Hoops Matinee: Sixers Pick On Someone (Closer To) Their Own Size in Detroit

After narrowly escaping with a win against the worst team in the East missing four of their top six players (though to be fair, the Celtics struggled with that same Nets squad last night--scrappy bunch, I guess), the Sixers have somehow managed to turn a relatively unimpressive start into a winning 3-2 record. Of course, it's hard to judge precisely where this team is at, since the only teams they've played thusfar have been the best (Orlando, Boston), and the worst (Milwaukee, New Y...

Philadelphia 76ers ‘09-10 NBA season preview

Last year we debuted the “Highs and Lows” system — previewing the NBA season by predicting the respective ceiling and basement for each team. Same theme, different season…
Added: Jrue Holiday, Jason Kapono, Rodney Carney
Lost: Andre Miller, Reggie Evans, Donyell Marshall, Theo Ratliff, Kareem Rush
Ceiling: 5th seed, Eastern Conference
Without too much roster turnover, this is kind [...]

Sixers Take Game 1 on the Back of Marshall and Iguodala

Now that's how you flip the script and turn a 14% chance of winning on it's head.

I kept thinking to myself the Sixers MUST win this game. The game was played exactly as it should (more on this later) and the situation was perfect for a quick steal. If you can't beat Orlando when they shoot 5-18 from three and you shoot 7-12 things become a bit hopeless. Because of that it was imperative that the Sixers take advantage of this opportunity. And they did.
Analyzing Game 1

Posey, 31, is expected to get the full mid-level exception - starting
with $5.6 million in 2008-09 - for three years. Sources say the Cavs
might have to extend it out four years in order to land Posey. And,
therein lies the problem. Most teams don't want to give him a four-year

Cavs Show Signs of Life, Cool off Heat

The Cavaliers now have their complete roster intact (except for the injured Donyell Marshall) and for the first time this season they used the starting lineup that played so well down the stretch of the 2006-07 season and had a great playoff run that culminated in a trip to the NBA Finals. If injuries or other factors do not prevent the Cavaliers from using this starting lineup and player rotation for the rest of the season then they will be a much tougher out in the playoffs than most of the national media appears to think.

King James Uses Marshall Plan to Beat Nets

Great all around play by LeBron James (23 points, eight rebounds, eight assists) and timely three point shooting by Donyell Marshall (18 points, 6-10 from three point range) carried the Cleveland Cavaliers to an 88-72 Game Six victory over the New Jersey Nets. The win earned the Cavaliers a berth in the Eastern Conference Finals, where they will face the Detroit Pistons, who eliminated the Cavaliers from the 2006 playoffs in a hard fought seven game series. James struggled a bit with his shooting (8-20 from the field, 6-9 from the free throw line) but he set the tone early in the game and made several big plays down the stretch. Jason Kidd (19 points, 12 rebounds, eight assists) led the Nets in scoring, rebounds and assists and did not commit a single turnover; the only blemish on his stat line was 7-20 shooting from the field.
