzlies (120-118 OT), Navarro played his finest game as a member of the Grizzlies, finishing with "a career-high 28 points, going 8-of-9 from 3-point range, part of Memphis' 15-of-24 shooting outside the arc. Navarro tied the rookie record for 3s set by Jason Kidd in 1995 and Chris Duhon in 2005."

The Associated Press added:

"Navarro connected on his first seven shots from the field, the first five from 3-point range to kick-start the Memphis offense."

"I'm happy for my game, for my feeling, but if we lose, it doesn't matter,'' Navarro said. "The rim was very big for me. Some days it's very big; some days it's small.''

Superb shooting by Juan Carlos Navarro! Now all he has to do is prove to Grizzlies Head Coach Marc Iavaroni that he is worthy of more playing time.

However, I think that Villanova's Kyle Lowry, who is more athletic, seems to have the inside track among the Grizzlies glut at the point guard position (Damon Stoudamire, Lowry, and Navarro).

Mike Conley and Ricky Davis updates

So, Mike Conley got outplayed by a BOC Kyle Lowery last night. Not sure what it all means, but on our Mock Draft Roundup Conley is going at about 93, while on Yahoo, he's down at 126. I guess if there's a question mark, then the 126 number is more accurate. And shows what us "experts" know?

And also, Ricky Davis is going to the Heat. Here's my post in the FantasyBasketball.com forums:

I'd say he's more valuable now. As TheBurningRed said, he's pretty much guaranteed the starting spot (I'm assuming he'll start at SF since Walker was part of the trade, and James Posey is gone).

Penny Hardaway is too old and banged up to play more than a handful of minutes at SG or SF. Dorell Wright is the other option for the Heat, but they always seem reluctant to give him the PT, so I think the majority of minutes will go to Davis. And when Wright is playing, they could slide Davis to SG and give Wade some rest.

I'm not a big Ricky Davis fan or anything, and I still wouldn't be drafting him, but I do think he's worth more on the Heat (without Walker) than he was on the Wolves. Not a lot more? but a little more.

Davis is going about 59 on Yahoo and our Mock Draft Roundup? If you want to draft him, you can probably take him around there and feel good about your potential for ROI from him.

Pre Season has begun

My time in Malaga was pretty cool. It was tough at first adjusting to the different foods that we had there. My first couple of days i violated my diet by walking to mcdonalds and burgerking! I had to eat something lol. The hotel was nice, but the elevators could only fit like 5 people at a time. I hate elevators and i wasnt rushing to cram into the ones at our hotel. When i got to my room it took me about 5 minutes to realize how to turn the electricity on. You had to put ur key into this slot at the door in order for the lights to work. Thats alot different then what im used to, but a good way to save electricity. We didnt have that many channels so i had to miss alot of the football games this past weekend. I really couldnt believe USC lost to Stanford. Casey Jacobson would not keep his mouth shut about that one.

Yesterday we had our first pre season game and i had nerves running all through my body! It was different because of the hostile environment. I had never played over seas before and the fans love basketball. You could hear random whistles coming out of the stands and all of the different horns that people would play. I thought we werent mentally ready to play from the beginning of the game. But in the second half Kyle Lowry really stepped up when no one else was and helped get us back into the game. The other team made some tough plays down the stretch in order to beat us by a couple of points but i think it was a learning experience for both my teammates and I.

We are now in madrid preparing for our second game which is tomorrow so wish me luck and i will talk to yall soon.

Fantasy Team Preview: Memphis Grizzlies

Patrick and I have decided to go from Worst to First with our fantasy team previews, so I'll be kicking things off with the phantasmagorical Memphis Grizzles.

Pau Gasol is a stud. He checked in at 21/19 on the Player Rater (the first number is with TO as a category, the second is without). That's based on averages so it doesn't take into account number of games played, but it's obvious that Gasol is a 2nd round pick.

More after the jump...
